do you have vsync enabled? maybe hes going from 60 to 30 because vsync

 

after playing ultra high 1280 for 2 hours my master was 70c and the slave was 61 max temp that was a shooting scene ... the frame rates do not go down they stay lowwwww i have v sync disabled

 

what game is this again? also dont always trust frapps sometimes it screws up, see if the game has a built in fps command in the engine

 

is the FN+F11 button supposed to turn the media key lights?

 

lol fraps is right i lag so badddddd i can barley move it looks bout like 5 fps i just ran it again in 1440 windowed mode with high detail and it didnt lag i never got below 25 fps

and pumaro i think it just disable them but i could be wrong and there is a thread btw any one got the media buttons to light up yet?

so bottom line, for gaming, is 1440x900 enough for a 17inch a screen? i dont want it to be too blurry. i have a 28inch monitor at 1920x1200 and i think its perfect, so would 1440x900 for a 17inch be very good?

 

well fallout 3 is all i have now except aoe2 lol cant find my halo 1 the 1440 looks amazing on my laptop and i prefer it over the 1900 ..... there is no blurryness only beauty

 

ok i just mob modded i will see if there is any diff in fall out 3 ..i cant download 3d mark because of my download limit

hi all ive got a question for you all...

ive got still m9700 laptop and should have in cple of weeks my new m17,

i got my daughter a toshiba laptop for xmas and thought it would be powerfull enough to play theme park 3 for something like that, but i dosent play it well,

question.... is it possible to connect both laptops together and put shortcut on my daughters laptop but leave the original program on the new laptop so when she clicks the shortcut it would use my laptops hardrive memory and graphics ect... like a network i suppose.

because i sometime just play poker and stuff and that running in the background wouldnt hurt what im doing..

thanks for any help/ ideas (dont say get her new laptop) lol or give her my m9700 as thats going on ebay... after ive tried putting my 7900gs in the m17 to see if i can have m17 sli?...

 

One 3780 is more powerful than 7900 on SLI

 

Is that because of the shader Cpu's in the 3870. since the nvidia 7-series didnt have any.

 

hmm something popped in my head. Im going for the ddr3 1333 ram modules for the m17, how can it ever run at 1333mhz if the fsb of the cpu is 1066? You would need to overclock the cpu in order to get the ram to run higher than 1066. So besides overclocking, im assuming the ddr3 1333 will run at 1066 correct? if so this would suck. id rather have 1066 modules at cl7 than 1333 modules that run at 1066 but have CL9

 

correct if you are never going to overclock the 1333 will serve you no better purpose than 1066. you could always use memset to set the cl to 7 at 1066

 

does set FSB work on the m17's?

 

yeah.. same PLL and all.

 

so what all can you do .....limits?

 

depends on your board..and RAM, and CPU - but you can overclock em all, including the pci-e(your GPU bus speeds). I tried not to fool with those though, didn't wanna burn out a card.

 

Well I'm about to pull the trigger and ordered my M17. In order to fit my current budget I had to configure it to either a Q9100 and 1 160GB Drive, or a T9800 and a RAID0 500x2 setup. I picked the quad core route of course but was wondering how hard would it be to upgrade it myself to maybe a 250x2 RAID0 come next paycheck? Does upgrading the HDD yourself void it's warranty?

 

upgrading the HDDs will not void your warranty, and is very easy to do.

on a side note, i'm sure you didn't make a huge mistake and order 4Gb RAM from AW, right?

 

Well I didn't order it yet. Thanks good to know it wont void my warranty. Funny you should mention the memory thing. A +$200 upgrade to 4GB seems ridiculous to me. I am ordering 2 250GB Hard Drives and these instead of what AW is offering. All of it comes out to $266 shipped. Plus there is the delicious irony of putting OCZ RAM in an Alienware m17

hi all you lot across the pond and beyond, is your alienware bare bones system price going through the roof, as i was checking my system to see what stage im stuck on now!! but i noticed that the bare system has jumped in the last 2 weeks form 1,050 pounds to today its now 1,237 pounds.

any reason why .... can these things do more and their realizing this and shoving the prices up or what.

also as well to my last post i thought that the 3870s would be faster than 7900gs i just wanted to see if they would work....

and.... how easy will it be to overclock cpu as i didnt even take notice of fsb was only 1066 and i only orderd system with 2 gig of ram ( would have had none if their was an option ) as i also want to put ocz ram into the thing as well... how much fsb increase has any one got out of their machine with ocz ram installed.

 

no idea how far you can over clock but the 3870s are = to 9800 gt

how long does these thing take to arive from day of purchase as i did wait a while for my 9700 but i got it like 3 years ago and i forgot how long it took.

 

It had varied among the M17 users here.

-I received it within 7 days of odering, but Mr.Moo ordered the day my laptop came and it took him weeks to receive the laptop.

Oh my baby finally arrived! 13600 in 3dmark06. I'm impressed. Got the t9600 and only 2Gb ddr3. I wonder how much another 2Gb adds. Well, time to throw this 160gb Hdd in closet and start installing 2xWD 320 Gb 7200rpm in. Lets hope setting up Raid goes without headache from this noob.

If it helps, I have 4GB installed and my system always idles with 1.1GB of usage, leaving 2.9GB free. You would most certainly want 4GB 'cos you don't wanna leave only 900MB free for games and such.

And I waited almost a month!

 

with vista the more ram you have the more it will use..

 

What about W7? Do you know something about this @ W7?

ALRIGHT guys i need some help i wanna install win 7 64 bit but i wanna partition the hard drive but be able to acess both of them while im running in one os.... i know how to partition i use ubuntu live cd for that but how do i get them both to show up

 

go into Disk Management, and rename the Vista Partition's drive letter from within Win7 - then you can see the Vista partition. It won't affect drive naming from within Vista.

 

so who thinks its worth it installing win 7 i just wanted to so i could maybe get some performance gains ..i only have 2 gigs right now . I cut all my excess programs and adjusted for best system performance i average 800mb idle use

ok here it is my story... just happened..


Ok i was gaming on fall out 3 max res Antialising 8 samples anisotropic 15 samples and every thing i could from shadows to what ever on as high it would go ...(testing E-wrecks drivers...and it played 30 fps ) so about 2 hours in ...i was pwning and my screen went black ...i was like ohhh no it crashed...then i was like hummm. Then it just shut off, then i just was like ...then it hit me fried mobo or graphics card. So i checked for heat and it felt kinda hot but was not burning. So i tryied to turn it back on and the light just flashed i was like oh no (my desktop mobo fried one time and it did that) so i unplugged and tried and didnt work, so i felt even worse. Then i opened it up and felt around it felt warm --like 110 degrees so i was like did it just fry???? so i blew on it to cool it down and kept trying ....wouldnt turn on ....i was getting depressed by now. I took out the battery and it was hot so i tried plugging it in with out the battery andddddd bam wouldnt turn on no flashy lights nothing so i was like NO POWER plugged in the ac adapter and booted right back up

turns out when i moved the power adpater it unplugged the end on the transformer, but it didnt come out so it looked fine (the green like was facing down)

ohh god this was so scary and it turns out my gpu's hit 77 c at max

 

lol... I was skeered I broke ur sheit for a minute there.. Im suprised you didnt notice reduced game play from running on battery. Glad I didn't break anything!

 

Hey E! Got the system working now, thanks for helping me out. It´s 8 am and I finally got every single program installed and moved all important files to my lappy from external drive. Man that was a long night. Guess I´ll try gaming tomorrow. :/
