I ordered through the alienware website, but the order was modified by a rep so the tax was added to the total figure ($1955).

There's a coupon you can google to get 200 off your purchase, then i called in and the rep gave me the 6990 for 150 from the 6870.

You just need to be creative with them... If you have good credit, tell them you will open a Dell account. If you are like me, I cannot stand credit cards, but that was the avenue that finally got me to the number that I wanted. When the first statement arrived, I paid the whole amount and closed the account.

Just a heads up, the only available GPU for the m17x r3 available right now is the 1 gig AMD.

My rep told me its because a new line is coming out but wasn't specific if he meant the new Nvidia and AMD vid cards or A WHOLE NEW M17x! Possible r4 very soon?

Not a fan of the small screen you got. I am intrigued by the mSATA however.

It is only only the 60Hz screen 17.3 inch 1600x900 and not the 120Hz 3D 1080P screen . The reason I went this route is the only way to get 120Hz screen at this time was to order the NVida video card and it came bundled with the 3D glasses, this was a $450.00 adder and I can not use 3D glasses as I only see out of one eye at a time. If I could have just got the 120HZ screen I would have done it and I suspect later on you will probably be able to . Thanks for the feedback , I tought this addtional info may be helpful too some one as well.

I see. Well as long as you made the choice conscientiously and didn't just neglect it I suppose so harm. Another reason I made mention of the 120hz screen is because I've been deadlocked with a 60hz screen for the last 6 years and it limits what I can do with gaming/FPS especially if I want to enable vsync. I don't even know what the 3d-gaming is like nowadays haha, technology is progressing faster than I can keep up.

The last 3d thing I saw was a movie at the iMax theater and it blew. I don't know why anyone would waste their money on that stuff on a personal computer, but maybe it's different nowadays.

I did cancel as when I loged back to Dell site yesterday the 16oox900 was not even an option anymore and you could get the 1080P screen 60hz though with the 7970m . Still know option for 120HZ with 7970M. I will hold off for awhile before I reorder and then if still not available on line I am sure I can get them to configure it that way when I call an agent. I was realy debateing before I even posted up about canceling this order and now I am glad I did . I think I will reduce the amount of RAM depending oon specials and a few outher changes to try and save some money when I reorder. Thanks again.

Returning my R1 for a R2 w/ the 675m instead of the 560m and 2 years warranty for $1,945.74. Is this a decent deal?

What do you guys think the average amount dell reps have took off build prices?

Edit: Just wanted to ask how much on average could Student discounts, coupons, and calling a rep(all together) save me on a 2500 M17 R4?

So is signing up for a preferred account a good method to get a couple 100 off your order? I don't know any vets for AAFES, I can only seem to get that $30 off "Members get the best price" with my university discount, and I'm an awful haggler lol.

Hi, im planning on buying the new m17x, yeah im going to wait a while until all the new tech comes out, probably a month or two from now, but im thinking just a base model with the AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M upgrade ($1,699.00 price) and maybe upgrade the screen to a 1920 x 1080 if i get a good deal ($1,849.00 for both).
How low could I realistically lower this to?
And any good reps would be much appreciated
God bless, and thanks in advance

Got my M7x R4 down from $3,200 to $2,800. In total, $3,001 with tax and everything. I was decently pleased, but will try for more soon. Can you call after the order has been confirmed to try and lower the price by saying stuff like, "Sager was willing to give a better deal"?

    Hey guys,

I ordered an m14x 3 days ago (with pretty much the highest specs you can get all round) and did so over the phone. I haggled for a while but could only get $75 off. Reading this thread it seems as though that was a tiny amount for a $3,600 laptop.

Is there anything I can do to get the price down (or perhaps some credit for other purchases) after I've ordered? Wish I had found this forum before I ordered.

    Thanks!

    P.S. Ordered from Canada

almost 4000 for an M14x? That's insane. Can you post a price sheet? I know canadians pay more sales tax, but that just sounds nuts.

I know it's a lot of money, but in the end of the day it's got to do a lot of things for me (including be very portable, hence the 14") so it is still worth it.

Still any $ I could save would make a big difference for me! :)

Here are the (important hardware) specs:

    3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3820QM 2.7GHz
    16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
9.5mm SL, SATA BD (BD-ROM)/DVD Combo

    14.0" HD+ (900p/1600x900) WLED

You should've emailed Alan first to get his price. I'm sure you could've saved much more than $75.

Yeah, and it took a few tries before I could even get that. Reading through the posts I'm sure I could have gotten a much better deal through this forum. Is there any way I could still do that though?

I mean I could re-order, but I would rather not since it would mean a longer wait. I feel like I should at least be able to get credit for a future AW/Dell purchase.

Got mine ordered. Finally scored a nice deal. Went through EPP. Here are my upgrades:

    Alienware M18X R2 - Direct
    Nebula Red Anodized Aluminum
    3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3720QM
    CrossfireX 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M

Retail before tax was: $2,699. After discounts, also before tax: $1,969.46. That's about 27%. Tax over here is 6% so not too bad. Oh, and once I receive my computer, my company gives me 3 years of warranty on them. And I also got Free Next Business Day delivery.

    :D

    I love my job!

Got mine (M17x R4 w/ 3820) ordered today as well.

I had a quote from Allan/Juan from earlier in the week and I called in and talked to another representative who was able to give me an even better deal than before. Overall I'm pleased. Final discount came out to about 17%. I'm sure others have done better, but I was prepared to pay full retail before I stumbled upon these forums.

Thank you all for making me aware of the discounts.

How is it possible? Dell doesn't have 7970M in 18x yet. Are you sure you got 7970M CF?

They came out yesterday. I don't know if your cookies are interfering with it and weird things like that happen sometimes with browsers.

Is there a place on the Dell Site where you're supposed to put in where you work or go to school, because I don't see one anywhere? I'm getting the same automatic $30 discount that "Members get the best price" so I don't understand how people are getting such enormous EPPs.

So the only discounts I'm able to get without calling is like 5% off total by being a member, and the EPP site won't really work for me so I have to do that through the phone? I don't look forward to calling cause I'm really bad at haggling. I'm gonna get an M18x and its gonna cost me between 2600-2800, think a 10-15% discount is what I should shoot for?

It was my first time ordering a system over the phone, and I was not confident about haggling either, but honestly if you call an ask for a quote, then ask if they can take down some of the price a little, you'll get more comfortable. You can save that quote and call again and ask for another quote to see if that rep can save you more.

I'm in the same boat as this guy only with an M17x. The EPP site just doesn't work.

Hey everyone, I just talked to a sales rep at Dell today and I got quoted for $3100, for the following system, do you guys think I can get a better price?

    3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3820QM (8MB Cache, up to 3.7GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
    English Keyboard, 101 Key, M18X R2
    18.4 inch (467.36 mm) WLED WideFHD (1080p) display (1920 X 1080)
    CrossfireX 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M
    500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s

    Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio
    Intel 2230 Wireless-N
    Alienware M18x 330W A/C Adapter
    96WHr 12-Cell Primary Battery
Dell Hardware Warranty Plus On-Site Service, Initial Year
In-Home Service after Remote Diagnosis, Parts and Labor On-Site Response, Initial Year

Originally I was going to go with the i7-3920XM and blu ray drive, but sales rep said he couldn't discount anything and said with the above configuration he can get me the price of $3100 even.

If $3100 is the after tax deal then I'd say you did quite well.
