possible to get the m17x r4

    base i7
    7970m+200
    upgrade to 1080p+150
    killer wireless+70

which is around 1949 (the prices are all from memory)

for around 1400? so around 1525 after tax+ free shipping?

    or even cheaper?

so far best i can do by myself via online is 2% student/100 off from alienware/50 off if 1499+ coupons + 200 giftcard or xbox deal(only way to couple is via calling because i cant online).

I have previously gotten an m11x r2 for 900 bucks pre tax(upgraded) by calling b4 so i have the rep's details which i can call back.

I really want to get the m17x r4 for around 1300 (original being 1949 or 1879(no wireless card))

Once i see a % off coupon on the web, ill make the call and couple this with some rep talking. Hopefully this can be achievable.

Just so you guys know, when I tried to order an m17x with that $100 off coupon, the rep had trouble with the coupon. Last week they had a deal where they had configs with like 10% off or something. so they 100 coupon code wouldnt work. it is also VERY difficult to read, the 2nd letter looked like a B but it was an 8 etc...

Stick with it, they will get it to work somehow.

I couldn't get a deal I was happy with on an m17x, but really wanted the m18x more than the m17x anyways, and ended up waiting, then the next day I saw an m18x for sale here on NBR, so I jumped on that instead.

I did speak with a rep who's contact information was given to me by oblast, and she couldn't help me right away because I had cancelled another order with a different rep just a few minutes prior. But I would definitely try and contact her again if I was ordering a new laptop.

Hey guys, so I plan on buying my first Alienware in November in the United States. But they are really expensive (the GTX 680M's price doesn't help either).

So my question is: is Alienware, or NVIDIA for the matter, known for dropping their prices? Any history of them doing this?
And if so, any chance (and I know this is pure speculation) that the prices drop for November? (that's when I go to the USA, and the prices are considerably lower over there)

    Thanks in advance :)

(also, I read somewhere that if you order by phone, you can haggle the price, is this true?)

I've posted this a few times before but its worth posting again.

If you buy an Alienware from Dell at the price listed on the website then you are doing yourself and your wallet a disservice.

Instead, price out what you want for your build but do it from a competitor's website. Now bring that price and build and call 1-800-ALIENWARE.

Yes, I know it seems like that is too many numbers. Dial it anyway.

When you get a rep tell them you are looking to buy a new Alienware right now but you've got a few things you need. Ask for all these things up front. Ask if they will be able to give you these things and if not you will look elsewhere.

Be specific. When a price is finally agreed on tic off once again each of your requests to be sure that they are included in that price, such as 5% gift card, free shipping, etc. Ask the rep what those things will show up as on your invoice.

    1) Ask for them to beat the competitor's price.
    2) If you have to pay tax from Dell ask that the price they give you beating their competitor's price INCLUDES THE TAX.
    3) Also mention that you are willing to purchase it as long as you receive a 5% gift card, a $200 gift card, and free next day shipping.
    4) Be aware of current sales. Currently there is a sale for something like $100 off an Alienware laptop over $1000 IIRC. Make sure their pricing reflects that.
    5) Do not take an 'estimate' over the phone. Ask that the order be placed with you then and there. Also have your rep email you their contact information and let them know you will be contacting them frequently to check on the status of your order.

This is an easy way to get a great price. Will this alone get you the lowest price? Probably not THE lowest. There is always room for min/max-ing but it could take you forever.

We also have an Alienware sales assistance thread where you can submit your build to an Alienware rep that deals with Notebook Review members and who will then pm you back a quote.

Do both. Figure out which one is best for you.

To get a good deal on an Alienware you have to do a lot of the groundwork yourself. You will not see a 'sale' saving you hundreds of dollars on the website or in a store. And if you do you can be sure that the people calling and haggling or PM'ing Rev are getting an even better deal.

    Ironleaf,

Thanks for all the great information! I do have a question for you that I hope you can answer. I am currently working through AAFES, and the rep there has said that he is willing to do a price match guarantee with me assuming that I can get a written quote including the system configuration from Alienware. I spoke with someone last night who gave me a good quote, but I am now having trouble finding anyone willing to provide me that quote in writing....if you have any suggestions that might help me please PM me and tell me what I should do!! Thanks again to all the members out there who have given of their time and resources to help others get the best deal possible on their dream computer!!

Nvidia card usually drop in price and are comparable in price to their AMD counterparts a few months before the next gen comes out. So they very well be cheaper in a few months.

I hope someone can answer this question. I don't see it explained anywhere.
If Dell is offering 5% and $200 for students.

How does this decrease the price of the Laptop I'm looking to buy now?

All I can find on the Dell site is that it comes 10 days after your purchase and must be used within 90 days.

    Thanks

@jonnytsunami: I'm going to ask for a mouse when I buy my laptop :3

@imworkingonit: those are gift cards. it doesn't decrease your price. They just give you money to spend on them, and usually you pay a bit more out of pocket to even it out.

SIGHHH....I still haven't been able to contact Laura yet. Have to wait till Wednesday. Rev's guys were supposed to contact me today but no one did.

You can try, what most likely will happen though is she will discount you a certain % based on your selection so it might not be FREE, but you will get a nice discount.

It doesnt, first you haggle the laptop itself down to a certain price, well not even really haggle if you use my rep, she will give you a great deal off the bat. She's helped about 5-10 people on here already. After you work out the laptop deal, THEN ask for the student discount/gift card/5% gift card/next business day shipping.

As long as you prove you're a student (just give a valid EDU or name of school) then they will add it on without issue and then read a disclaimer to you. Its pretty easy. If you need the reps name toss me a PM.

So I need to buy something else, besides the laptop, to make use of the cards then. Darn, it was to good to believe that you could use them on the laptop itself.

Not enough post for PM, but as soon as I'm ready I'll shoot you a Pm.

    Thanks

So that was ALL discounts EXCLUDING the student $200 GC and 5% GC? $3942 down to $3328 (is this before tax)? Also, that's a $614 difference.

Well, as I had said, after tax it was $674 (makes me feel better about spending $3500 if it's the bigger number). Gift cards were another $366.

They were nice enough to let me use the 10% off code, then haggle a bit.

Hello guys! So glad that I found this forum. I have always been a desktop build your own system guy but now I am realizing that I would much rather have a laptop and am looking at purchasing an M17x R4 in the next week or two.

Spec wise what I am looking at ordering is this..

    PROCESSOR 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3720QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.6GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0)

    MEMORY 12GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz

HARD DRIVE 750GB 7,200 RPM + 32GB mSATA Caching SSD

    VIDEO CARD 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M

    LCD PANEL 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED

    WIRELESS CARD Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO for Gaming & Video and Bluetooth 4.0 edit

    INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BR-ROM, DVD+-RW, CD-RW)

    $2769.00

Also looking at purchasing the Orion Camo Backpack.

Now I know that I was going to spend a ton of money and can afford to spend that dollar amount above. This computer is going to be replacing my desktop and am looking at it to last a really long time.

    Now for my three questions....

    1. Is the price of the GTX 680M worth the $500 bucks or should I go with the HD7970? Like I said the money really isn't an issue but ofcourse I would like to save some money. Also keep in mind I am wanting the best of the best.. With in reason ofcourse haha.

    2. I see that everyone says to call in to haggle.. Realisticaly how much can I look at saving off of that price? I know they have the $100.00 going on right now.

    3. Should I tweek any settings?

Thanks so much for your help!

    1. Honestly, no. Single card support isn't that bad for the 7970m. Dual is more debatable. Performance is roughly equal.

    2. Depends on the rep and what you are getting, but at the very least you can get some nice gift cards.

    3. Remember you can upgrade some parts yourself and save if you want. Memory and hard drives being the main examples.

    1. Not in my opinion. Is it a great card? Yep. But they are both equal performers from a game standpoint and the Radeon 7970m actually smokes it in OpenGL programs. If both cards were the same price id say go for the 680m just because of driver support but its not worth the extra 350 they are asking.

    2. Price out your computer on alienware.com. Then from there, call them up and tell them what you want, then tell them about the $100 off, THEN start hagglin from there. If you want a no haggle rep who will give you great discounts, send me a PM. You can realistically look at between 10-20% savings, sometimes more.

    3. Dont tweak too much or else you will spend a lot of time on here asking for help on how to fix it. I find the people who constantly tweak are the ones who get themselves into trouble. Do basic maintenance on your system and play a few games to try it out, then go from there.

Also, not to be needy or greedy but Origin PC is offering a free 256 Samsung SSD.

Wow, I've looked at the M17x, but I backed off because of the price alone, but if I could get one down quite a bit I'd definitely get one. Oblast, I'll send you a PM asking about Laura's info.

Also, quick question: I read that the $100 off any Alienware $999 or higher discount runs out tomorrow. Is this true?

$1400 for the M17xR4 would be impossible unless you bought the complete base setup with the poor display and underpowered video card. I would say the M14x is more within your price range. Origin is even more overpriced than Alienware IMO. I priced out the same EXACT laptop with them yesterday that I'm getting with alienware and I ended up with a subtotal of $2400. The price I paid for the m17xR4 was about 1750 after haggle/discounts/epp. I also got the $200 gift card and the 75$ gift card and free overnight shipping.

    Done.

It's weird cause I put together the laptop, and granted the screen was 15 instead of 17, it was cheaper because Origin PC is giving away free upgrades to a 256 gb Samsung 830 SSD.

No coupon necessary, the discount scales with the build to an easily achievable 15%! Configure away!

    ah... very sad.
Hope they have this kind of stuff from Dell Hong Kong.
I am planning to buy M17x R4 once this kind of sale takes place.

i don't think there are any better gpu than the one you configured, unless you're going for the m18x for the SLI
