Ok after much thought, I decided to change the specs to

6GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (will upgrade myself in the future)
1GB DDR5 NVIDIA GeForceGT 650M using NVIDIA Optimus technology (Should be enough since i not going to dual monitors, will only connect to my 23 inch monitor at home)
500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s (will upgrade myself in the future)
Best price quoted is 1177 before taxes with 5% gift card. I think i just order when my sales rep comes back to work after the weekend :)

So I just ordered an alienware, and I screwed up

    The m17x is $2044

+ $229 for the 2 year basic warranty

    = $2273

then I was supposed to get $195 off for the 8gb ram upgrade, 750gb HDD, and Killer Nic card combo listed on alienwares website at $1849.

Which would bring me to $2078

The Sales Rep Charged me $2079.54

This is after I thought the $195 discount was applied, plus another $50 off, Plus my MPP discount which should amount to 2%. Then it was $200 for the student discount and 5% off for the Dell preferrred Whatever. The only thing that seems to have come through was the $200 gift card to dell.com. The +5% cash back isn't even on the invoice

Should I be mad? I mean I realize it was my fault for not double checking, but I mean I spent an hour on the phone with the guy, getting things configured...

is it possible to cancel/fix this?

    Yo Bud,

If you sure that you are right, call them can cancel the orders and then re-order again.

And heads up for those who are still shopping for a Alienware, do call up Laura..she real cool..prices she quoted is great! was to get mine M14r2 from her but there was some issues with my CC so no choice but to order from Singapore Website.

And also apparently. besides US Dell...haggling also can be done with SG Dell...got my M14r2 for USD 1,600 (lower than the base price (USD 2000) posted on the SG website) with the followiing specs..

    i7 3610
    8GB Ram
    1600 x 900 screen
    1GB GPU
    750GB + 32GbmSata (upgraded from base model)
    Killer Wireless..(upgraded from base model)

for Dell SG, your order also comes with a belkin backpack...and if you order this month..they throw in a 2.1 speakers with subwofer..

Price is a bit higher then US but then hey..I get to pay installments with zero interest using my CC :)

Well, thats sort of why I posted it here...

    I ordered:

    An M17x-R4

    3610QM
    8GB DDR3
    750GB HDD
    Killer Nic
    Radeon 7970m
    DVD/RW Drive

So the 8GB Ram, 750GB HDD, Killer Nic, 7970m and 1080p screen came as a combo, that was $2044 less $195, which brings it, as listed on alienwares site to $1849...

    So...

    $2044 (for the combo online)
    - $195
    ______
    $1849
    + $229 ( 2 Year warranty)
    ______
$2078 This is the total + 2 Year Warranty.

    Now, using my MPP account

    it should have been:

    $2044
    - 231.96
    _______
    $1812.02
+ $224.22 (2 year warranty and MPP Price)
    _______
= $2036.24 SHOULD be my total with the MPP

    he charged me $2079.54

Does this seem to make sense to you guys? My math is not off?

So he gave me a number and said he would take another $50 off, which brought it to the $2079.54. Which in reality, I didn't even get the combo discount I should have gotten as if I ordered it directly off the site.

Let alone the fact that he said he could knock another $50 off...

He also said I would get the $200 Gift card + 5% cash back as well...

So I didn't even get the combo discount. I'm also a bit concerned that the 5% cash back isn't listed on my invoice, but I think others have mentioned this as well.

Blah, just a bummer, I was totally stoked for my laptop, then I looked over the order after I was finished doing some work on my house after I got home from work and realized this...

Hi, I will be on the phone with Dell the next free second I get and I have a couple things to ask about before I do.
First of all, how many coupons can you apply to your computer? Is it difficult to apply coupons when ordering over the phone?
Secondly, how much will reps. lower a system price before they reach the maximum discount they can give and you start pushing for extras and perks? (accessories, warranty upgrades, etc.)

Cancel your order and replace it with another rep that will look out for your best interests. If you need a rep, PM me, I've got a rep who works in EPP as well as a rep who works for Alienware and they've been really cool so far.

I figured out what was going on this morning, As it turns out, he put in the 2 year advanced warranty, instead of the 2 year standard. it also has the correct name plate. So ended up with about an extra $50 off the original price.

I'm glad I was able to sort it out. he called me 1st thing, pretty much as soon as he got into the office I had an email response and I requested a phone call and received it promptly.

There was an error, but it makes sense, and I am OK with it.

    Everything is all good!

    So its:

    M17x
    3610QM
    8GB DDR3
    750GB HDD
7970m (please for the love of god, I hope this thing works!)
    Killer Nic
    DVD/RW
2 Year ADVANCED Warranty Plan (not standard)
    free 2 day shipping

    got it for $2079
    after:

    $195 combo price discount
    ~2% discount for MPP
    additional $50 off

Plus a $200 Gift Card and 5% cash back gift card.

    So all is good.

Wow I love Laura. So I previously ordered an m14x R2 from her but I kept thinking about how I wanted the latest and greatest video card so I ended up cancelling today for the M17x R4. She got me a KILLER deal. I told her I priced one on the website for about $1860 before tax/shipping which include the following specs:

    1

    225-2945

Alienware M17X R4 with Soft Touch - Direct
    1

    317-9735

    3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3610QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.3GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)
    1

    317-9740

    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
    1

    331-6912

    English Keyboard, 101 Key, M17X R4
    1

    320-3275

    17.3-inch WideFHD1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
    1

    317-9747

    2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M
    1

    342-4427

    32GB mSATA caching SSD
    1

    342-4414

    500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s
    1

    331-1350

    Custom Nameplate
    1

    330-6106

    Personalized Nameplate Trigger
    1

    331-6859

    AlienFX Color, Quasar Blue
    1

    421-7439

    Alienware Command Center Software, M17X
    1

    421-5789

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Service Pack 1, English, w/Media
    1

    318-2315

Nebula Red with Soft Touch Finish
    1

    410-0548

    Adobe Acrobat Reader
    1

    318-2005

    Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
    1

    318-0424

Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio
    1

    430-4712

Killer Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO for Gaming and Video and Bluetooth 4.0

So I asked her whats the best she can do out the door and she gave me a price of $1700 out the door after taxes and next business day shipping. I then got the 5% cash back gift card and the student $200 gift card as well.

I'm stoked. I really wanted an M14x but I wish they offered the 7970 in that :(

But yea, I love this rep and she has helped about 5-6 other people on this forum already in the past WEEK. She doesn't even haggle, she gives you a great deal off the bat.

@OblastSRT4 you got a killer deal... Now I am not so happy with the deal I got.

Only difference between your laptop and mine, is a 2 year advanced warranty.
But I paid a lot more, and I didn't even have any taxes to contend with shipping to New Hampshire...

Damn, I knew I should have cancelled...

Thanks, yep I knew it was a great deal when I heard it. She first sounded like she wouldnt be able to do much but then she said 'Ok before tax you are looking at around 16xx.xx" and I was like, Hell yesss. Honestly I had no idea I even got the killer wireless until I just read my last post. It must have been included with the pre-config I selected. Now I'm even more excited. Estimated Delivery is 7/20. Maxing out almost every game should be fun.

I only went with the 1 year + accidental because that's the option I always go with. I am contemplating extending it when I get the $300 worth of gift cards but I am not sure yet. You can always extend the warranty later on.

I'm not sure exactly but just like everything it can be 'haggled' down. I asked my rep that if I ever extend the warranty or want to buy the Orion 17x bag, should I just order it online or go through her? and she said to give her a call because she can save me some money again.

Identity and I just confirmed that they just took the $1849 M17xR4 config off the website a little while ago and replaced it with a price of $2044. This might affect the quotes you get from reps...

Maybe they saw my deal and said 'ok we gotta change this'? Very weird that they would change it in the middle of the day.

I just ordered my m14x a few days ago. I have been lurking these forums for a while to see what the rough amount of discount is close to max for a computer similar spec'ed to the one I was getting. What is the typical discount to expect off of a $1450 m14x? When people on this forum talk about discount % are they including the gift cards in that? This is the deal I got, should I keep it?:

Does anybody know how often Dell makes a 10% discount on alienware? There was one a week ago, but I missed it and am waiting for another one. :)

Im planning on ordering an alienware m17x R4 in three days...

it has an i7 3610QM, an amd radeon hd 7970M and 6 gb ram (wich i would upgrade too 12 gb soon), killer wireless, 500 gb, blu
    ray

my Question is, is this a good 3D design/gaming pc (since i have to do both for my work)

and my second question, there are these rumors that the AUTOMATIC gpu switching doesnt quite work with a radeon hd 7970m (this
rumor isfrom the m17x R4 review on notebookcheck, check that out for more technical information)

    1) Yes, its a great gaming/design Laptop, especially with the 7970m.

    2) I dont see an actual question there but yes Enduro (the GPU switching tecnnology) is still new and far from perfect. To fix this all you need to do is hit FN + F7 on the keyboard and enable the 7970m full time. When you dont want to use the dedicated card anymore, disable it using the same keys.

    3) Read this thread if you want to save some serious money on a dell/alienware computer.

You can always get discounts as long as you 1) read this thread, and 2) call to place your order, never buy online.

Always call to make a order!!!! Talk to a rep and you should be able to get a much better price then off the net..

Getting 10% to 15% discount should not be a issues if you talk to a rep directly :)
