I couldn't order over the phone because O wouldn't get the price cut for Military so I had to order online from the AAFES( Army and Air Force Exchange Service) Specialty website. Once there you build your system just as you would on the Dell/Alienware website. Below is my order. Today, I did call the Dell Customer Service representative handling the return of an AW M14x I ordered but had problems out of the box. He did authorize one day shipping for me which cut 4 days off the estimated delivery date from 2/14/2012 to 2/14/2012. Additionally, he is requesting a sooner build date to get the system to me sooner than 2/10/2012. Here's my order...can't wait!

If you're not happy with the deal you got you still have time to cancel it and order from a different rep. that's how easy it is :)

When I talked to my rep, I didn't have to do an ounce of haggling dude...

    I told him

    1. My budget
    2. What I wanted

and we just talked it out. The only concession I made was taking the 2.4 processor instead of the 2.5 (which for the price vs performance is a better deal anyway)

You don't have to haggle at all man... don't think of it like haggling. Just be up front and don't play games with the rep and they'll work with you.

Long time lurker, first time poster. First off, I'd like to thank all the contributors to this thread as well as the OP. This entire thread really pushed me to purchase the M11X, but before I do I would like some feedback from anybody that got a good deal on the M11X R3 before I go with my initial quote from the Dell Rep.

    Here's the quote:
    318-0718 1 Intel Core i7-2617M 1.5GHz (2.6GHz Turbo Mode, 4MB Cache)
    317-6777 1 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
    331-2219 1 Alienware M11x 90W A/C Adapter
    320-2253 1 11.6in High Def (720p/1366x768) with WLED backlight
320-2255 1 NVIDIA GeForce GT540 graphics with 2.0GB Video Memory and Optimus
    342-2610 1 750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
313-8792 1 AlienFX Color, Quasar Blue
    421-5074 1 Alienware Command Center Software, M11x
    420-9691 1 DataSafe Local BackUp
    420-9956 1 PC Restore
    421-0092 1 DELL-DOWNLOAD-FLAG
    421-5789 1 Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1, English, w/Media
318-0716 1 Hinge Up WLAN -BLACK
    410-0548 1 Adobe Acrobat Reader
    313-9958 1 Integrated High-Definition Surround Sound Audio (5.1)
    430-4098 1 Intel Wireless-N WiFi Link 1000 a/g/n 1x2
    421-6496 1 Alienware M11X WIDI Software
461-8389 1 NO VIRUS PROTECTION REQUESTED
953-0080 1 Dell Hardware Warranty Plus On-Site Service, Initial Year
953-0100 1 Third Party At Home Service, 24x7 Technical Support, Initial Year
    950-3337 1 1 Year Limited Warranty
    950-9797 1 No Warranty, Year 2 and 3
421-1723 1 Soft Contracts Dell In-Home Hardware Agreement for Alienware
994-3730 1 Warranty Support, Initial Year
    988-1189 1 INFO, No Datasafe
469-0503 1 No Mobile Broadband Selected
    430-4128 1 Internal Bluetooth 3.0

The rep offered me $1120 before taxes. Is this considered a decent deal, this is the best offer I could get after so many attempts. I am starting to think that I would need to purchase something much bigger like the M17x or M18x in order to get a much better deal.

That's about how much I spent on my M11x R2 a year ago when it was new. I only got the 4GB of DDR3 instead of 8.

    $799 @ delloutlet right now.

what do you want a laptop for? to me m11x is pointless :) unless u wanted a small netbook look with alienware lights and the ability to play games at med to low settings.

The thing that caught my eye was the portability, I've checked out the M14X at the local Frys store, but that thing ended up being a lot heavier than I initially thought I could handle. The lights isn't what caught my eye, I was just unable to find a better alternative for that size. I want to game on the go as well and of course.... COLLEGE projects!

Called my customer service rep to ensure they did receive the defective M14x I sent back and inquire about my refund. He already upgraded me to 1 day shipping on the M18x I ordered to replace the M14x. I inquired about the 30 day wait again and he stated he is waiting for an email from assembly as to an earlier estimated delivery date than 2/10/2012. In the meantime he is sending me a coupon for $50.00 off any Dell item. Gonna wait a few days and call back to see if he offers me anything else. Nice customer service!

the only other alternative would be a HP Envy 14 or 15. if you're in college you should be getting good discounts with HP.

I have used an M11x for the past 2 years and am replacing it with the M17x. I really grew to hate the 11 inch screen. It is too small to work comfortable, too small to game and really enjoy it, just overall it is too small. Now that the M17x has 5+ hours of battery I really don't see what the M11x has as a selling point. It is like .3 thinner, a few pounds lighter, but like a third as powerful and much less comfortable to use.

My advice is just make sure you really want the 11 inch, because it is REALLY small.

Thanks I will look into that!

I will probably look into the M17x later down the line. Just trying to see what kind of deals other people got for their M11x R3.

How long did it take for you to get tired of the screen?

Oh, I was tired of the screen the first month. The laptop still worked fine for taking notes, web browsing, and other light tasks while on the go. However, I would often find myself waiting to do any real work until I got on my desktop. The screen is just too small, and while the resolution is fine for the size it is low res so you don't have a lot of work space, it just gets really annoying really fast, at least for me. I also quickly lost interest in playing games on it, again, screen too small, performance not nearly as good as my desktop, it just wasn't very fun.

Man all this M11x hate is killing me. I love the little laptop. It's a workhorse in every way. Plays just about every game I've thrown at it... Most at high settings.

While on campus I would always get comments on my laptop. I was in an airport lobby once, waiting for my plane to come in and a literal group of people formed around me watching my M11x.

I have nothing but good things to sat about the M11x. The only reason I went with a larger M17x was I wanted something with a more powerful processor for when I'm at my desk.

I've still got a year of warranty on my R2, I'm gonna continue to push this laptop as hard as I can. Hopefully it'll finally break and Dell will replace me with a R3 :)

Followed the advice to call up, initially this configuration totaled around 2450$
and then I cancelled to opt to the hybrid HD and it put me around 2550$ then I cancelled again and did standard 750gb and got to 2360$ note these were all online. I then called up and got the following below and got upgraded to free overnight shipping. It is showing a delivery date of around 2/1/12 what is the usual timeframe for below, the rep mentioned its usual much quicker because right now they are pretty slow. I can't wait I am stoked!!

Mine is coming Thursday, the wait is killer, but I am extremely thankful to get it this week. My EDD was next Monday, I would have cried if it had to sit in a warehouse all weekend.

Why are you exchanging? I can't think of anything that would make me exchange and wait again. Especially with the deal and discounts you got.
