Also, I learned that it's like 350 a year to add on CompleteCare warranty if you do it year by year, food for thought for those of you wanting to save money in the long run

WOW, what a system you got there Pabuzalaf and that looks like a pretty good deal too. Got all the goodies. Good going with the 1 yr warranty, all you need to do is just extend it at the end of every warranty year and you'll be fine. That system is a keeper, well done :).

Is it recommended that I start with my desired configuration and haggle the price down. or to start completely stock and see what upgrades i can get and try to cheaply upgrade into the desired config? this thread is great btw!

Configure what you want in your cart, plus another laptop, perferably high end. Save your cart, and have the EPP phone rep pull up your cart. I mentioned it in the original post. It helps. Worked for me

When I bought my first Dell PC a while back, I ordered online and did a chat session. In order to complete the transaction with my DPA, I needed to talk to someone first. Glad I did! Got a discount, gift card, printer and some extras to sweeten the deal. :)

But I'll be saving the cart this time, and just calling directly first.

If any of you are on good terms with your IT guy in the office, and your company happens to be a Dell customer, get him to order it for you.

Listed price on the site was about USD600 more expensive than the price I paid for my M17x after my IT guy did a bit of arm twisting on the rep he knew. The guy even threw in a free HDD upgrade. I get the feeling they have quite a bit of leeway on upgrades and the like. Never hurts to ask.

Any of you guys know how good of a discount Life Technologies gets? I'm wondering if the discount is any better than my university discount. (I'd like the Boeing discount, but no one I know of works there.)

You can actually combine all of them. Life Tech + University Discount.

    I have got 10% University discount + 5% Employee Purchase Discount + 5% I don't know what discount LOL

If that's the case, I can probably get the m11x for ION netbook money if I haggle over the phone. IDK how much the employer discount is yet, but they do have quite a bit of Dell equipment around.

Is anyone else in the US getting US customer service? or all foreign customer service?

I usually can't fully understand them sometimes and it's hard to haggle.

About backpacks: do you just full out ask for one? or what did you do?

Also I have the $50 coupon for the email for signing up, but online it says its been used max times, anyone have any luck with this?

Hey guys, this is a great thread! I've actually browsed through pretty much all the pages on this thread. I'm going to be ordering a pretty loaded build from Alienware soon, and wanted to get advice on a couple of things:

    i) A lot of you have given advice to create an Item Configuration online before you call; and that I should probably create two so I can use the mind game "I'll possibly order the 2nd system when I have more funds" and make the agent giddy ... my only question is - If I create an Item Configuration & save it online - won't that already have the prices on it? Isn't the agent already going to know that I know the actual Cost of what I'm trying to order? How then am I going to play the mind game "But ASUS is offering that for $xxx ... why is yours so much?". I'm not sure, unless it doesn't matter that I know the cost.

ii) I see pretty much everyone on this thread has been able to get the 10% EPP. How? Do all of you actually have someone you know in the EPP? I don't know anyone who works for a large company which has a contract with Dell. How do I get the EPP discount?

iii) Is the "Double Your RAM" for M17x still valid? If I order 4GB DDR3, will I get 8GB DDR3?

iv) Besides the possibility of EPP Discount, the Double Your RAM, and perhaps some discount due to haggling - is there anything other discount that I can make use of? (Assuming I don't know anyone in Boeing & I'm not a student).

    Thanks Guys!!!

    i) I created only one configuration, and I straight away told the sales agent to pull out the configuration from my cart, and ask for the discount.
(The original price was $2500+) This is what I said:
"Hi, XXXX, I would like to purchase the one in my cart; however, due to limited budget, I can only afford to pay (tell them your budget, I told them $2000)"
Usually, the sales agent will respond with a ... sign, depends on your bargaining skill, probably you will increase your budget a little bit (for my case, I increased from 2000 to 2065)

ii) IMO, the EEP thing has nothing much help for getting the discount. They claimed that they have given me 15% discount on EEP + 5% special discount; however, from what I've seen, some of the non-EEP got the same offer with 20% straight.

iii) I don't see why not? But the point is, whatever the upgrades you have made will be counted towards the total price, and from the total price, they will apply the discount. If I'm not mistaken, upgrade from 4Gb > 8 Gb requires $250, if you get 20% discount, the upgrade would be $200.

iv) As mentioned above, be it a EEP or not, they are just using it "as an excuse" to apply a discount for you. IMO, the maximum discount they will offer so far would be 20.5% (I'm not too sure why .5 tho)

Awesome; thanks for the great advice. This is exactly what I'm going to do; I'll create my order and start it off from there. One question I have for you - Should I even mention EPP at all - or let them take care of it whatever way they want to?

My cart is looking like $4,000 right now ... if I can score 20% somehow ... that brings it down to $3,200 ... which would be awesome!! Is that a realistic goal?

    Thanks so much!!

AWESOME!!! And you guys are all using the same strategy as appearing in the various pages on this thread? Just simple haggling ... asking for discounts ... making up stories?

This is going to be fun.

    Guys,

It is HIGHLY advisable to price your system on the consumer site first if you plan on bargaining with the EPP reps... They're trying some really 'funny business' with the pricing.

The rep I was dealing with built exactly the configuration I did and said that she'd give me a $280 discount. Her price totaled out (with the discount) to $1.95 less than retail!

At that point I sent her a screenshot of the consumer pricing and said that if they want ANY further business from myself or the company I work for she better knock the $280 off the retail price. (I just spend about $500k with Dell annually.)

After 30 minutes she came back and said OK. I then told her that I get an additional 3% for DPA and have a $50 EPP coupon... She then started backpaddling.

I then asked for her supervisor, explained the situation and the ramifications. She gave me the additional off.

I ended up getting a fully loaded M11x for right at $1000.

If you're using EPP really watch these guys... They tried every trick in the book to scam me out of my discount.

Wow... what was the configuration price you had done on the site? A fully maxed M11x including warranty is about $2400. That means your $1000 price is a 58% discount!

    Rambler,

My starting retail total was $2301... My ending total after blowing my top was $1068 (including tax, shipping, etc.).

I also had a VERY long chat this morning with our Dell Enterprise reps about what the EPP folks tried to pull.

The main thing is BE CAREFUL... Know what you're buying, what your discount level 'should' be.

I've been an Alienware owner for years... One of the 'perks' of that was always that as a repeat customer you were entitled to a 10% automatic discount on other Alienware stuff. I stacked that with our corporate EPP, DPA, etc.

Thanks. I didn't know there was an additional 3% discount if you used your DPA, that can come in handy as well.

So... Being a AAA member will get me $100 off, I have a 15% off through a mailed flyer and DPA an additional 3%. Now I'm wondering if I should order through the regular phone number instead of the EPP number, and just tell them I get $100 off for being with AAA? Though I doubt I'd end up being able to get as much of a discount like what you did.

Fight for it! The EPP reps technically have as much flexibility as our corporate reps do... Only difference is they want to be greedy.

You should be able to get your 15%+EPP Percentage+$100 AAA + 3% DPA at a minimum.

When I started the transaction all they knew I had was an EPP discount. After they gave me a total then I brought in the other discounts. Once they tell you one price and you have additional coming off of that it prevents them from manipulating your discount away.

I don't have an EPP to go through, except for the AAA membership and that's a $100 fixed amount off. So I've got that, the DPA 3% and flyer's 15%. I guess anything else over and above that could be considered a bonus. But maybe if I call the EPP number and they try to scam me, then I can start spewing off and demanding additional discounts. LOL :)

It's a one-time use code that I received from an Alienware flyer in the mail. I'll be glad to post it once I place my order, but the flyer does state it's a one-time use code.

Alrighty, where do I start? For one i'd like to thank the TC of this thread for a extremely helpful thread. I am not good at haggling, I'm an honest guy(not to say you guys aren't) and it always feels like a spear is piercing through my heart when i lie to someone. I would like to acquire a very identical m11x that a past poster has acquired. he got it for 900$ when it was priced for about 1050$.

I don't really know where to start. well, firstly what are the websites of these sites that people get discounts from? I'm sorry if i missed the link but i hear of these great deals. 10% 15% 20%!? That paired with a price of 1.1k is about 110-220 ish dollars off. My girlfriend's mom works for the army and her did use to as-well. She's also a student that goes to my school(we both attend the school) will that stack? How do i check if my school gets a discount? would i have to call?

Again, I am very bad when it comes to talking to people over the phone and lying to someone but if it saves me a couple hundred i'll do it. Can you guys give me a few more scenarios/statements i can coach myself into practicing. I even joked to my girlfriend that i wished one of you guys were to do this instead of me because i don't think i can do a good job and say "it's for X and he'll call soon". Anyone know of any active coupons?

    Things i know:
    • Be polite and address them as "Sir and Ma'am"
    • Be careful and know what your starting price is, no "Funny business"
    • Call back if it doesn't work out for you
    • Get a quote (a quote? thats like a rain check?whats a rain check?*lost*)
    • Call back when it is in production and say if you could get it sooner could you really need it.
I'm sorry if this seems a little much but i really don't order anything. This would be my first time ordering a Big purchase as i am not very old (19). I'm just trying to get as much info on this as i can because i would like to jump in rooms for of cash like you guys (<-lol)
    Any help would be appreciated.

Edit:actually the person that got that m11x was the thread creator.

If anyone by chance doesn't use their one time use code (alienware 15% off) please pm me. I really want to purchase the alienware m11x and the 15% off puts it in the "I can buy it price." Thanks!

Hey DR650SE, thanks for all the info and help, and thanks to everyone who has contributed to the thread; it continues to provide hope in these benighted times :)

I'm in the USAF, and I've tried several reps using the techniques illustrated in the thread. I don't know if it's that my manipulation skills aren't up to par with the rest of you scoundrels ;), but the most that I've gotten so far has been a lousy, non-stackable $50 off of an M11X for a custom config (same one as DR650SE's). I did, however, get a rep who said that if I could prove that someone else got that configuration at that price, he'd sell it to me at said price, and said that if I had the e-mail of the person who bought it, that they could find it in their system. From one serviceman to another, DR650SE, could you PM me w/your e-mail so that I can use it to get the sweet deal you got on your M11X, or give me the # of the sales rep who gave you that deal? Thanks in advance.

I had someone get me a quote for a nice system today, and I mentioned to her to put in the 1 year advanced warranty.. It came out to a really nice price but at the end I looked at the quote and the 1 year advanced wasn't on there.. so I asked her about it and she said she forgot or something?... So after adding it she put it on, which somehow removed the discounts I had and threw on an extra $109.... I've been haggling all I could and really want one of these systems, but not for the price they're trying to get out of me. I need to find a 90% off coupon or something.

Following advice from this thread I was able to get 7% off using EPP in Canada. Normally youonly get 5% on Alienware products up here.

I had 2 systems in my cart, the M11x and an XPS Studio. Both were configured but the system I wanted was the M11x.

The Rep tried to only give me 5%, attempted to sell me additional warranty with 9% discount and what not. In the end I asked him if he was willing to loose a sale over a 2% discount because if he was I had no problem with that.

My final price was $1023 with the SU7300 and 4GB of ram. Not the nest but good enough for me on this system.

The best thing abbout having your system pre-configured in your cart is not spending 30 minutes with the rep going over evey single options...
