There Was A Thread That I Started About A Single Card. But I'm On My Phone. And Over The W90 I Like The My Whitebook More. As Long As We Get The New Cards And The Better Bios. Our's Will Bed Better Than There's By Far. Because We Can Overblock From The Bios.

O.K. guys,
I.m gonna take your advise and not create a new thread. I need your help. My M17 arrives tomorrow and the first thing I need to do is flash the bios. What is the best OCZ bios to use, .27 or .28?

After I do that I'll make sure raid is enabled on the new bios and check to make sure everything is working.

I plan on pulling the SSD's from my M9750 and will install dual boot Vista64/XP Pro.

Then I'll update the video drivers which leads me to my next question. I've gone through the posts but don't know what will work best for me. Looks like the 9.3 drivers need more work yet, the 9.1's look good as do the 8.12 drivers. This will be with Vista64, x9100, and I'm not going to be overclocking my video cards.

Your suggestions are appreciated,

Lol. of course i am. for 3dmark stock i got 13,836. and at 3.06 i got 15,245. but i didnt do no gpu overclocking. and i didnt pump it up yet.

 

hey rob use Z-factors .28 and if your gonna wanna over clock good , your gonna need a older driver E has it i don't rember which one. But for stability i would go with 9.1. I choose 9.1 because its a decent step up for recent games over the 8.12, i personally saw FPS jumps im mine.

sounds good. I am gonna oc the proc, but I' not keen on overclocking the ATI's. Yet.

i know upping the voltage through bios unlocking multipliers etc but system stuff checking stability and differnt programs and what to look for etc

I disagree. With WoTLK they certainly stepped up the notch, especially with the new shadows, my 8600gt definetely struggles to keep up. and for 250 you get almost an 80% jump in graphical horsepower, which helps with not only games but programs such as photoshop or modelers etc. Unless of course you plan on upgrading to 4870s, and if you don't want to play games you could probably get a much better system for your needs for cheaper than an Alienware.

 

Wow the m17 is nice... was reading some posts with 15 and 16k 3dmark06 scores. Would like to see what it can do when it starts shipping with 4870s. I just want to pull the trigger on the asus w90 but reading some of these scores i just cant yet.

 

Well I finally shipped after almost 2 weeks, so we'll see how long it takes to get in my hands out here in this hell hole, be lucky to have it before May I think :-/

 

can anyone take a screenshot of everest of there gpu to see if they have the same reading.

hey don im not getting any thing ..... im running E's 9.3 so maybe it doesn't see it right i unno imma try regular drivers

 

download everest. as you can see in the first picture one of my gpu's or really underclocked. and the other is running at high speeds. i know this can be ati power play but shouldn't both be at the same speeds?

 

Can you use DDR3 with Asus W90?

 

Any idea what will it cost us to upgrade
to dual 4870 cards with shipping & everything
under $700 ( just a idea if anyone knows)


also how many days will it take Alienware to send it back

& do we need to clean it to factory settings before sending
or just make a back up of our files ?

yea power play downlclocks them to like 105 mhz ill try again


also the w90 i dont think can use ddr3 ram and

PS the asus w90 has 4870's just ddr3 versions

 

no what I meant is is both card downclocked. or is it just one. I a gathering information. I want to do a review about 5 pages long.

 

in max battery

gpu z shows it down clocks
one to 297 mhz on the core clock
and one to 109mhz on the core clock

memory is 405 mhz on both


max performance is



654 mhz for the core clock / on both
846 mhz for the memory / on both

ill check to see if it supports it but if they do then yours has it, that is a e0 chip same exact as a oem one 0 difference.

have you checked to see if speedstep or eist is turned off or set to disabled in the bios?

just checked mine mine will drop to a 6 multi and to 1596.2 and then back up to 9.5 multi 2527.3 at stock default speeds. ill check it overclocked to see if maybe that prevent its it??

 

lol his new ones will be AWESOME compared to what he has now.. that 120gb is just about dead imo.. he'll go from under 20 to prob 64-68 or so.. and more if he goes raid with the new 400's.. lol..

imo ssd's are still overated i own a few and i wish i didnt buy em for what i paid for them. not worth it at all yet

Z did u get SLC or MLC ones? also they take a bit of adjusting to get them to run well

 

mine are the brand new ocz's out now the brand new vertex ones both 120gb

 

ooo those cost a pretty penny mine are cheap mlc lol just enough ....

Anyone considering SSDs may want to look at the OCZ support forum, there is a LOT of information there, not specific to OCZ drives. It seems there is a lot to consider about how to get the best from these drives (as I have 2 Vertex already, now waiting on my M17 to be shipped, which is ironically delayed awaiting the 160GB drive).

The OCZ Vertex should leave them standing, but it's $209 for the 60GB(64GB), so more expensive...

I am hoping I'll see the performance others are getting (RAID 0 on the 2x 120GB Vertex, others see ~500MB/s read, 400MB/s write, so impressively little / no losses for RAID). It seems with the new SSD firmware (1275 from OCZ), these drives are breaking 250MB/s read and 200MB/s writes...

This is also a good article to read if looking at SSD.

BTW , My M17 is finally shipping , Unfortunately I'll not be able to use it until after Easter (away on business until the 16th of April) , but I'll let you know how I get on with these two drives once I've had the chance to play with my new toy...

 

i bought a 30 gig vertex ... ill get a better one down the road . I went with the cheaper, so ill have more money for other stuff

 

30gigs is tiny for modern day HDDs :-/

 

it's enough for the OS. you can put the other stuff on a normal HDD, and you'll still have a dramatic speed increase.

 

yup all i wanted dual boot win 7 on SSD since its optimized and vista on the 160( gonna be 320 )

i heard that ssd's aren't the best at oerclocking. is that true?

 

dont know about that part, but i know they are good for super fast boot up times and anything related to drive activity. they are quite a bit faster than your normal 7200 rpm drive...
