yep evil sorry to say but you do have downclocking!! Thank you by the way for your testing, that is even more proof of this isse that AW refuses to talk about. I bet you won't see Armando, James or Frank respond about this issue.

    Milcs,
Add my name to the downclocking CPU list. My replacement M15x was OK as far as cracks, scratches, GPU downclocking but after about three weeks i noticed the CPU was downclocking when burning DVDs and during some other intensive tasks. Yes i have the so called 2.8 (X9000) extreme processor.

There are quite a few titles where the downclock exists and it's obvious.
More, I work in Research and we often depend on computer to run algorithms (or whatever way you write that) that run for days with max CPU at all times.
It's also obvious when compressing music and video editing, etc, etc, etc...

So yes... when we talk about "reality", we have to be able to see EVERYONE's "reality".

Sorry for that tanamerra... but at this point, the more the merrier. Maybe all of you guys together will make something change.

Man sorry to hear about it tanamerra. If AW would let me change the thermal paste without voiding my warranty I'd have no problem trying it but at the same time I don't want to give them any reason to void it.

We are aware of the CPU downclocking affecting some systems. With that being said, we're also working to have this resolved for affected users. Bear with us while we undergo further testing.

Any updates will be made available as we receive them.

Let me just comment on some of the things you said James:

"...affecting some systems." - You are wrong, it affects ALL the systems with the extreme processor.

"We're also working to have this resolved for affected users."- All the users that have the extreme processors ARE AFFECTED. You have been doing testing for the past two months and it's impossible to understand how come nothing was done yet.
You are aware that the extreme CPU overheats and downclocks and still, you keep selling it to all the uninformed costumers. That's simply put, a crime.

For AW's sake, I hope you do solve this issue fast. Every day new users come and report the exact same problem. Till when do you think you are going to keep this "hidden"?

it's not a crime pr. say, but it will hurt them in the long run as ppl will return a lot of systems if ppl are smart enough to do so, because if this is a heat issue, they can only crank the fans up even more...

I think that willingly selling a defective product... that qualifies as a crime, no?

i think you misinterpreted what AW-James meant to say. I think by some systems he means that the systems that dont have an extreme processor are not really affected. the affected users and probably referring to customers who have the extreme processor.

Well, to be perfectly fair Dell is still selling their XPS M1330's after the severely notorious (even worse than the m15x, I daresay?) overheating problems and eventual GPU failures.

Lots of companies do it. Hardly ethical and a terrible practice, but as Maceto said, you never really see anyone take them to court on it.

Today is a day to celebrate! :D

Almost 4 months after we started this thread, AW finally released a Bios Update that fixes the extreme CPUs overheating and downclocking problem.

Without further delay... the X34 is here!!! :)

I would recommend all the owners to flash your Bios to the new version (even if you don't have the extreme CPU), as some people already reported a global reduction on the laptop's temperatures.

It would also be in everyone's interests if a new thread like this could be started to explore the new Bios and the results of re-testing your CPUs. People should also test their GPUs to double check whether both CPU and GPU's temperatures have been reduced with the new bios.

Good luck to all, keep fighting for your rights :D and keep smilling.
    Take care,
    M. (over and out)

Weee finally, would be interesting what the fix actually does in detail?
After its only a software patch the only things I could think of are
    - lowered vcore
    - lowered clocks
    - more agressive fan profiles (= fans run longer faster)

Some testings of owners would be appreciated!

well guess what they did. They lowered the voltage and increased the fan speed. Thats all I've been able to see so far. Thanks milcs for all you help with this.

Well... don't thank me! Thank yourself and newfiew for bringing this issue up.
Also, thanks for all your tips and for educating AW techs themselves! :D

Just one question... how much faster and louder is the M15x now? Maybe I will order one again! :D (or maybe not... ahahaha)

well I've had mine on now for about 30 min and the cpu fan hasn't cranked on cpu temp 46c and the gpu fan is running at 2560rpm so right now can't really hear it but when you really start to push it it will get louder but all the way around the temps much cooler. Seems like they did a great job with bios. (they better have they've been working on it for 4 months!)
