I am sorry if its been covered, but where do I find this file location to put part of this plugin in?

copy the alienfx_vis_config.xml to your appdata/Winamp/Plugins directory (appdata/Roaming/Winamp/Plugins for Vista and 7)

I can't find the "appdata" folder?

Make sure to read the included instructions after downloading the plugin. You have to change a setting in one of the files.

I looked over the readme, tried it, and I still get "Alienware Device not found. Plugin not Active!"?

Go back to: C:\Users\(Your User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Winamp\Plugins

Right click and open "alienfx_vis_config" with notepad.

Ensure model value is set to 3 as shown below:

    Code:
    model value="3"

    then save. try again.

You can post your vis_alienfx_config.xml and vis_alienfx_settings.xml so that others can use it, as long as they have the same laptop model as you have.

    I'm glad you like it.

Anyone have a good configuration to move to the music. I've played around a bit and even at best it's still pretty random to like 50% of every song.

Not so easy, is it? You can try my config in the readme if that helps.

Remember to think first what kind of "beat" you are looking for. If you mean low bass beats, then focus your attention on the lower frequencies (1-4). Work your way from there...

Are you linking the zones to multiple frequencies or to one frequency? Too many frequencies, and you'll have it blink too many times. Too few, and it won't blink often enough. So part of the "fun" is trying to find the balance..

Hi, i have got also the M11X.

The Plugin is working fine, but:
After shuting on the plugin, and after some songs you try du shut it down, by closing winamp, winamp response not more!
But this is not a big problem for me.

But, what i need, is a config for M11X.

I tried with the config from the readme file, and it isnt so good for the m11x.

I tried also about a long time to finde the best config but it didnt work.

Can somebody upload most best config for the m11x, how do i configure the frequences and the places (Keyboard, Speaker, Logo) to what numbers?

i wrote also a massage to this guy

    YouTube - Alienware m11x - AlienFX winamp plug-in

it seems he has the best config that i ever saw for the m11x

but he doesnt write me back, so i am searching for the best config.

Can you halp me, have you got a good config and do you have 10 minutes to write it down in doc or notepad?
If yes, thank you very much!!!!!

And ofcourse thanks for the developer! A great thing you made!!! It is aweasome!

And sorry for my english, i didnt wrote a long time in english!

    Winamp 5.57
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    M17xR2

Winamp Folder location: c:\Program Files (x86)\Winamp
    User Files location c:\users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Winamp

Followed directions 3 or 4 times, using 3 different clean installs of Winamp (all 5.57) and removing/copying files to the correct locations. Verified the config file was correctly modified in Roaming. Every time I click on Start I get a pop-up saying this and Wimamp crashes:

    Plug-in executed illegal operation.
Restart of Winamp is recommended (1)

    Happens every time. Any ideas?

Try reinstalling Winamp and putting the plug in right away. That fixed a major issue that I had that was holding up release for a few days.

    Hey Stinger,

Thanks for checking out my video, one suggestion to prevent Winamp from closing is to close the actual plugin window first (the one that displays the bar) once this has prompted that the plug-in has finished/close it should be safe to close winamp without it freezing.

I've seen your comment to the video, and I'll look into it once I get home about the more delicate details concerning the config document.

Just more like a stab in the dark since I haven't encountered that problem, but try altering the permissions for the folders to all access and see if that works.

It works perfect with Winamp Lite. The only thing is you have to create a plugin folder for alienfx_vis_config.xml within the appdata\Winamp\ directory.

    here is my vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTBaPMjXVkM

@Stinger666 - Hello again, the configuration to the zones I guess would mostly be towards own taste and the type of music they listen to, when going about setting the zones I usually have the keyboard in its own zone and both speakers and also alien logo in a grouped zone, Just so that when it's beating with the music it'll match having them grouped instead of each one alone.

With numbers, I wasn't too sure what did what, so I did every second one into one zone and the rest into the other.

    ok, ill try.

but what is interesserting ist the config of the plugin window (i mean ALT+K) where you can set up the things like 0.52 for example, i dont understand what it does. I changed the values, and i didnt saw what it did.

Putting everything in one zone on M11X is not a bad idea. Because the M11x is so small, it looks more good when everything works in one zone. On big Laptops like M15X oder M17X i think i looks best when you make many zones.

i hear rock and metal, but my settings are not so good, some times the light is still on, but in the song the frequence isnt there, i mean, i set up the right frequence and the wrong one togheter.

    ill try a little bit.

    Thank you for your awnser!

I figured out what my problem was. I realized it started up after I tried to install Catalyst 10.4 and was forced to revert back to the Dell drivers. Even though the Dell ones reinstalled fine and games worked, I found a few things had some problems. After I cleared out the drivers again and reloaded, the apps I had issues with worked and now the plug-in works for me as well. Just crashes 100% of the time when I stop it.

I love your idea, Ingrater. The Pidgin notification system is simply genius, but I can't get it to work. I end up with an error: "Couldn't find the Alienware Device. Plugin not loaded!"

    How do I fix this?

    Thanks in advance!

Its because the plugin is for the old M15x. Either ask Ingrater to add M15x/M17x support, or I can have a go at it some time if you really need it.

sorry to say, but after checking the source for the pidgin plugin, it does turn out to be only for the old m15x. If you really need it for M15x/M17x I could spend a day or two fixing it.

Any chance of something similar for Windows Media Player? I refuse to install additional media players when the one that comes with Windows plays EVERYTHING just fine with the correct codecs installed. I'm not going to slow down my system by installing some extra media player just for AlienFX integration...

This has probably been answered before but my right speaker doesn't make any flashes or anything. It just stays the same color but the left speaker works fine.

Also when I stop the music all my backlights turn off and I have to reapply the colors via alienfx

If you install a simple player like winamp and don't use the media browser and other crap then it's not going to slow your machine down at all.
