Really glad it is working out as expected. My M17 is apparently at my local delivery depot, so should be delivered today, (shame I won't be there for 2 weeks), but it's good to see the ICH9M on the M17 handles these drives nicely. I'm very much looking forward to trying my 2x120GB in RAID 0 now...

After reading that AnandTech article, I am really debating between the 80 Intel and the 128 Vertex. It will depend on what the costs are when I get back. I can't believe how the Intel price dropped. It's almost comparable to the Vertex.

Side note, is the CyberPower Gamer Xtreme M1 the same chassis the M17 and OCZ? I saw its review here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2342961,00.asp. They still prefer the M17 in the article.

Just got word my system shipped yesterday, with an estimated arrival of Saturday - so I am 2 days from being a real part of this thread as a M17 owner.... :) :) :)

The good: This is great news, as I thought it was held up for back-order parts, and I wasn't expecting it for another 2 to 3 weeks.

The bad: I sorta already told the wife I'd take her to a craft show this weekend... :( "Uh, honey? About the craft show thing... How about I just drop you off, and leave you there all weekend??"

Ok, just got my m17 in the mail, what is the recommended order of installing new drivers?

I'm really lazy and wanted to know if someone would explain how I can make it dual boot with ubuntu...??? Will AlienRespawn 1.0 allow me to make partitions on the hdd, and complete the normal vista x64bit install w/ alienware features installed, and then I can just install ubuntu on the other partition? Or, will I need to do something else?

Since you didn't say that you have a second hard drive for your Linux distro, let me suggest you use Wubi. It is an official installer of Ubuntu. It will do everything for you. All you have to do is enter a password, a name, and pick the size of the installation. When you want to uninstall just go to Windows Add and Remove and remove it from there. Easy.

Wubi will set up everything for you, including the dual boot part without messing with your Windows Master Boor Loader.

Just a little advice: DO NOT use Ubuntu 8.10. It will not work. Download Ubuntu 8.04LTS from the official website and (I suggest) burn it on a CD, then have Wubi use that file instead, otherwise it will automatically download Ubuntu 8.10 for you, and you don't want that.

Once you burn a Live CD with Ubuntu 8.04LTS, you have to be sure to check the CD for errors before attempting an install. I had 2 CDs with errors and both gave me a problem, the third one checked out without errors and it worked flawlessly.

I wouldn't be as happy as I am without my dual boot

    Ah, cruel fate!

FedEx has two boxes for me - one most likely contains the Orion bag for my M17 (or maybe the cooler I ordered) and the other has the computer. Both were set to arrive on the 4th (tomorrow), but now fedex site shows one package got on the truck today, and will arrive today!

I can't wait - I might get my computer tonight! That would be sweet!

Then I notice that the package set for delivery today weights 8 lbs. Seeing that the weight of the M17 (without packaging, etc) is more than that...

:( Looks like I'll get to enjoy a great laptop bag tonight, or maybe a cooelr, but have to wait to enjoy the laptop tomorrow night.

In the words of Inigo, from the Princess Bride,

    I hate waiting!

I am still waiting on word for mine to move into assembly. I am assuming it will be at least one more week before they even start. A long wait for such a nice toy. Until then I am relying on my desktop and Xbox 360 to keep me occupied.

Just ordered mine last night. Base model and crossfire. They also said they don't have a part for it so it wouldn't begin assembly for for a few days. Cant tell ya what they don't have they wouldn't tell me. Strange

Hoping its the video cards. Might be a sign that AW might be going 4870 soon. Fingers crossed

Mine has been in queue for a week now, I was told everything was standing by waiting for the video cards to arrive to begin assembly. They are hoping some arrive this week but I know they are expecting a shipment on the 13th of April. If they do move to the 4870's it's a sure thing I will try to upgrade. I hear great things about that card.

If you turn the sound off and are in a silent room with no noise then yes, you can hear the fans a little. Not noisy though.

I have an M9750 I got about a year ago w/7950GTx's in SLI. My new M17 is much more powerful especially w/ the X9100 extreme dual core @ 3,06.
