This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    It's funny because when (if) windows 7 support is discontinued (security patches), I will move to OSx86, since Linux is not mainstream enough to have decent support as of now. Maybe that will change in the future.

    Linux is fine, awesome even, for the mundane stuff most consumer would use a 'el cheapo' tablet, iPad, or an Acer or Dell Inspiron laptop for. There's nothing to hate about it. I really like Mint Linux. It looks very polished and everything from a hardware perspective works pretty nice. The UI is nowhere nearly as ugly as Windows 8 or Windows 10.

    However, using Linux for a gaming or benching rig sucks big time. The selection of really great Linux game titles is pert-near non-existent and the selection of overclocking tools and commonly accepted benchmarks is too small to even move the needle a hair off of the "E" peg on the gauge. And, I'm sure it is majorly lacking in support for most business applications as well. Great OS... extremely sucky software support.
