Yeah its a sick device, small sleek and PORTABLE. Its really a great portable package, no need to break your back
-
Some of whom i never found em posting their problems at all (not just in this thread.. but anywhere around in this forum) :|
But still people who are really pissed off are pretty low.. than what i thought earlier.
--
i ll be okay with minor issues like click or tht fan..
but i seriously hope i dont get BSOD issue with my piece
next thing tht ll off me ll be the screen issues.. -
-
And even then - you could argue that the 8% is a bit bloated due to the fact that, in general, most people don't go out of their way to voice their approval for a product.
@ DR650SE - yes - I agree. The more I use it - the more I'm really amazed at the overall build/feel/performance of the laptop. It's still amazing that there's a system of this form factor (and don't bring in all of those 13"-14" comparisons -they're NOT the same) that performs at a desktop level, while giving all the benefits and capabilities of a 10"-11" netbook.
It's still a bit "quirky" - though a lot of that is really software/bios configuration. I think this thing will really scream once they put out a newer video driver and an updated BIOS. -
@kel = I pressed on the hinge a bit, cause being an ex-tech its common to have like loose plastic clips on laptop surface parts, so we gently squeeze to check and all. got the clicking, squeezed it a few times and the clikies are gone!
Now I want an m15x to go with my Awesome
Both hinges actually click when you squeeze em, only the one on the right happens to click when you open it. Strange but as long as it ain't broken. Now... Someone fix my l4d2... T_T

It's not hard to imagine people not being happy. There are 2 main reasons that come to mind. One is build issues (ie not being shipped a cosmetically perfect system, crappy screen issues, etc). When someone with OCD like myself notices an issue, there is just no getting around it. For instance, when my right hinge squeeks, I am hypersensitive to it. It's like a bear is scratching its nails down a chalkboard. Thankfully my OCD is very slight and I am surrounded by enough noise 99% of the time to not hear it. Another is just not having the performance they thought they would out of the M11x.
Some people are getting this laptop expecting it to be their one and only stop for everything which it should not be. It is meant to be the top of the line in ultraportable goodness which means for on the go or when space is limited. A desktop computer would out perform this laptop for half the cost easy and it should when you are not limited to the 2 previously mentioned constraints.
I mostly use my desktop computer for everything. Maybe 1/5 of the time I am using the M11x (ie. school and work). -
Yea a lot of those who are unhappy voters never post anything, so it's not beyond imagination that some of the nay sayers might just be haterz
-
-
Hence the "some" in my comment. I'm not saying that all M11X's are perfect or problem free. Thats obvious naive and false. It's obviously a small notebook with a weak CPU, which was never a secret, but part of the attraction, ie, battery life. Granted when you ship out 1000's of notebooks, theres going to be a range of problems and delays. Dells a bg company and at time support is lacking. It's reasonable to expect customers who are not satisfied.
-
After spending about 6 hours on the phone. I was done.
-
Wow, sorry to hear that. That does really suck. I'm suprised they didn't. Can't say I blame you for shying away from Dell. I havn't had any bad experiences so far, but I also don't let thier techs work on my stuff. Havn't had the need *knock on wood* What kind of problems did you have anyway?
-
Wow, 90% satisfaction rate on the forums. Not bad at all, especially when you consider that a lot of people only go onto forums to complain about a product!
-
Okay!
I finally got my m11x after 10 days since i ordered
Its wonderful.. i OCed it immediately and no BSODyeah!!!
Tweaking around with it.. and its awesome!!
I have a small red dead pixed.. but it seams red pixel(only visible on black background) is curableanyways its not bad.. and i didnt notice it untill everything is black ..
Only complaint is the fan.. its not tht quiet even in the intel mode.. i mean even after restart..its not quiet..
but its not tht noise as in Nvidea mode.
I hope they fix it soon.
But my final opinion is "This thing is Awesome!" -
I think today is my last day to return my M11X to Dell. I'm really on the fence. I picked up a 14" Sony CW with the NVidia 330 (512MB) which when overclocked runs faster and at lower temps then the M11X. The CW also has an i5 CPU and space for a SSD and HDD (if I remove the optical drive). I really do love the aesthetics, backlit keyboard, size and battery life of the M11X. If they would just update the BIOS and fix the fan on the M11X I think I'd keep it. I haven't voted because I love the M11X in most every way but the fan kind of kills it for me.
-
keep it, my wife has the CW and this pisses all over it, dell will fix the bios.
-
You know I just might keep it. I just took and plugged it into my 27" iMac's Mini DisplayPort input/output and it is pretty great being able to run the M11X on a 2560x1440 IPS display. You need a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable but it works great.
Neil,
What don't you like about the CW? I think they are both great machines. -
It seems to me most of the unhappy owners got a badly built laptop then stuck into infinitely long loop in Dell customer "care"... -
Does anyone else find it suspicious at all that many of the people that voted "regret buying this" haven't ever made a single post about the m11x?
-
Happy owner.. but getting a replacement sent out to me due to fan and gap issues.
-
As for me I'm pretty satisfied with the machine. I can game on the go with this machine! -
I love this little monster of a laptop. Everything is great except the fan issue as others have mentioned. I'm still going to keep it but sure hope Dell/AW fixes the fan issue. Some people dont notice the issue because they have head phones on, in a noisy environment or playing games.
-
the crap thing about this laptop is that there are no lights around the touchpad like the 15" and 17" models...
-
i thought only the 17x had the lights around the touchpad

After ten days, I am still happy with that little gem. It is way better than my old LG P310! It runs cooler, the screen is better, keyboard and speekers too!
The only negative point is the fan bug. But I hope / think, Alienware will fix it with a BIOS update.
Greets,
Sascha -
yup.. fan noise is really buggin me.. the more i try i try to ignore the noise.. the more i actually concentrate on it.
damn! -
I just got mine last friday. so far love it.
couple of issues, but I will post for some help. -
-
Love my m11x. For all the quirks everyone complains about I don't see as a big deal. But then again, I got really lucky with no dead pixels, bsod's, creaking hinges, etc. The fan is kind of weird, but oh well. No biggie.
-
Am I the only one with a behaving fan lol? I swear mine is never on on IGP unless I'm running OCCT but then it shuts off. Going to the 335m it's always on gaming or only on when it's "hot" during idle (rarely). Going back to IGP will make the fan cool for 5 minutes or so and then it's off again. I know it's not just me not noticing either.
-
-
Your fan behavior change because of your new TIM villosa?
-
Even before that I've never experienced odd fan behavior. I just left the 335m after playing ME2 for 1.5 hours and the fan ran while the temps were 41C down to 39C, then stopped. Hasn't come on since.
Temps now down to 33C using passive cooling+NC2000 -

wow lots of people own this unit.... poll has way more votes than I expected.
-
Well this is just fantastic...best buy since my Toshiba (2005) I've been with pretty much 3 laptop babes till now I finally found my true love ^^ . One little annoyance is that being Canadian born, my babe doesn't have bluetooth like her American siblings -.-
-
So far I really like mine. the only problem with mine is that the fan tends to throttle on and off if I use it for an extended amount of time. Is it because I'm leaving it lying on a desk?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
Very happy, even though I have had problems, and they are sending me a new unit, still very very happy.
-
I hope I will be one of the very happy owner after I get mine and know that there is no problems with it.
-
Got mine on friday and gotta say im really pleased, no issues with build quality, benchmarked on 3dmark 06 and scored about 6200 on battery at 1.73
Haven't experienced a bsod as of yet, i mean do bsods usually occur within 10 mins or something or after like 2 hours of gaming? havnt had a gaming session yet.
Fan on integrated isnt so bad not as loud as my 15" lappy, on discrete the fans on more or less constantly but ahwell something i can live with no louder than any other gaming laptop
Just gotta add the lights are awesome -
Just for anyone who's considering a M11x i wanted to post and say that i really dig mine.
Plays my games, does what i need and looks good too.
i've had 0 problems/issues.... -
I found it to be a pretty neat toy, but it didn't game all that well and was pointless.
I think if it were priced better it would be worth it but not the way it is currently configured. -
Well I guess it depends for whom. For me, for example, seems pretty nice and fits exactly to what I need. I won't always be playing THE newest games there on the market so I think it will last a bit.
I know what you mean, desktops built what 1-2 years ago can get 12k 3DMark06 this thing is 7k max with GPU overclock. CPU isn't all that powerful, but it does hold for quite a while if you're in power savings mode.
It looks pretty sexy for me (again personal preference, I just love the futuristic style more rather than plain ol' borin' business black).
Definitely the worst thing about it, I barely studied at all for my exam since I got this laptop. I just love this thing. -
Too funny..... -
http://www.aubatteries.com.au/computer-accessories/bluetooth-wifi-lan-card.htm
7 phillips head screws on the bottom of the m11x, Pop it into the empty WWAN slot, plug the two antennas in from the Dell half-pcie card, then remove the Dell half-pcie wireless card and you are set. Internal bluetooth and wireless n just like everybody else! -
-
I,m thinking about buying one, what do you guys think about it? As a beast on the go, since my M15x doesnt move much
-
I would wait for a refresh with i-core CPU's, whenever that may be.
-
Yeah thats what I thought, I wont buy it before this summer anyway, but damn I like it's style 8D
-
It's got a love it or hate it style.
I was going to jump on the current model but decided to wait, it's exactly what I expected and most owners are pleased with there units, but I decided to wait for a more updated CPU.
Wish they would hurry up. >_< -
Its an 11.6 inch platform but you want it to run like the 17 inch platform.
You will pay the 17 inch price I'm sure also.
Alienware/Dell have hit it out of the ball park with this notebook with all around great performance, and look feel any true enthusiast would enjoy. You can take it anywhere with an amazing price point.
I-X Processor may have better instructions but Its not going to be some huge game changer of technology that will grant you 100 FPS running Crysis.
I love my m11x and nothing else comes close
