no, the GPUs are not soldered, they're connected via MXM slots. however, one GPU has a MXM-III slot, the other a MXM-HE slot (which is better, e.g. can power faster cards).

Pardon my stupidity everyone. Would anyone have a clue what the battery life would be on this puppy...for anyone who has the OCZ Whitebook? Also, are you be able to disable one of the graphics card for just minor browsing and conserving of battery power? Thanks!

Edit: Sorry all... I just realized I posted this on the owners lounge...hopefully someone can still answer my question?...hehe.

First day they announced, I think around... 4-6 PM? Somewhere around that time frame....

It was sorta funny 'cause I went to bed the night before and was like "sigh... suppose i'll order the x15 tomorrow...." and I woke up and saw that the 15" one had gone down by 200 dollars even though I hadn't made any of the specs different from last night... so I checked the front page and there was the M17... The email didn't come about the new model till tonight... lol

Off hand when AW announced their m15x/17x series back in November 2007, when did the actual assembly production take place..I noticed the bios of one on Ebay saying 3/2007 so I was really curious..

Running Gunner and mhooper (Dont "look at the ocz forum" me. I basically started the OCZ WB fad here at NBR. Check the last two threads.) have overclocked their quads with tremendous help with Mark from K|N.
Judging by your posts I doubt youll manage 16K, let alone 15.5K.

And don't you get it? Alienware is not letting you overclock. It will VOID your warranty.

    The review is pretty lame.

He forgot to add in the sentence of "$1999 is way closer to $1350,the Gateway, than the $6000".

He also forgot to mention that the M17 are using P8600 compare to x9000 of M17x and still manage to score close FPS, where their best bang for the bucks can ONLY score 58 fps. And keep in mind that M17 only cost 50% more than the gateway and score more than 50% fps, now who is best bang for the bucks? 58 fps is not respectable compare to 109. And keep in mind that M17x is $6000.

The battery test is obvious for Dual video card. Other tests are in line of what I expected. It's just his comments haven't gone thru his brain first.
$6000 > $1999 > $1350, if the M17 can performed closer to the $6000 one than the $1350, it's already best deal. And keep in mind that, he didn't mention you can get a X9100 and it will beat M17x in every aspects and way less than $3000.

Cnet is lame as usual. What do you guys think? Am I bias?

Not a bad review, IMO. More or less what I expected. They just left out some important facts. I don't even know why they would mention a $6000 m17x when they're reviewing a $1999 m17...

Because they can't find another one that beats m17? But then they forgot to mention it cost 3 times as much and score similar fps.

At least his test confirms M17 is one hell of gaming machine 109 fps is quite good.

I find it to be a disappointing and completely biased review. They don't even mention that the design is based off of the OCZ. If AW never went with the OCZ to make the m17, their laptop wouldn't even get a review. And their test suggest that the M17x beats the M17 in gaming when according to AWs own website, it's the opposite.

I know Chaz can do a much better review then that.

First of all , you DON'T freaking compare a X9000 with a P8400. The m17x specs are MAXED as for the M17 they had, it was on budget ! The only option i see that they picked up was 1gb of extra ram and dual 3850 mode. Is it freaking dumb or what? He could of compared at least with something closer like an Asus or something. You don't compare 2 laptops from the same company and they talks sht abt it. I agree with fusion...The m17 at 1999$ is like 25% suckier than the m17x at 6000$? What was the guy smoking geez.

-CNET = Garbage , they only favors HP and sht like that

I am sad now, it's still at phase 5 for 2 days.

How long does it take for a person to build a laptop? 1 hr?
Let say you are slow and do good work, double the time. let say 2 hrs?
Let say you take 5 coffee breaks a day and chat with girls and sms alot, 4 hrs?
Let say you are dumb *** and don't know how to build computer and still need to read off the manual, 6 hrs?
But it seems dell and aw is taking longer than that. So what kind of people working in there?

If it's assembly line, then would it be faster?

I just called again to AW to ask them very nicely to adjust the price for me, since the price has been keep on dropping.

AW CS rep is so nice, and give me another price adjustment. And there is no wait time to talk the CS, unlike Dell.

So far, my experience with AW is the best I ever have with computer companyies.

So do you guys know if there is an open HDD slot when we get these? or did you have to order the smart bay to get one?

Edit: Oops, I said smart bay but there isn't that option, just Raid... So I assume that there is an open slot for an extra HDD, no?

Basically your NB won't boot with out it. No RAM, no workee.

Everything in your NB uses RAM to store instructions, shortcuts and anything else it can think off. Your OS loads alot of stuff into RAM when it boots up. Your GPU has it's own ram to do this so it won't hog all the system RAM. That's why the more RAM and the more faster RAM in your system, the better. In theory.

LOL, sorry, I was referring to the post before mine.
He was saying the HP has same CPU, but the HP has 1 more gb of ram which might be the reason for HP faster than m17 in those benches.

Thx anyways for tell me how ram works, even though I am a computing scientist.

yup. 2gigs of RAM increase the chance by 12.8%, while 4gigs will give you a boost of 31.9%. if you splurge on 8gigs and a 64bit OS, the probability skyrockets to 95.4%, so that's really the way to go.

I dunno whizzo, 1066 RAM gives you a 20% boost in chances of getting laid. So 4GB RAM should be enough. Corsair has a reputation in getting people getting laid, call them :).

Oh and 7200rpm HDDs are able to get you laid faster than 5400rpm drives, keep that in mind :D

Ontopic: cnet was good before, but since their popularity has skyrocketed, their reviews and blogs have become biased BS. Dont ever trust Dan Ackerman the ugly man with the lisp.

three 7200rpm HDDs in LAID will give a 99% chance of getting laid.
