AlienFX Pidgin + Winamp plugin

Still doesn't work

 

The error seems to be with the zip file, not the upload - Vista and ExtractNow can't extract it. My guess is the zip file got corrupted somehow. Can you re-zip and re-upload?

 

remove the - at the end of the file name and it works fine.

 

I don't have a dash at the end of the name...

I made a self extracting archive:

nope - got an incompatibility error when trying to run the .exe

also, the file size when downloaded was 95.3kb

That is totaly strange. I tested it on my XP machine and my Windows 7 64-Bit machine. Worked both. When I download it I get 160 kb. And extracting works also on both. What browser are you using? Maybe your browser can't handle the way the forum does change the links and it somehow gets corrupted. Try to copy and paste this link into your address bar

or

If it still does not work try using another browser and try to download it multiple times.

ok I guess I got to this thread a little late. So far I have installed Fx-setter and it is working great. Removed Command Center as I like the way this works. What is the status of the Winamp plugin / beat detection program? I'd love to test this further. Area-51 m15x (old version) with AlienFx Keyboard. Living in Prague right now so I'll be able to work on it when the rest of these people are asleep

 

Ingrater sent it to me via ICQ/Pigdin and I was able to open the zip file. So far, I've found:

1. It works great when there are notifications such as IM's. Though this happens only when the IM window is not in focus (i.e., another program open). I'd suggest if possible to make it work even when the IM window IS the focus (or at least make an option for that to happen). Why? I might set the M17x down and do some gaming or something. If I can glance over to see flashing lights, I know I have an IM to check out, even if it's continuing a convo I have going already.

2. My only real complaint is that I find the LED's take a while to take effect after getting an IM. This wouldn't be a big deal except the text in the IM isn't displayed until the LED's start changing. But I hear the IM sound immediately. Not too big of a deal, as I doubt that can be changed/sped up at all.

3. The four keyboard zones do not pulse/morph/change color upon notification. All other zones work fine. Ingrater is aware of this - but does this work for anyone? Could those of you who downloaded the plugin give it a try?
Ingrater - thanks again for putting this together. I'm now using Pigdin because of this!

 

1) This can be easily added to the plugin. Thanks for the tipp, didn't think about that way to use it.

2) That is because the alienfx device needs a while until it reacts. I don't know if I can improve that. It could maybe be achived by grouping the commands together, because using more leds means bigger delay, because I have to send in more commands to the alienfx device. The m17x has 5 more leds than my m15x so this could be the cause for the delay.

3)I'm looking into this problem right know, but until now I don't know why it does not work. It works in my alienfx-setter so it should work in this plugin also. Most likly it is a bug in my source code and not a bug in the alienfx device.

Edit: Do the left and right speaker leds work?

Edit2: Currently having a problem with the winamp api. Waiting for a answer in the winamp forums. Until that the release of the alpha will be delayed.

 

Integrater, I had a problem after I installed your Alienfx-setter. The volume button would randomly start tweaking out and change the volume up and down on it's own. Then I did a restart and found that the power button was taking in false responses as well when my computer just randomly shut down. I am guessing that since no one else has reported this issue it is probably due to some driver that I have on my computer conflicting with your software. I am currently back on CC now until I find the source of the issue. The only AW software I had installed was the OSD Utility. I am currently in Windows 7 64-bit. Thanks

I'm also using Windows 7 64-bit. No problems on my side. My app can not influence the way the touchpanel works. It only talks to the led device. It happend sometimes to me that the bluetooth button triggert at random, but it did that even with the CC. So I think this is a genereal problem of the touchpanel and not of any software you install.

Also my app is not a service like the CC. If you close my app it is gone and does not remain in the background like the CC services. So there is no possible way for my app to influcence the touchpanel. Also my app is no driver. So there can be no conflicts with other drivers.

 

So here is the alpha release of the winamp plugin. It was tested with Winamp 5.x. I can not say if it works also with earlier Winamp versions. This is known to be still buggy! Do not use this plugin in a productive environment.
Everything you need to know is in the readme file. Please toy around with the config values and let me know for which type of music what values are the best.

Currently supported: Area 51 M15X, All Powerfull M17X

This is a alpha release! Lots of features are missing, some features are still buggy, do use it only when you know what you are doing.

Known bugs: Only low beats are detected. The color is made out of the beat height. Low beats mean red, high beats mean green. Between the colors get blended.
Sometimes it resetes the alienfx device during visualization. When that happens it takes aprox 2 seconds for the alienfx device to restart.
Sometimes it crashes winamp when the plugin is unloaded.

Yeah you're right. I noticed to late that I didn't save the readme file before packing it ^^. Also I once again missed to add the dll my compiler is always using. I messed around with Lord_Zath yesterday but unfortunately we didn't get it to work on the m17x. It does the beatdetection but it does not display the beats over the alienfx device. Otherwise I can confirm that it does work with the m15x.

I used libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll from your earlier pack. What has to be done? create a folder called alienfx in the plugin directory? Im assuming that the vis file has to be put in the root of the plugin directory.

 

You need to copy the libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll to the winamp root directory. Copy the vis_alienfx... dll to the Winamp/Plugins directory. When you start the first time a pop up appears where you have to copy the config file to.

Edit: I have fixed the readme and uploaded the zip file again with the missing dll

Beat detection worked erratically, played with the values. tried resetting colors in CC and lost all ability to contact the AlienFX device. Also, there is a TUSB3410 Boot Device that seems to not have drivers installed. I assume this is AlienFX Device. As it sits my computer is dark, no lights at all. Any hints?

 

It could be possible that the memory of the alienfx device contains invalid information. Set all leds to a different color using the CC or my Alienfx Setter and restart your laptop.

 

Actually it says that there is a TUSB3410 Boot Device Driver that is not installed. From my recent research I found that the TUSB3410 Boot Device is used to control the Alienfx Device. How can I reinstall the driver for this?

 

I don't remember installing any driver for the alienfx device as it is a standard hid device which works with the standard hid drivers from windows. Look at the vendor id and product id in the hardware manager if they are 0x187c and 0x512 its your alienfx device. Otherwise it's not.

That is funny. I crashed my alienfx device countless times and I never had that problem.

Well don't tell them you used an program not supported by aw. Then they probably won't help you.

 

I had that happen to me once. Shut down the computer, unplug power, unplug battery. Hit power button several times. Reconnect everything. That's what worked for me...

 

yeah I've had this happen to me as well before, and that fix has worked, but this time is different.

That is not possible yet. It's one of the missing features ;-)

Ingrater, I tried messing around with the winamp plugin again. Still not working. I'm wondering if perhaps the missing .dll file you x-ferred over was for a different Alienware laptop (like your M15x)?

In any case, I tried re-downloading your .zip file and got nothing but errors. It downloaded once, but when I tried to open, I got an "invalid/corrupted file" error. I even tried remote desktop into my work computer to download it there - same issues. Even tried Firefox. It must be my connection. In any case, could you please upload the .zip file to a new post? You can attach a file directly to the post - to do this, reply to this post, then click on the "manage attachments" button and upload your .zip file. Maybe that way it'll work...

 

I'm pretty shure that it does not work with the m17x because I could test it not properly. I wrote a m17x test app I wanted to test with you. But for that to happen we somehow have to come together despite the 6 hour gap.

 

After this week, I'm off for two weeks. I'm sure there's a time during that period we'll both be on...

 

Status update?

 

I've been working on it the last days together with lord_zath. Unforunately there is a problem with querying the device status of the new alienfx devices. As I'm currently in vacation I don't have the neccessary data with me to solve that problem, so I'll have to wait until I'm back home to solve this problem. That will be at the 4th of January. So expect updates some time after that.
