I too have been trying my hand at this. Little luck so far. Trying to get on that AlienNave level. So far I've only been offered the Alienware m17x setup with the WideFHD screen, (1yr)Advanced warranty and the orion backpack for 1769 shipped. That's through EPP gonna try another rep tomorrow.

^^Haha, exactly what I felt over the phone. Tried putting it out of my mind.

I ended up pulling the trigger today. Total after the tax was $1767. Felt like my salesperson was getting a little impatient at the end of todays call, which I don't blame him for. I could be happier about the price, but I can deal with that.


Now I wait.....

 

I am going to be patient until I can get at least 20% off. Once it comes onto the Business Site, I should be able to get 20% or better.
So far, I am not getting a deal on the Home Site.
Also can't seem to get 30% at AAFES

I ordered an m17x last night. Tried three reps before anyone would give more than $50 off. Not the greatest deal from what I've seen but I can live with it. Tried calling back and getting 2720QM and 3 yr advanced warranty in exchange but was told I would have to cancel order and start over again. Don't want to do that. Emailed manager to see if he can help. Awaiting reply. Wrote this via iPhone.

That's the most I've seen so far on straight haggling. Does anyone know if the reps can generally offer larger discounts if you bundle in more items like 2 monitors and another laptop on top of this?

I would assume yes, but wasn't sure if those are part of a different category for them...

 

I asked the rep if he could throw in a free bag and he said he couldn't do offer discounts accesories unless they were a warranty =/. If you add another laptop, I am sure you can get quite the discount

 

I'm going to try and get them to refund me for shipping and tax, it isn't required to tax NY for a computer bought out of state so Ill see If i can get some cash back on that. But I think I got a pretty good deal overall

I called just the regular number, Asked to cancel, then go from there.. But don't talk to your rep, he isn't Allowed to give much of a discount, but the more deeper you go into the ranks, the better your chances are!

It has worked twice for me! My first setup I didn't want(they offered only $100 off) and then now my second one $200 off.. I am fine with what I am paying...

Its all on how you present yourself over the phone, you have to be confident... don't sound too energetic when talking to them...

Just tell them that your friends have gotten not only better setups, but less or equal to your current price.

BTW... what are your specs on your current R3 order? and what was your final price??

If you really want to cancel, if they wont let you cancel, then they are lying.. If they are persistent, then just tell them that you will let your bank know not to accept their charge. IDK really.. but like was said before, they cant let you NOT cancel your order as long as it hasn't been shipped..

thanks for replying, i called in 3 times. Each time passing me to many other departments. In every case, they said they would want to see someone's order number.

I said isn't that ridiculous and wouldn't that impede into that customer's privacy? They said even with an order number, they'll have to set a 3-way conference call to confirm that the right person's order number.

what BS.... i'm actually pretty pissed with their service.... even when i politely explained to them the situation... they continued to play ping pong passing me to departments that don't even know what's going on

I just called back and got the customer solutions department or something like that. I ended up getting $207.97 off after requesting return labels for the computer I had bought because I found other buyers who had gotten a better deal. At first he offered $100 and I said no you guys where getting more like $200 and better warranties. At first I was worried they were really going to cancel my order, but then they said it is about ready to ship.

I really wish when people posted their great bargains, they would also mention if they qualify for any additional bonuses. What do you figure is the baseline percentage, or raw dollar amount, someone who doesn't qualify for any special deals can get on average? Or Max?

 

Well me, myself... Not that I got some amazing hook up... But with no discounts for being "special" paid $1780 OTD. That had Free Next day shipping and "no taxes"(it did have taxes, I just had the rep work it to where it seemed like there were no taxes)

Hah! Talk about coincidence, you got the same raw dollar amount off that I did, though percentage wise you got a little more since mine also included a 2720QM, a 750gb hard drive, and 8 gigs of ram. Are you going to try to take advantage of the additional 135 dollar off deal that is going to end tomorrow morning? I am sorely tempted, though from what I understand, Dell will force you to cancel your order and force you to the back of the line and wait another 3 weeks...

 

Honestly though... If I were you, I would cancel the order anyways! You are may be spending for then $100-$200 more then you need to be spending on that RAM and HDD... I went bone stock as far as "easy upgrades" go... You can get 16GB of RAM on newegg for the price you pay for 8GB... Also goes for the HDD, you can prolly get 1.5TB for even less then one 750GB HDD from DELL(maybe.. lol I am actually not sure about that last part.. )!

My deal was a premature deal that is only available for my company of employment upcoming this Monday, but because I had orginally placed the order with the lower grade CPU at 1,600-1,500 dollars they called me today to warn me about the upcoming sale on monday and to remake the order on monday. Once I found out about the huge sale I then upgraded my CPU a notch and told them I wanted to keep it below 1,500 they then gave me a small 50 dollar coupon and waived the shipping and I was basically doing cart wheels in my home. Because they allowed me to do the Order now, nearly 5 days in Advance to keep my delay minimal from the previous order. The coupon code, discount, or whatever it is they're using over there applied and worked thus I got it, And I knew no one would belive me if I just posted it so I took a screenshot of my quote. I'll also update as I get new emails down the road, May couldn't come any sooner.

Actually I had considered that originally, however the upgrade from 4 to 8gigabytes was 90 dollars and the upgrade from 320gb to 750gb was 100 dollars.

Decent quality ram on NewEgg is around 90 dollars for 8 gigabytes, and a Seagate/Western Digital 750 gigabyte hard drive is also 100 dollars. True if I ordered bare minimum I would have a leftover 4 gigs of ram and a 320 gigabyte hard drive, but I don't have any use for them so I just added it to my alienware order.

However, now that I notice the sale has 6 gigabytes of ram (im assuming 1 4gig and 1 gig stick), I can buy a single stick of 4 gig ram for 40+ and get 8 gigs that way. The downside is trying to match the exact same ram the Alienware ships with. I was always under the impression its best to buy matching ram from the same manufacturer and serial number.
