hang on, thats not true, 720p is 1280x720, 1080p is 1920x1080
these are TV rez's nothing to do with PCs, its just how they measure them for TVs. 900p is not 720p its just 1480x900

Disable as in permanently or just to run 3dmark ?

I uninstalled all AW's software since i dont find use for them, thats including the facial recognition program.

As for the fingerprint software, you can either remove it through msconfig (perm) or end the process called pdtwzd.exe (if you want to disable it till the next restart).

This is more of a gripe than a question, however, on 12/10 I ordered my M17 online with its fair share of bells and whistles and found out today (12/26) that it has just entered phase 7. I completely understand that things can happen, items may not be up to par, that worker really just doesn't care due to holiday excitement...w/e. But it is frustrating to see some of you buy after and receive before myself. I am trying to be patient but when speed and intensity are your "staples" of everyday living...it becomes hard. I have called and have been politely assured that they are doing everything possible to ensure that speed, without sacrificing quality, is their priority.
:\ just venting my jealousy for all of you so i don't blow something useful...like a blood vessel
    .

go into your command center (press the spaceship button above your keyboard), choose "Sense", and then move the slider all the way to the left (where it'll say "Deactivated"). that should turn off the facial login feature. to re-enable the feature, simply move the slider back to right to wherever you had it before.

Just remove your PW @ User Account

I am not quite sure if this is the only solution but you can stop "This Software" be started with vista e.g. by using the "msconfig". There you can decide wich programm "is allowed" to start with Vista.

    Greetings

i don't think that would work, i have disabled UAC and the login password, but still was able to use facial login (until i deactivated it in the CC because it took too d*mn long to boot up etc).

i'm finally home, and as expected my m17 has been waiting for me for a few days now. first thing i noticed was that i didn't receive my alienware mousepad. oh well i guess. then turned it on and also noticed that the backlight keyboard is as weak as some people have reported. then i checked the my computer properties and noticed that the cpu is recognized as a q9300 2.53 ghz instead of a qx9300 2.53 ghz. so far other than these i've stated...it's a pretty impressive machine. now i'm gonna try to find out if the built in windows vista ultimate extras include an imaging software.

when you guys run 3dmark06 do you run it at 1920x1200 or 1280x1084? cause i ran it at 1084 and got 12318 3dmark06 and then ran it at 1200 and got a measly 10339 3dmark06. this is all pre e-wrecked's ati 8.12 modded drivers, which i will be installing later. i just want to get 1400-1500+ 3dmark06 scores...

Did you mean you are trying to get an extra 1,400-1,500 points, or you are trying to get 14,000-15,000 3DMarks? Depending on your configuration, the latter may not be achievable.

when I rest my palm on the right side by the fingerprint thing, it makes a pop noise, and cannot reproduce the pop noise until like 15 minutes later. 2 of my m17 has that. It's the chassis.

Additionally, the top right corner where the plastic piece that covers the LEDs, it can constantly create a pop noise when I press it. Same for both m17.

OK, I have a question for you experts. The QX9300 is an extra $350 from either the Q9100 or the X9100. I can afford the extra bucks, but I don't think I would really benefit from it. I'm not a gamer, but I want fast processing for real time stock charting and a little video editing.

So for the same money which would you go for, the X9100 or the Q9100? Or should I just spend the money and get the QX9300 any way?

Note: I'm not too concerned about future-proofing since I'll probably get an new one in 2 to 3 years any way.

okay i think i want to flash my bios, i dont have too much experience with OC'ing but i do want to be very careful at what i'm doing. i want to get my qx9300 to about 3ghz. not trying to go too far beyond that, and i'm not too interested in oc'ing the 3870s or anything either. but since i've been hearing that these 3870 crossfirex graphic cards are very cpu dependant, i think having the qx9300s at 3ghz instead of 2.53 will give me the 3dmark06 scores where i want them to be.

Quit trying to scare him. BIOS flashes don't just go bad for no reason. Make good and sure you're using the BIOS from E-Wrecked's tutorial. Also do make sure that your battery is fully charged.

yah...if you use 2 x 4gb sticks....of course you'd need a 64 bit OS to make use of it...I think 8gb is pretty expensive at the moment though...

I figured the same....4 gigs should do the trick for the next while, and I intend to flash with the OCZ BIOS eventually and unlock that x9100 as well....I think this machine should last a bit, it better....over 4k Canadian $$$!!! I think I'm gonna sell my 9750 once the new beast has landed, soften the blow a little...maybe on eBay...
I was blessed during the phase game when I got this 9750 last year, it went super quick and I got the laptop earlier than projected - here's to hoping for more of the same luck...

    I'm stoked.
