Their chat system had trouble opening on my browser for some reason... I did manage to get it work once but it wasn't possible to get anything off from the person I talked with.

I don't hate talking on the phone, it's just the voice quality over cell phones in US is really crappy, so I can barely understand someone who doesn't speak very clearly.

I could get 10% + 50$ off (as I would even just using their web) off EPP website but the m11x configuration listed there is a robbery compared to the ~$800ish priced ones.

The M11x on the EPP site includes more options, hence the higher price. You can't however select the lower CPU or 2GB RAM as options if you wanted them.

Same here, Chat window usually doesn't open properly, and the one time it did, the person wouldn't give me any discount beyond the 7% I get with EPP.

They are ready to drop off prices for >2000$ products... but to get even 100$ off for <1000$ prod is really hard man.. I had to fight for applying 10% of my normal cart instead epp's predefined cart. And then for 50$ more... it was like 1 more hr of long discussion. I must be really bad at words :(
    Awesome deal!

I used the chat thing to order mine (that is after countless tries to get it open).
I got 10% off for student discount, $50 coupon, then $75 off from the rep. I might try to get next day shipping later on.

Tell them that you're ready to order today and you'd love to buy from them if they can help you out.
If they don't budge to give you any more just ask for a quote and be like " can you just send me the quote and I'll get back to you in a few hours, I need to talk it over".

After I said that, she went back and said " my manger found an additional discount for you to use". How conveniant..

Yeah, that's what I noticed. But basically that's what the online rep offered as well (I can click through the Dell web without their help :) ).

The main problem is that you can't really customize the EPP m11x, I wanted cheaper CPU (SU4300), smallest hard drive - since I can reuse the 320GB one I have in my current laptop and no extra crap like McAfee anti-virus.

On another note, yes, people are more likely to get much discounts on more expensive laptops like m17x. My minimum goal is 10% off the $850-prices m11x (basic conf with 4GB RAM). If I could sqeeze in new EPP $50 off coupon, even better. :)

And another thing I noted, by accident -- since I was planning to visit my friends in New York City (I live in NY state but not NYC) I thought I could have it delivered there so all of us could drool on it :p. However, the tax they applied to NYC was higher than upstate NY (~$7 more or so) so the total tax was like $75. On the other hand if my friend from Tenneesee happened to buy one he'd pay $35 tax. So maybe that's also worth checking out. I haven't checked what would be the delivery cost then if they deliver it to him and he ships it to me... :D

they don't really check the list, i told them my school, and they were kinda like "uh huh" and couldn't find it, just keep telling them you're in school, or even say you're with AAA. They just skipped it and transfered me to a sales rep.

Well its not like im lying to get my discount, i was trying to convey that the guy on the other side didnt' really care for much if my school qualified or not, he just skipped it after i told him twice and we got into business. Also i think you should note that extensions don't always work for the same person, or they use different names, i only say this because i talked to about 5 reps and i wasn't able to get back to them, they told me that it was easier if they called me back, but then again, they also have an email address, so you could email them. but dialing an extension never worked for me.

She had to email me something and that email came from a lady by the name of Joan (remember this is the same lady who said she was rose), then she sent me another email on the same call with the name of Sophia..... ??

Thanks for the great info everyone. Delta, did you have additional coupons? I've haggled like a mofo and they will not budge much on the quote. I'm attempting to order an almost identical system and it kills me to pay $500 more when I know you have the ability to get it for much less.

Do you have a ton of history ordering for Dell, etc?

Again, thanks for all the feedback.

I just tried to haggle for an m11x but they said alienware is a company that had their prices set and coudn't be changed. hewe as able to build me a nice studio xps 15 for $882 but I really would rather that nice alienware. He was really willing to lower the price but he said he really couldn't. How come other people could lower their m11x and i couldn't?

It depends on the guy u speak man! There's a guy here who cud haggle tru chat :( Haggling thru chat is nearly impossible for me. All are so stern in thier price.. take ur time to read the entire thread .It ll really help while speaking with the rep guy.
It ll take few hit and miss before u make it. But minimum discount u can get from em is 10% off EPP account + 50$ coupon subscribe mailing list +3% DPA. rest depends on ur talent.

One thing you can try (which I believe has been mentioned) is comparing upgrade costs with other manufatures. It drives me nuts that clevo charges +$190 to move from a i7 720qm to an 820qm, and Dell (with EPP) charges $270. .

I tried arguing that route but the guy upped me to $100 off on top of 2nd day shipping, 10% epp, 3% dpa. If he wouldnt have given the 100 off i was going to biatch and moan about that part.

So what are you saying? lol. What do people mean when they talk about when they mention the shipping rates? isn't that irrelevant?

And sorry for being noobish I'm one of the younger people on the forums.

Yeah tried that in my initial talk and he was like furious of comparing Alienware to HP (or even dell regular products) ! :p
"Sir! how could you even compare those products with alienware, If u want similar prods.. then u shud better try Dell normal products like XPS"
I said: nope! this is the config i require min and XPS dont have good Nvidia card which i req for coding Optix."
Rep:" this is what i can get u max... i really pushed it too far.. i donno how ur friend got his coupon stacked up... but i ll loose my job if i go beyond:
Me:" okay i cannot afford that much and i m like 100$ short from my budget. Email me the quote and i ll look if i can get the extra money. but seriously? my friend just got the same config for more than 100$ less plus with free next day shipping"
Rep:" I annot mail u the official quote but i saved ur.. i ll mail u my details.. i cannot go any thing beyond this.. just call me or email me if u think u ll go for this offer, thanks"
    --Thats it :(
-BTW: he didnt speak with this manager while on call.. maybe tht 100$ is from managers :|

its not irrelevant just because standard shipping (while free for epp in february) is 5-7 days or something. Next buisiness day shipping (so you get it a day after they ship it) is like 70 bucks for these m17x's. So haggling that saves you time and money.

I ended up getting next day business after they canceled my order and I had to reorder. Man they can be morons.
