I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet (it's been a very long time since I've posted on this thread) but I noticed a while ago that I am unable to get the plugin to launch correctly on my Dell M15x if I have the Alienware Breed Windows 7 theme displaying. This can be easily fixed by right clicking on Winamp.exe, clicking on properties, clicking on the compatibility tab, checking the Disable visual themes checkbox, and clicking OK. Just figured I would mention it in case someone runs into the same problem.

Not sure if anyone has figured it out yet or not. This plugin works 100% with current foobar2000 for any of you users that enjoy foobar2000.
You will still need the Winamp folder in your appdata roaming so the plugin can load the required files!!!!!!!
To do this without Winamp Even Installed
1.You will need this http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_vis_shpeck
2.Get that added to foobar then go to your foobar Directory and make a folder and name it Winamp
3.Inside that folder make a text file and rename it to Winamp.exe(Thus changing it to a .exe file)
4.Now make a folder named Plugins
5.All you need in this folder is libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll and vis_winamp-alienfx-plugin.dll
6. Now create another text file for the plugins folder and name it Winamp.exe
7 You will still need the Winamp folder in your appdata roaming and the AlienFX files there so the plugin can load the required files
8. Open up foobar and go to preferences>Visualizations then click on shpeck and assuming everything went well when you hit refresh the AlienFx plugin should appear and you can then start and configure it.
Also....You may have to get winamp to make the required files to start with.....not sure if foobar will make them like winamp does...

I tried this trick, but I get an XML Error: " Unknown config value 'maxupdaterate' "
Is it a problem? Is there a fix?
My Alienware is a M11x R2. -
YES, I have finally gotten it to work!
For those having difficulties with the error called "No device found", then chances are, you need a file called alienfx_vis_device. This is NOT the same as alienfx_vis_config, the device file is the one you configure yourself with this site: Alienfx winamp plugin update | Ingrater's 3D Blog
If you have alienware 17 R5, you can just copy paste this into notepad and save it as alienfx_vis_device.xml.

I got the plugin to work, but now I have a question on how to change something. In the configuration options, you have on the bottom the zones (i.e. speakers +logo, keyboard center etc...) How can I add/change something? For example, when I go into speakers and logo the LED's active are Right speaker Logo and touchpad. There is no option for left speaker zone. Also the Media keys there is nothing, and no way to add it. Any ideas?
For anyone who is having trouble getting it to work and getting that error that pops up when you try to start the config, you need to have the correct file to go along with your specific laptop. For example, I couldn't get it to work for awhile because I have a M17x R4. I kept using other models and that wont work so you get that error. Look around in the forum for your specific model and it should work. Someone also posted a link on how to configure it to your specific model. -
Disregard my last. I figured it out. It might help someone else though. When you are in the config part of it and you have the difference labels, mine was a little messed up to begin with. left speaker was in with the number pad, right speaker with center keyboard stuff like that. So if you just back them out of the active, make your own label and slap them in there, you are good to go. Took me WAY too long to figure that out.... But maybe this will help someone else and save them from the frustration. Cheers!

Any way to get the trackpad to flash? I have Alienware M17X.

I got this working on my Alienware 18 R5. Figured it out myself.

I have the Mid-Late 2013 Alienware 17 too, and can't get the plugin to work. It keeps saying that no AlienFX device is detected.
I am at work right now so i can't compare the .xml i made to yours, but I am pretty sure it is identical. I did the LED Test and that worked fine, and i used that info to populate the .xml, so there shouldn't be much room for error here.
Did you have to do anything else to get this working at all?
When i get home i will try copying your data and see if there is any difference.Last edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
Got this working smooth as now. Thanks to everyone on this forum for help and assistance.
Hope this helps someone somewhere sometime! :hi2: -
got it working but does anyone know how to keep the touch pad light on while the plugin is running?
-
The setting is done in bios, there should be an option where at "touchpad" it says "auto" or "on". Switching it to on will make the touchpad permanently on unless you turn the touchpad off. I like to keep it on.
-
Hey everyone, i have not read this thread for years, and.. will this work with the new Alienware 18 ? thanks..
-
Wondering somebody could share their alienfx_vis_settings.xml for the alienware 17.
I have used inuyasha555 devices config, but i am horrible at configured these frequenties to make it look remotly good.
Thanks -
Hi all, Here is a modified version from the one that I got it to work on my old M14xR1 and R2, so I went in and have a look and the new AW 15's keyboard product ID and notice that it is basically same with the M14x thus I went in and mod the old files to work with the new Alienware 15.
It work fine however there is one LED that I can't seem to figure its ID is the Power Button, which mean every light zone will work except for the Power Button. I've a guy confirming that the plugin also work on the Alienware 17 R2 but might need some tweaking.
Here is the link to a YouTube video I made to show the lightshow in action (Download link will be in the description):
Inside the zip file, I've also include the AlienFX LED Tester so then if anyone want to get it to work with other laptop such as Alienware 13 and 17.
All credit goes to Ingrater who developed this plugin.Mr. Fox likes this. -
Does anybody know if this works with the Roccat Isku fx? It is compatible with AlienFX.

Have you double checked all the files locations ? I had issues too first I placed them wrong then I had the config in the other, Also there should be 3 files devices, config, settings. Alienware 17, 18 have specific device ID's I guess. Follow the blog guide and try to ID all the zones maybe ? Yeah It will be a lot of work but might be ended up productive ?
Also I had it running It was semi-cool since I didn't had all the zones lit also I thought rapidly changing them for long periods could damage the TRON lighting board, So I didn't uninstall it but just not using this. -

Seems that the problem was with productid...The I needs to be capital in order for winamp to read the file for some reason. Everything is up and running now. These settings pertain to the Alienware 18 (Mid 2013) model. I also had to add 3 more 0's. So instead of the product ID being "0x523" as it is in some other models, mine will only work when edited as above. Below is my settings xml for anyone maybe needing it to get things rolling if your having problems with that as well. Anyone that needs any further assistance just hit me up and I will do the best I can with helping out. The PB is not confirmed working but I have it labeled as the power button. I may have to change this later on.
