you don't have a option for a Xfire tab :)

your GPU's are setup in a Master/Slave arrangement, So there will not be one

To disable the second graphics card, in the ATI CCC under 3D->Catalyst AI, you simply disable "Catalyst AI".

well i just ordered myself a m17 yesterday. i got the cheapest config with just the illuminated keyboard the only thing added on/changed. i don't need the faster stuff all i want it for is playing WoW without video lag, right now i play on a acer extenza 5420 with 160 gb 5,000rpm hd, 700 mb SHARED video,1.9 ghz duel core amd cpu, and 2 gb ram that i got at best buy so almost anything will be better then this. anyone know how well World of Warcraft runs on the single video card setup with 2 gb of ram and the 160GB 7,200rmp HD?

It will run quite well, the only hiccup you might see would be due to your inet connection. On a side note though, vista really does like 4gb of ram, the best upgrade I did for my m17 was putting in 4gb, I saw an improvement everywhere.

But congrats on the purchase, I am sure you will enjoy it.

you will need to upgrade the ram if you turn the settings up

just get 4 gigs of ddr3 066mhz ram and it will run fine

thank you, i already bought it yesterday so i might have to buy some more ram for it from like newegg or something. looks like its cheaper to buy it from a 3rd party anyway, that and i have to wait a few months to build up some more money so i can buy the ram. lol. but i was thinking about getting rid of vista and putting xp on it or the win 7 beta, my current laptop like i said only has 2 gb of ram (the one i am on right now seance i don't own a desktop well i do own one but its a old 386 and i don't think it will be doing anything any time soon :p) my current laptop is running win 7 nicely, i have the rc1 beta and i bleave i am eliable for the free win 7 upgrade seance i bought it after the 26th.

I picked up 4GB ram off Newegg for $63. I shopped around, too. Newegg had the best price. I'm waiting for 8gb to come WAY down.

Does the upgrade from 2GB of ram really make that much of a difference and in what exactly? Would I see better performance in games?

in vista it really does make a difference simply because of the sheer amount of ram that Vista takes up on background process's

It is a big improofment ... but hard to tell what you can expect in games.

GTA like Ram and Vista as well, also every time you would had to load something into the HDD now it goes into the ram and you gain more palytime :D

    4GB is realy a great deal :)

you will only get a boost in games that utilize more then 2 gb of ram :)

WoW will either get a error when you run out of room in your ram or crash....eventually

For me I saw a boost in more than just games, I mean literraly everything I did from just booting up to tabbing through windows to loading Firefox...everything was just snappier. And certain games like Fallout 3 became much more smooth. Like I said, upgrading from 2->4gb was the best thing I did.

I don't think 8GB will make much difference from 4GB. Unless you do virtual setups. Overkill I would say.

Rico257, I see your sig and can only imagine what your computer room setup looks like. How about posting a pic of it?

I posted mine once on the "Show us your computer room" thread. Of course it got buried within the posts. I will do another one when the new rig arrives.

    I think sb posted a test where GTA runs faster with 8 > 4 > 2 ....

But I don't think that will work for other games^^

4GB is what will make a difference to 2GB :)

Looking forward to it. I remember my computer room setup with my M17. it was great. Waiting for the M17x to arrive now... The Skull cap is awesome. They should have included it with the new one.

That's the only setback so far of this new one.

And oh yeah, for that 8GB price I would put 2 256GB SSDs on it.

    I LIKE IT.
I just have a recliner with a 24" monitor on a swing arm over the seat. A second monitor to the right on an end table and a tv across the room in front with on the left. Damn I am confortable. Did I mention the 24" has a picture in picture and I am watching a movie while writing this.

So, since I've had my M17x the lights on the keyboard havent worked. Dell sent out a tech to my house and replaced the keyboard, but it still isnt working. Does anyone know what Dell would do? Would they send me a new mobo or a whole new laptop? It's only 4 days old btw.

Just curious, it doesn't overheat closed like that?

I don't think it will run three monitors. When I open the ATI control center, it has options for only two. Or am I missing something? If so, how do I configure three?

Ah I see. Actually I thought you had some additional hardware like Matror or EVGA. Still looks pretty cool man. I remember when I had my M17 I used to look up solutions for more than one external monitor. I never gave it a shot though. Some of that extra hardware is expensive.

price. plain and as simple as that. lol. mom only have 1650 left on her titanium credit thingy after getting my little bro his new desktop for graduation back in December and i figure i can always do upgrades to this one over time as i get the money, by that i mean at some point i plan on getting 4 gb of ram instead of the 2 i have now, and getting the 2nd video card to do crossfire, and getting a tv tuner for it at some point too. i also want to get the quad core cpu but that can wait. lol. i will probably start doing the upgrades to this in September / October but first thing i have to do is worry about paying mom back for getting me this. lol. that and i am not a heavy gamer, the only real games i play are the sims and world of warcraft. lol.
