both slots i am told are exactly the same. the cards are also the same. the ONLY difference is that one is flashed with a master bios and one is flashed with a slave bios. nothing more..

 

So would anyone know how to put a key back into the keyboard?

My y key was stuck, it had something under it and i couldn't get to it or shake it off, so i had to pop the key, now i can't put it back.

Push firmly, and at an angle. Edge the bottom of the key into place then roll the top down.

 

well i got my M17 and downloaded WoW and for some reasion the shadows flicker and so does the lightning. If you know what im talking about help me out, what do i need to fix on the video card.

 

what's your specs? do you have raid enabled?

 

I had a chance to run some benchmarks on my m17 - according to AW my machine scored 15k during testing...I couldn't crack 14k myself...not sure why though.
The temps seemed to be pretty stable...
I also installed and played some cod4 last night as well, running maxed it it worked great!

I haven't updated any drivers or anything...it just as it was out of the box.

I'm a happy camper...the machine is solid and works good, there will be opportunity to upgrade so I think I'm going to enjoy this laptop for awhile.

 

Yeah.. 14k should be about par @ 3.06GHz - Maybe they were running it at a lesser resolution, 1200x800? That would make sense, but otherwise you wont break 15k unless it's overclocked. Youre system is legit! Congrats on the purchase by the way! You'll love it!

I think I'm gonna leave it as is for awhile...maybe after the new video drivers are released I'll go ahead and flash with the OCZ BIOS and try some overclocking to see what I can squeeze out of her...

Yes.. All 3 antennas are there. It's an easy upgrade to the 5300.

 

they are on ebay for 40 or 50 bucks. its a 10 min install max. alienware shows you how to do it on thier site.

 

Hey, Is it possible when running dual monitor mode to run 2 different resolutions, 1 higher than the other can support, (while in clone mode) or do they strictly have to be the same or at least compatible resolutions on both monitors? I think there may be something I just don't know about.
For instance on my desktop 8800gt I can run in clone 1680 x 1050 and it will display a compatible res on the tv even tho it doesn't do that res. 1440 x 900 is the best it will do I think.

EDIT: I can get my tv into 1400x1050.
I think I'm trying to make custom resolutions for each, can I do that?

 

I have the T9400, I've gotten about 11,800 3D Mark06 scores. I had about 89 processes running at the time and i did not shut off aero.

 

WHoo I got the t 9400 to but the wifi upgrade doesn't void warrenty right thanks again 2 days till it gets here

 

be careful doing the wifi. you must remove the touch buttons panel over the keyboard and the keyboard to do the job.

PLEASE be sure to remove the 2 screws under the notebook on the very corners before trying to remove the plastic above the keyboard.. also there is a screw under the keyboard. remove the whole bottom plate and you will see it in front of the gpu fan small silver one.. or the keyboard will not come out

 

Alienware has on thier support page how to remove it. it shows step by step with pictures. its real easy to do and the instructions are great. reads like an army manual

If you turn the PowerPlay in CCC to max battery, then it saves you a good bit of power from the GPUs. And, if ya go Power Saver on Vista then you should get a good 2 hours of continuous use. I found power saver to be VERY sluggish..so I ran balanced with the Power Play set to max battery and it gave me close to 2 hours.. maybe 1:45 - we have different CPUs though. Don't worry..you'll be able to try it out tomorrow!

EDIT: Oh, power saver also slows down the Wifi connection..which I didn't like.

Power savings puts your Wifi on max power savings.. uses less power, hence weaker signals..

 

Well with CCC set to max battery life, my bluetooth and wifi off, and my screen set to third lowest setting I get about 2 hr 20 min.

Just called into Alienware HQ here in Miami down the street from my house they confirmed, they will have ATI 4870's x2 soon,

I am not going to wait for the i7 Core, going with a T9600 or a Quad Core, leaning towards the

T9400, or T9600 because they are 45nm dies which I can later swap with the T9900 which is still not realsed when they are super cheap. i7 Core will make all chips drop in price fast.

Man dual 4870's I am gonna kill 3D Mark

i would be a bit more concerned with killing 3dmark vantage than 3dmark06.... if it fails at vantage, it will technically fail in most modern games as well. (fail meaning=not perform to projected specs by the current user)

 

8gb of ram is more than a g for these computers. and not worth it yet.

 

Yes you can and ordering the x2 4870's should not be all that costly, I hope they do some sort of 3870 buy back or trade in credits

I am here in Miami near Alienware HQ and have a few buddies who are mole insiders I'll see what news I can squeeze out of them but they don't have high level access plus they are girls who could really give two craps about straberrys vs 4870's vs. a new LV Purse.


But their info is rock solid.

Besides ask 2 people in Miami and someone knows someone who works at Alienware.

Heck I went 2 weeks ago and got some swag at the HQ gift shop.

Some folks just like the idea of big numbers. And, those big numbers would come at a BIG price. He'll realize that when the bill runs up to $5600, he may not need more than 4GB of RAM, for his "free" Win7 - and maybe that backpack, extra battery, cooling pad, MS Software suite, etc. may not really be a necessity. Not saying you can't afford it, just saying you may wanna stop thinking with such ideas of grandeur.

 

And then another laptop will come out and crush your scores, and you're gonna go cry to mommy?

Technology is always becoming outdated fast. As long as I know my graphics card can hold itself up for a while I could care less if you get 20,000 or more cause in a couple of months someone will reach 30 or 40,000.

You're also not cooler for getting this cheap or with 6 gbs.
