It sure does feel like IPS is always 'the' talking point in a lot of circumstances, as if TN is a complete POS.
Over the years I've witnessed far more people dissatisfied with uneven light distribution and bleed from IPS panels, more than any common complaint of a TN.
I've never even thought TN panels I've owned looked bad next to my IPS screen - not once.
I can see how color shift might be a thing to complain about if it were used in TV displays. What I want to know is who operates a computer on a 170 degree angle?

So there it begins, the UEFI Class 3 cousin..Was the Alienware 2013's BIOS not enough to keep us locked down..
I don't get why they always end up using the best against us. This time cloud..meh.
Blow after Blow, dunno where this type of thinking will carry us to...
I still think that people are just too dumb these days, they just accept what ever these companies spew out be it anything they'll love it, this is the main reason everything is getting gimped and downgraded & against liberty.Awhispersecho, TomJGX, Papusan and 2 others like this. -

What would be amazing is if the EUROCOM SKY X9 motherboard would work as a bolt-in upgrade on the Alienware 18 chassis. Won't even come close to working, but yeah... would be nice if it did.

- This only applies to PCs built by an OEM that were sold with Windows 8+, as it's the OEM license contract for Windows 8 forward which dictates the BIOS/UEFI firmware must be signed.
-
. Unlocked bios is a must... Because DELLIENWARE + other OEM always make bios with a lot of limitations aka wrong Power settings. Intels own specifications are never followed. Intel said thermal throttle right before 100c, but the results is often 85c after OEM's firmware partners create a new bios. Throttle at very low hardware temperature mean more money for the shareholders.
-
- The other, albeit smaller factor, is about the necessitation for Dell to also protect itself since they are providing a warranty. Due to federal and state laws, they must provide a warranty, so it's not possible for a user to say "permit me access to the locked out features and I'll waive my warranty".
I see posts and threads addressing the access to specific locked out BIOS features quite a lot, with many looking/asking for a modded BIOS that's been unlocked, only to discover any BIOS/UEFI firmware signed with a certificate is never going to be possible to unlock (technically, you could "unlock" the BIOS image, but you would never be able to flash it). Here's what I've suggested, which no one seems to want to put forth the effort to do:
- I think if users banded together and decided upon very specific features they'd like access to that they're currently locked out from accessing, providing relevant, rational arguments as to why they want access to these specific features, putting the request into a professional format and getting a substantial number of signatures, and finally submitting it to Dell's CEO, as well as the head of the Alienware brand, there stands a decent chance of the request being addressed.
Even if my hunch is right, and certain BIOS features cannot be "unlocked" without also providing access to features that need to remain "locked", it is possible for Dell to write a program that can be executed within Windows to affect the change, which is exactly what OSD does for the switching of integrated/discrete graphics.Last edited: Mar 2, 2016 -
DELLIENWARE will never ever let you have a high performing laptop as in this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...enix-has-arisen.781814/page-446#post-10211260
Dell will put restrictions on hardware, firmware and the motherboard. Power Will be limited by maximum 1x330w psu, even the hardware can push that limit.
Let buyers have access to a bios with serial number for the machine and they have to pay extra for an special warranty. This is easy to manage if they desire.Last edited: Mar 2, 2016 -
If you and other users want access to specific BIOS/UEFI firmware locked out options, then seriously pursue it by doing something similar to what I suggested in order to gain results.
There are two sides to this, and if one goes in with the attitude its MY pc, MY choice what I do with it, then the individual(s) are setting themselves up for failure.
- Yes, the PC is yours and you own it... but Dell is also obligated by law to provide you a warranty. Is anyone seriously trying to suggest Dell, or any business for that matter, should allow you to damage their product via negligence and then have it warrantied? This isn't hardware damage in the normal sense that we're talking about... this is hardware damage that could be caused by a user and of which there is no discernable way to distinguish whether it was caused by the user's own negligence in the BIOS... even more so since the BIOS can still be accessed on a damaged MB, and even if it isn't, a new BIOS chip could be soldered on, thereby destroying all evidence of the user causing the damage themselves.

Many don't realize a warranty is a binding legal contract between the buyer and the manufacturer, of which comes with binding legal authority. Even with Dell severely limiting it's possible exposure by guaranteeing any complaint must be arbitrated and they cannot be sued (having been upheld by many courts), the buyer still commands tremendous power within the warranty. For example, all warranties are covered under contract and insurance law, and as such, anyone selling a warranty must be licensed by each state's department of insurance in order to sell their products [that have warranties attached] in that state. In other words, if sufficient grounds exist, the D.o.I can suspend, or altogether revoke, the manufacturer's ability to sell products with warranties in their state.
This is not as simple as this is MY pc that I bought, and therefore I should be given access to the full BIOS; it's also not as simple as other manufacturers offer full access so why can't Dell. It's an apples and oranges comparison due to the legalities involved. No two manufacturers' warranties are the same, and even if they were word for word, each probably has separate stipulations set forth by their insurance companies. There's also different tax laws that probably play into this as well, combined with possible governmental deals that guarantee, or at least make less likely, they won't be sued if they decline to fix under warranty any damage that could have been caused due to negligent actions within the BIOS.Last edited: Mar 2, 2016Jambu95 likes this. -

Out of curiosity, where did you get that information from, as if that is something Dell offers, I'd be interested in it after my warranty has expired? -
But how you twist and turn on this topic... OEM's can if they want. As Dell don't want to offer this, even with an extra warranty which is extra costly for the customer... Just go ahead to those who offer this. Dell does not need my and some of my friends money. Pretty okay really
Only +5000$ less in the shareholders pockets this year from me. And in 2019 the same amount of money will go to Clevo or other who want my hard earned cash. + minimum 5 of my friends will do exactly the same. I don't need to buy from Dell

You're attempting, as many continue to do, to oversimplify the issue. Anyone can say 1 + 1 should equal 11, but that doesn't mean that's how the world works. If you truly want to understand why the issue is complicated, I encourage you to do the legal research of reading the applicable warranty, reading the relevant contract and insurance law statutes at both state and federal levels, then determine whether it's as simple as you seem to believe it is.
Bottom line, either attempt to get your issue solved by doing something similar to what I originally suggested, or stop complaining. You have zero to complain about if you're not willing to put forth the small amount of effort it would take to get this addressed.
A quick reality check... Dell, nor any large corporation, gives a hoot about losing 6 customers, or 10, or 100; as for every one that leaves to a competitor, they gain 1.5, 2, perhaps more, customers in the same timeframe... hence the reason for my suggestion of users banding together to sign a professional letter that is both logical and rational.

Dell is too busy drinking the Kool-Aid to listen to any logical and rational appeal for change. I suspect it would be a waste of time and energy because they are convinced wrong is right and believe in all nonsense. Micro$loth is their "partner" and they value their relationship with them. How nice... So, time to look elsewhere for desirable products to replace their crippled crap.
The Redmond Mafia and their Gestapo tactics with OEM licensing agreements, demanding UEFI firmware compliance and flash protection in exchange for fair pricing, are the root of all evil concerning individual freedom. They have "Appled-out" on us. It is obvious by their push for the filthy Windows 10 OS to be installed by force on every zombie PC on the planet they only care about themselves. They absolutely do care about customers and are totally absorbed with preserving their monopoly through controlling OEMs, and ultimately eliminating anything that resembles freedom and autonomy for end users. They used to be bad boys that we could respect, but now they are just a bunch of Prima Donna panty waists that expect unquestioned obedience and reverence.
By tethering the OEMs (and us) with a shiny gold ring securely attached to out collective digital scrotum, they establish themselves, through force, as an illegitimate god, dictator, and supreme ruler. They coat it with sugar, pretend it has something to do with security and expect us to believe that it is because of their undying love for us that we don't have to fear the binary boogie man. I might have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.
I used to have tremendous respect for them, but I have never wanted to see a company fail as much as I want to see it happen to Micro$haft. I hope they end up so absorbed in legal battles that they don't have any time, money or resources left to worry about controlling us "keeping us safe" any more. -

I find the vocal outcry interesting myself. I have been saying the same thing about Google for years and no one seems to care about them doing it. They do everything MS is doing now and more but I bet most of the people complaining about Win10 have an Android phone, use Gmail, browse with Chrome and search with Google. Not just on these boards but in general.
I don't like the direction they have gone at all and have voiced it on numerous windows based discussion boards but for people who love Google to be complaining about MS now, seems well asinine.
Regardless of how evil MS is starting to become, there is a difference between them and Google, and it's a big one. The difference is that MS makes money off of software, hardware, cloud and enterprise, licensing windows to OEM's and so on. Google does not make one dime on any of that.
They are not a software company and Android is free of charge even to the OEM's. They make no money on hardware because they don't make any of their own. Any enterprise services they have are powered by other services. And so on. They only way, the 1 single thing Google makes money on is their users info. That is it. Not counting govt grants, ads or other weird projects they may be working on like their balloon internet or whatever. Their only money making product is their users info.
It's a completely difference business model and one that at least as of now, is much worse for the consumer than what MS is doing. Now, at the rate MS is going, that may not be the case soon. But as of now, as bad as they are, they are still not even close to what Google has and is currently doing. And yet, the world loves Google. -
@Awhispersecho
Yep, you're not wrong. Google tend to get everyone onboard with convenience. I use to try really hard to keep my anominity - using Startpage and other browsers etc. I think Google drive sucked me in. -

The magnitude to which Windows 10 Malware Edition sucks goes way beyond telemetry. The loss of end user control, the botched up UI and reduction in performance compared to Windows 8.X and even more loss of performance compared to Windows 7 are all inexcusable flaws in the worst operating system they have released since Windows Millenium Edition. They've had two years to get it right since I first started using Windows 10 as part of the Insider program and it's still a gigantic piece of crap. I have no reason to believe it will get better in time with these control freak imbeciles calling the shots. I have a zero tolerance policy for them acting like Nazis, making decisions for me about updates and limit my abilities to have control over everything. -
Awhispersecho Notebook Evangelist
Yeah, that's where my issues are. Not the info they are gathering because I have less of an issue with them having my info than I do Google. My issue is the control. I have a problem with authority anyway so I don't like anyone telling me what to do let alone a company I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars supporting with the purchase of their products. Whether, it's computers, Xbox, phones, software. You name it I have bought it. I completely disable all windows updates.
I wrote a very lengthy and scathing post /letter on their uservoice and sent it to them as well a few months back. I should send it to you. It's funny, I am an insider too. Been using Win 10 on the PC and on one of my phones for a while. Gets confusing though sometimes. I have a variety of PC's and tablets running, 7, 8.1 and 10 as well as phones running 8.1 and 10. Not to mention a Blackberry Passport because I just love that phone. Wish I could hack it and put another OS on it.
Even funnier that as far as info and upsetting the NSA and their Muppets, they would be interested in me for the same reasons as you. But still, I see headlines all over the place about MS stealing your info and never a mention about Google. That's what my issue is.Mr. Fox likes this. -

I have never expected greatness from Google, and they do not act (as much) like evil Nazi dictators. If I want to use a different browser, another search engine, go incognito and use ad-blockers, they let me. Easy come, easy go. But, we have come to expect greatness from Micro$loth. And, they used to deliver great products. We were OK with them making money the old fashioned way... earning it by selling good stuff. Now they take what they want without permission and we're supposed to be happy and admit that it feels good to be touched in private places even when we don't want to be? Ah, no... I don't think so. Ah, yeah, but it's in the EULA, so it's OK. Um... I don't think so.
It's kind of like how we look at a demented piece of trash that gets strung out on drugs and steals to support their addiction, or serial killers and rapists that are driven by demented passions, demons, mental illness, or just plain evil people, in a different light than we look at school teachers, priests and policemen that molest children, or pillars of the community and politicians that do all manner of terrible things when they think nobody is watching them. The severity of their crimes are exactly the same, but the level of contempt for the once trusted perpetrators is on a totally different level. We expect better from the latter and we are outraged more when our respect, admiration and trust is violated in a sinister manner. Google is like the former and Micro$loth the latter. They deserve to be hated for their violations against the PC Master Race, and they will be.
If I can no longer make all of my own decisions and do whatever I feel like doing with my PC hardware, firmware and its software, then there is one less reason to choose Windows over OS X. If having superior hardware doesn't matter, then choosing a Windows option is even less relevant. We can buy really nice crippled BGA turdbooks from Apple. At least it's not a plastic turdbook.Ashtrix likes this. -

you still get a prompt that you have to accept. It has 3 options, they are ok, later or you can "x" out. Ok and later are nice and big, the option to close out and dance, not so much. It's sneaky and dirty for sure, most people don't pay attention to the fine print and just accept and move on, that is essentially what this is. And I agree with Mr. Fox, I like the old MS business model much better, I do expect better from them and it is very disappointing. I hear Linux Mint is pretty decent now. If I ever go anywhere else, that's where it will be. Won't go near Apple or Google. The reasons are different, but my hatred for both is equal.
