yeah, 1099 for a LOADED one. I'd expect to see a starting price of 799 or 899 at the MOST. the current M15x sells for 1199. The original M17X R2 cost 1799 for base, but now costs 1499 for base. Factoring in a drop of 300 for Sandy Bridge (going of the M17X R3 type of drop) and another 100 for the smaller screen (just an estimate), that would plant us in the 799 starting point.

If the M14x isn't priced between the $600 M11x and $1200 M15x, then there it will make little sense even existing. I'll figure it will have a $1,000 starting price at the most, but deals every once in a while bringing it down a few hundred.
-
Dudes, the Core i M11x starts at almost $1k. Hoping for the M14x to be cheaper is the first step on the road to disappointment.
I'll jump on the $1099 boat. -
Well, I certainly wouldn't compain if I was wrong, but hoping for anything less than $899 for the starting price of a debut 14" Alienware model I think is being too optimistic. Even if it does start shockingly low, you know you're gonna configure it to cost well over $1000, anyway. :] 6 months ago, my M11x R2 with 640UM, 4 gigs of memory, and a 250GB hard drive cost $1250. And I just sold it after 6 months of use for $810.

Though there were some great deals on the Core i5/i7 M11x a few weeks ago that brought the price down to $550-$700 for a model including 8GB of RAM and a 250GB HDD.

But those were deals, the starting price was still much higher normally. Do not expect an M14x below $1k
Considering the specs we are expecting, that would be a ludicrously low price. Be realistic..... -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
Either way I'm going through Alienware withdraw so I'm hoping that there is a system for around $800 without the M11x's faults (screen with abysmal viewing angles and faulty hinge design on every R1/R2, even those in production) soon.
Edit: As long as the M11x R3 has a much better screen and maintains a low price, I'll buy one. I would not pay more than $700 for a Core i model though if a better video card isn't utilized. -
800$ for a completely barebones m14x, maybe, more likely a starting point of 1099+. The i7-m11x is 999? Even factoring in a drop for sandy, cannot justify a starting point below 1000.
-
Come on...
This machine with Intel Core i7-2820QM, 4GB of RAM, 500 GB of HDD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M graphics... will cost at least 1200 dollars. Do not be trolls... -
I agree with $1,099. Anyone expecting it to debut at under $1k is completely delusional. I do hope to see a good price on the M11x-R3. I've been holding off on buying one of these for a while. I would really like to see the silver color back, although it's a stretch.
-
I am also in the "starting at $1099" boat, but it won't start with a 2820QM. That's the top of the line. The 555M might be the top, as well.
-
I also wonder whether they'll add a weaker, entry level GPU, so they can tax for the 555M.
Probably the GT 525M. -
m11x costs $999 (with discounts)...
M14x will have a better CPU and GPU, also a DVD/Blu-Ray Unit...
Also if you check the basic m15x, it sucks:
i3?? ati 5730???
Just check the market, the price between notebooks of 14 and 15 inches are almost the same... -
Hey guys, figured I'd change the subject a little. I'm very excited for the M11x R3. I figure it'll come out around the 20th or so, just my opinion. Any speculation for the GPU? 525M-550M? Those are all the same shader count, with different clocks or memory. I'd love for a 555M, but seeing as thats M14x, it wont happen. I think a 540M with GDDR5 would be a nice performance increase w/DX11 support. What do you guys think? Could they go with a 4xxM?
-
Whatever it has, it won't be GDDR5.
I'll wager on it having the plain old GT 540M -

I would love an M14x with an i5 (who needs 8 cores?), 4GB RAM, and a 500GB HDD, w/555M and 1080p. $1200?

I kinda wish they kept the front vents like the R3 on the m17x they look nice with the silver running through the middle.

Now from Engadget... Alienware's M14x revealed: classic middle-child overachiever, none of the simmering sibling resentment -- Engadget
Comeone Dell.. Release this puppy so I can give you way too much money. -
they're talking like the m11x is already out. i don't understand why dell hasnt released it yet. Doesb't make sense.
-
One thing from the M14x: Why is Dell still using that keyboard style? Yeah fine it's Alienware, but at this point it looks dated. Am I the only one that thinks an island style keyboard, like on the L702x, with AlienFX and the Star Trek font, would look a million times better?
-
I find it harder to type on a island style keyboard but agree appearance wise its much nicer.
-
I prefer chiclet keyboard too. It is easy to keep clean.
-
chiclet keyboard
A keyboard with flat, squared-off keys that resemble chiclets (gum). Used on low-cost devices, it is unsuitable for continuous typing. (Computer Desktop Encyclopedia copyright ©1981-2011 by The Computer Language Company Inc. All Right reserved.)
A keyboard with a small, flat rectangular or lozenge-shaped rubber or plastic keys that look like pieces of Chiclets chewing gum. Used especially to describe the original IBM PCjr keyboard. Vendors unanimously liked these because they were cheap, and a lot of early portable and laptop computers were launched with them. Customers rejected the idea with almost equal unanimity, and chiclets are not often seen on anything larger than a digital watch any more. (This article is provided by FOLDOC - Free Online Dictionary of Computing (foldoc.org - chiclet keyboard definition of chiclet keyboard in the Free Online Encyclopedia.)
And, from my very extensive experience with myself and my adult students, I totally agree. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have NO desire for chiclet keyboards.....the M17x R1 is my favorite keyboard of any I have used in my life. For me though keyboard layout is more important than key design, which is why Clevo is a fail

Anyone have any idea what the "vent" pictured here on the M14x is? It's not actually for ventilation, because there's no outlet at the back of the chassis. I'd like to think it's a big subwoofer, but that's unlikely in the extreme. I'm hoping it's not purely for symetry.
Ideas, anyone? -

Thanks for those pics. I knew I'd seen a couple of them before, but I wasn't sure where.
This picture shows a (very) small sub-woofer in the middle, right at the front.
Maybe a second HDD bay? It looks like an empty space, sort of. -

The wait appears to be worth it. I could manage with a 6770M but the GeForce 555M is my personal favorite for a starting point.
Now it is going to be the M14x (Rumored) vs. the Lenovo Y470/570 for my money. A Core i5 appears to be more than enough for gaming on the mobile side. Maybe the Core i7 quad cores are not stock. Even the Core i7 2630M. -

i think in the review they call right the front of it as for left they use plural (or maybe it's the translation). Looks more like a HDD caddy with those screws and holes.

No mention of that in the US online April catalog
Dell E-Catalog
But good find none the less. Are there specs inside? -

Here is a pdf link of the catalogue:

Apparently (according to the pdf) the M14X and the M18x need "retouch" and we have to ask Anna or Ross -
So it is the end of the M15x.
Good thing, the M14x looks way more interesting! I'm just usure about the built quality and the finish.
I will probably get the M14x in a couple of years when my M15x becomes obsolete. -
im so excited about the m18x.

-
Thank god, I'm 2 seconds away from buying an Origin if AW doesn't deliver something worthwhile, and at this point the biggest things stopping me are the AW presentation and backlit keyboard. I'd forgotten how comfortable I find the m17x keyboard until the chicklet conversation.
-
So it is final now - no M15X... shame on you dell! Shame on you for not making a 15 inches monster with GeForce GTX 485M (This is possible - I have no doubt)...
-
So I guess I'll take this opportunity to say I called it a long time ago on both:
