no i had it set to max performance in CC so ooooo man it like watchign your baby die ...... my heart is still pounding and it has been 10 mins lol.

But to update my M17 is running perfectly and my cooling is super (max 77c)
i have no lag in any games with the 2 gigs of ram and t9400 is running game perfectly and all components are working and the gpu got a boost with the werid drivers i found

but i would definitely buy this again BTW 1440 FTW

I saw my gpu temps creep up to 84 degrees while playing cod4 online this evening...not sure if I want to see it go much higher than that. I played for about 1.25h to get to that temp, and that was was just the recorded max...
This machine is a beast. E-Wrecked's drivers are the bomb, I am super happy with the rig...as long as the clock stops screwing up.

 

Yea my temps go up to 84c at max too. Then fans kick in and goes around 75c

Max temps ive seen my m17 go so far was 100~c but i think i was my bad cause i was a) using a pillow as a cooler and b) covered by mistake both ways the air comes out (thats gaming in bed for you ).

 

lmao ... i took the cover off a oldddd full ATX desktop tower and drilled holes in it and put it on that when i game in bed ...temps stay low ... i would crap my shorts if i saw 100c

 

Almost 99% of the time i have HWMonitor running in the background when im gaming. So when i hear loud fan noises or see weird fps drop i just quickly press the window key and check the temps

So at that time my fps in CoD4 went down to around 40ish instead of 100+ which looked a bit strange. Instantly minimized the game and saw the temps, was like "eeek" Waited a bit for the temps to go down since when the game is minimized it doesnt put too much pressure on the gfx card, moved the sheets a bit since they were blocking the air exits and continued the game

 

lol when i run fall out at fullscreen my windows key doesnt minimize i guess i have to run it in windowed mode ...\

man you dont let 100c temp lag you out you just move n GO! lol i run HWmonitor in the backround to lol speed fan work on here?

EDIT-- speedfan sucks on the m17 temps are not right there like 5-9 c lower then hw monitor and it doesnt detect them all

 

If the windows key doesnt work use ctrl + esc got that problem as well sometimes

it's a small, faux-leather binder that contains the handbook, your "alienware agent identity card", and the respawn/install discs for you lappy (i got a "Vista recovery disc", a "Nero Essentials 7" disc, and a "m15x Vista support CD"). mine also had two vinyl-ish stickers in it for the touchpad, not sure if m17 owners get that too.

to hell with that, send my alienware with a different hard drive and fedex, ups,usps, snail mail or what ever the rest!

lol id already sent then an emails say just that i dont mind waiting a week for one of my drives, but 4 weeks for a pigin binder, just put it all in a paper bag and shove down the side of the box.... its the laptop i want ffs.

i had the same problem many moons ago when i brought my m9700 of them, i waited ages for daft stuff then also, id rather them saying look itl take four weeks and thats that, instead of me watching my progrese go up and down for a folder and a hard drive .... feking hard drive having a laff ,laptop building shop and it only got 1 hdd left.

I've got an M17 (since January 3rd or so)
I opted for the P8400, since I intend to upgrade later.
Ordered a single 320GB, but ordering a 2nd in a few minutes.
Dual 3870's, of course.


And I didn't get the lighted keyboard, although I'm kinda regretting that now. I may contact OCZ to see about ordering one. I actually hate the keyboard layout by the number pad as it's not what I'm used to, and the lack of home key raised dots really messes with me. I'm thinking of putting 2 super glue dots there to alleviate that problem.


BTW, has anyone else's matte finish started flaking off?

 

i have one little chip no major ones, its on the corner and i would get the alienware keyboard it is much nicer then the OCZ one , AW will sell it to you

Hey guys! I ordered and got my m17 with the "Internal Digital / Analog (ATSC) TV Tuner with Adapter", hoping that I would easily connect my wii to my m17, but I can't figure out how to do so. The wii does not have an hdmi output, but an output with AV cable. Any solution?

 

lol the hdmi is a output not a input , you need to get a rf modulater it lets you connect a coxail input with av inputs

dbl post.. I vote we sticky this thread anyhow. It slipped to pg 2 for the first time. That's just not right.

 

got the alienware keyboard installed and its nice. i have to say they lighting is MUCH better on the ocz version. much more consistant and even throughout the aw one is kinda spotty in places and certain keys are more lit than others.. its a lot more even on the ocz one. they both feel the exact same typing on them and the aw plugs right into the ocz and visa versa.

 

That one of the few things i do not like on the M17. The keyboard lighting was much better on the M17X i had previously.

 

I think the lighting on the OCZ is quite nice.. The M17x was blaring bright.. the OCZ is tamed down a little bit. But, I like the amount of light output. And, it is VERY evenly distributed. From Caps lock to Key Pad, I don't have any dark spots..all keys are equally illuminated, and overall I'm satisfied. I still like the AW look, with the lil squares around the keys

 

ok just got my m17, everything looks good. So far i overclocked my t9400 to 2.85ghz and have the ddr3 at 1200 with cl 888-20 timings. gonna benchmark soon. I can hit over 3ghz but i need to adjust the ram timings and memset wont let me, it just crashes the laptop and restarts it?

 

Just ordered an m17 couple days ago, already on phase 9! it went from phase 8 to 9 last night, how many days will it take to get to my house?

ok here is my 3dmark 06 score with my cpu at 2.85ghz and my GPU's at STOCK speeds

well thats tough. the 8.12's imo are the more stable driver. the 9.1's seem to be better overall for gaming but they have a few issues that cause other problems. imo i would personally use the 8 series myself right now. i like the 9.1's i really do but they just dont seem to play nice yet with the system.

you can try the newest beta 8.12's specifically for mobility if you want to also. ill be playing with them later lmk if you need the link

 

..if you're interested in OC'ing the GPUs then you'll need to use 8.10 or less. The stock AW drivers should work well. I have found 8.10 to be extremely stable for benches and 8.12 for gaming. Still not a 9.1 Fan

 

Nice overclocks Halo, score is a bit better than a typical T9600 equipped system. I think going from DDR31066 to 1333 should give you a bit more overclocking room to hit the 3ghz mark.

Also, let me know when you want me to send payment for the keyboard.

 

I'm still trying to figure out hot to get ATi Overdrive to work with the newer drivers. I almost had it when I used the plain mobilily modder; I installed the GPU drivers before installing Catalyst. That seemed to work, but windows didn't recognize the primary card, so I was stuck at 800x600 @ 8 bit and couldn't change anything.
