Need some help on this one... Please check out what I got and let me know what you think would be best for a pretty active gamer. My chief concerns are I want quality for my money but im not going all out. I am using this game mainly for Gaming a little browsing. I just upgraded to Dual 3870's and plan on upgrading my processor to Intel Core 2 T9400 2.53 ghz (which I listed below instead of the 2.4 ghz. I am not sure really what a processor is for, I just want a really fast laptop with barely any load times.
MY first question with that is, should I spend the extra 50 bucks and get the quad core? Even though its at 2.0 ghz.
I'm not too good with this computer stuff and my brother has been coaching me through it so I am starting to learn. Just want some other opinions.
Another question I have is with the chassis. I got the 17-Inch WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD (720p) because my brother said the extra 200 bucks for the WUXGA was not worth it. Is that true? I do want really good graphics on my computer but remember I only want it for gaming.
Please let me know if these are good specs for someone only interested really in gaming (WoW, Action's, Shooter, Strategy, STARCRAFT 2!!) . I need to upgrade my order today!!

well how much do you want to spend i would go with the 1920*1200. you can always go down but not up and i'm using it and it looks good. the t9400 is a great cpu but dont go any lower then that. and since the quad is only 2.0 it is a watse of money.
btw 720p is 1280*720. -
2) Get the WUXGA if you watch alot of HD movies in 1080p. WXGA is capped at 720p. You'll also be able to get the most out of the Crossfire setup with the higher resolution screen. There's diminishing returns in gaming with SLI/Crossfire on a 1440x900 screen vs the 1920x1200. It's like going 55mph in a wide open highway with no cops while driving an M3. You have all that power, you may as well get the most out of it. Also if you have an external 24" monitor (which seems to the standard nowadays), you can run dual monitors both at native resolutions. -
My concern with the Processor was the ghz, which the 50 dollars less one has 2.53 ghz as opposed to the quad with 2.0 ghz. I dont multitask too much. Any multitasking I do will be on my HP Computer where I keep my music, videos, pictures etc. I have no need to do any of that on this laptop. I just want it for gaming and for gaming while on travel.

How ironic for this to be in my math homework.
"A computer thet cost $2000 new has a book value of $500 after 2 years"

Hey all, I'm looking to buy this notebook, is the alienware website the only place where I can purchase this? Is there any coupons available? Was there any ever available?
If I don't use the crossfire option now for the graphics is it possible to upgrade it later by myself? (same for quad-core, if I don't choose it now, is it possible to upgrade by myself later?) -
And yes you can upgrade yourself later GPU and CPU (4870s!!) -
Fox is right i second it
-
Your WiC fps are quite low. The lowest average I had, was 26 with AW stock driver.

How would I go about upgrading the GPU? Do I just buy another 3870 card?
-
-
i think he is still doing single card benchmarks
yea you can just buy another 3870 but you need a cross fire cable to -
Hi
the savest way is: Call Alienware, tell them you want to buy a second card ... than they will send one to you and when you recive it you can call AW and theywill tell you how to put it in. The biggest advantig is, your warenty will "now" inclued the new GPU as wellSo you can, if you have problems, send the M17 t them without removing the card.
Greetings

Hello Will,
Thank you for contacting Alienware's Roswell Crew!
Regarding your question, first we would need to charge you for shipping to have the system returned to our repair facility, and then for the new CPU.
The shipping charge would be around $100.00 and the new CPU would cost $1185.24 plus tax.
If there is anything else I can help you with, please feel free to let me know.
Best regards,
this is how much it cost to upgrade from t9400 to qx9300 -
holy schnikys batman...that's a lotta cake!
hopefully the let you keep your original processor! -
Wow, 1300 bucks! That's alot of doe. I think I'd have to wait a year or 2 to upgrade that.
-
lol it wasnt for me but i thought i would post so if other people were hope'd they could get it, all there hopes would be crushed

you think 8.12 is the best now. i saw holds drivers comparsion but i wish there was more games on it.

Average fps: 20

Max fps: 57
no AA. -
Sorry for that, I have benched the most demanding games I have. I didn't see any point testing HL2, FC1, Brothers in Arms or Sins of a Solar Empire etc., since You can easily max them out with all the blows and whisles under any driver.
Additionaly You can find benchies of FC2 and Fallout 3 in E-wreckeds 8.12 thread.
Hope that helps
Cheers

Try enabling that and seeing if your games are in CrossFire. -

Meh wish i had good news but i am having problems already rofl.
I had problems with the stock drivers while playing games (WoW) so i decided to uninstall the ati stuff in control panel, downloaded the new 9.1 catalyst from the ATI site, rebooted and started the 9.1 install.
The strange thing is, it only install ATI Manager or w/e its called and doesn't install CCC and doesn't detect my ati cards....what the hell.. :S i am totally lost now.
Edit; just tried the official drivers from AW and they detect my cards..so how do i install new drivers if ati ones dont detect my cards :S. I also read the official ati drivers are not for mobile cards...oh well back to stock drivers i guess.
Will post those temp results asap. -
I think you need to mod the ATI driver's before you install...search out e-wrecked's modded drivers...they work good
make sure you use driver sweeper before you install to clean out the old driver
