the 6MB cache is crucial.. and GTA is very CPU reliant. Go for the T9500 :) For the money, it's WELL worth it.

I've also read that the hd3870's are a lot more dependant on the cpu than the nVidia cards...so that would be another reason to spring for the stronger cpu...

    It depends on:

-What resolution you want to play it.
-Wether you want to have all DX10 options "on".
-What FPS Rate you are happy with :)

2.16 should handel Crysis 64bit Mode @ 1280x800 with all DX10 but without AA.

With T9400 it looks like this:
17,185 FPS @ 1280x720 everything maxed out ;) (the "Overall Avergave FPS" score means FPS*100)

    Greetings
    Julian

that's a very interesting run you got going on there....

I forgot as ussual to say, that this aren't the real FPS ... this are 17 FPS xD (you have to make a "." after 2 numbers^^)

Thought this is a normal bug @ Crysis Benchmarktool?

Ingame benchmark tool for crysis??? Never heard of one? Ok I thought this tool would be one but if not ... what would be one? I mean ... it starts the game and collects the scores ingame ... why shouldn't this be on ;)

this tool is seriously flawed. we had a big issue over this.

the tool you need is located here:
    c:\program files\electronic arts\crytek\crysis\bin32\benchmark_gpu
    c:\program files\electronic arts\crytek\crysis\bin32\benchmark_cpu

you will need to start the game first and make all your settings here. then save and exit game.
then run the gpu test for your true score.

    c:\program files\electronic arts\crytek\crysis\bin64\benchmark_gpu

Just wondering, since its a Dual 512 MB 3870, does that mean there is around 1 gig total video card memory or still 512?

    Ok
So I can use Shaders Very high, shadows high, and everything else on high

    I will use just anti-aliasing 0x or 2x

and I can use the 32bit version

so can I expect around 24-30 FPS on average if I do that?
Or should I change to WinXP and DX9 if I do that?

Another question, do you know when are the 4870x2 going to be available from Alienware?

So can you tell me your experience with GTA IV?

    Distance, resolution, texture quality?

I know GTA IV only uses 512MB since it is not compatible with CrossFireX or SLI

I have in my desktop SLI GTX 260 Core 216, but only the first 896 MB of VRAM are used

All the other games will use CrossFireX no problem, I guess

So if I buy the 2.53 Ghz, will I be able to overclock it (without compromising stability) to 2.8Ghz?

    That would be awesome

Another question, is there any extra battery out there that lasts 4 hours?

I have one question about the 4870

When is Alienware (or any other company) going to offer 4870 or 4870X2 in their notebooks?

with 1GB of VRAM (I hope), and GDDR5, I hope to be able to play GTA IV

    that would be so awesome

I just noticed a very tiny red dead pixel n the very lower left hand corner of my new M17.

Alienware told me that they would repair it, I told the rep that I would rather have a new one since I have only had it for about week.

He told me to call customer service, which I will do tommorrow.

Question?, should I even bother?, I really dont want them repairing a new notebook, if they say I can have a new one I might take them up on that.

There should'nt be any dead pexils anywhere on a 3K laptop., not sure if I should live with this dead pixel.

I know Alienware's policy on dead pixel's, I have one dead pixel, Alienware has agreed to repair my LCD, which I dont believe I should do so, if they agree to repalce it, I guess I should.

    What do you guys think?

well.. I say send it in if you can't fix it. Does the pixel change colors, or twinkle like a star? There's some software out there that attempts to repair pixels and is about 75% successful. It may be a stuck pixel, not a dead pixel..a dead pixel wouldn't have any color.

    Try this program:
    http://www.jscreenfix.com

    or some of these methods:
    http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Stuck-Pixel-on-an-LCD-Monitor

if they dont work..and dont spend too much time on it - then get it replaced. :)

lemme know how it works out :)

and with jscreen - just move the small box over the affected area and leave for 20-30 minutes..may take longer..but that's average.

I got my new m17, its runs great, but I got 2 questions. I am in constant fear of it overheating, and was wondering what temperature is a high point, where I should shut it down and let it cool(I play wow alot , for many many hours). Also, dont make fun of me people, how do I change the illumination colors on my keyboard, I tried the F10 button already and nothing happens it just stays blue?

to change keyboard colors press "fn" + "f10"

I seem to be topping out around 80 degrees when gaming (COD4, UT3, Bioshock)...I'd be concerned if temps went much higher than that...

No after using the BenchmarkTool I ran the ingame test and it ran all resolutions and the last was 1280x720 with 16xQ and 64bit mode!

At first thought the same like you because ingame you can set max 8 ... but in the "BOX" (you know what I mean?) it says also 16xQ ;)

    Greetings
    Julian

PS: I let it run 4 times and each time it gets lower @ 1280x720 16x@ ;(

You dont need a utility, only a bootable CD or a USB Stick! Then you need the bios file and the p.bat file! Boot with your medium, execute p.bat!
