I canceled mine. Not because I want the m18x. The r3 was perfect and would have kept it if it shipped, but decided to go with a desktop build with a gtx560 gpu that'll hold me over until bulldozer. 8 cores ftw.
You can build a desktop with the same gaming performance as an r3 / r2 for about $400 right now. I'll just tuck the rest away and see what happens once bulldozer and the new gtx6xx series comes out within 6 months time or so.
Still want the R3, but not going to wait a month to get it.
-
I'm still quite content with my R2, and in fact I like my R2 over the R3. I only use my r3 in bed pretty much.
-
I love having a coule of laptops and a desktop like u do -
-
Can someone pm me the specs please ?
Is it for the m18x or m14x ?
Thanks -
If you really want to wait, then wait. Only you can really answer this...
What if the m18x doesn't release (if its real) for 3-6 months, can you wait this long? What if it only releases with AMD Xfire and they don't add the 485m (single and SLI) for another month or long after that? Are you ok with paying possibly $1000 + more for it?
On the other hand is the M17x R3 fast enough for you? Do you really need a laptop now? Would you rather wait for a higher powered laptop?
I mean I could go on and on lol... -
-
OK. What did I just miss? I heard the word specs and came to find nada...
-
Ok, I can't post the pics of what appear to be the official documents of M14x just yet but I can iterate some of the specs.
This is for the Alienware M14x:

That is my next laptop... -
Ah they had to ruin it all with an Optical drive......
be nice if they had an option to swap it out for something else
like an extra internal hard drive or something.
Still looks good though, i would need a size comparison to the m11x before i buy one though, because i was going to get an m11x but the r3 is taking to long and this will have a better screen
Edit-------------------------
could u pm me those pics if you dont mind ? -
Height: 37.8mm
Width: 337.0mm
Depth: 258.34mm

M11x

Depth: 233.3mm
Weight: 1.99Kg (depends on the configuration) -
I think this is the Pc i've been waiting for the M14x will be amazing. It sounds like its gonna pretty much be what the dell xps line should have been. Does any one know a prospective date on when it might be released?
-
ive heard the 19th of this month... but i doubt it
-
ooo that would be amazing but that seems pretty early and I haven't heard anything from dell but the 19th would be great.
-
Like someone else mentioned; swapping the slot-load drive with an HDD would be golden.
-
yeah, thought it was great not having an optical drive on the m11x because i never use them lol. But this 'slot-load drive' is it like the cd drive u get in the ps3 and the wii ?
-
Yes, exactly, that is the slot load drive. I'm not too crazy for the optical drive either, could have made the chassis lighter/smaller, or allowed better cooling like the m11x. Still need to wait for more details. Definitely excited here. Honestly, I don't see an m15x revision at all. the m17x r3/ the "m14x" pretty much replaces it slightly on both size extremes. I really don't see alienware hosting the marketing of 5 different laptops.
-
i wonder if the m14x will support 3d as well
m15x will be replaced with m14x i think -
Probably, the M15x makes no sense now that the R3 is out. Nearly same weight, with more battery life and better specs.
Dell just updated its Inspiron R and vostro lines so maybe the M14x will come sooner than we think.
-
-
-
what price do you think this m14x will be releasing? Higher than m15x or lower than m15x? to me it seems like a more complete laptop the m14x, more technology and thus I think it will be more expensive
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
It will probably be around $1000-$1200
Remember it cannot cost as much as the M17x at $1499 -
So what would the hypothetical M18x do for you that the R3 doesn't (outside the obvious 1/2" extra screen real estate around the edges)... -
I found something which I at least think is interesting.
Pressing Fn+F3 on the M14x brings up a popup window that allows you to select which wireless to enable or disable. It's no longer all on or all off (unless this has changed already and I missed some episodes)
options:
Bluetooth
WLAN
WWAN
WirelessHD -
-
I would sense a starting price of 999, maxed out could reach 1500+ even more if SSD is an option. Still wish for a m13x, a little portable and could be just a tad cheaper.
-
I don't have one. I don't even know if the information I have is real or not. It's from an early draft of some of its documents (or so I think).
I have some crappy pics of it
For example:
-
nice, can u pm me the other pics you have please ( i will not post them anywhere i promise
)
Btw where have you been getting the pics and info ? -
That looks somewhat legitimate, that is a new bottom if I am not mistaken. Looks pretty cool, silver would go pretty well from the normal black
-
Nice pic, looks quite thick though.
Around 1.7-1.9" I'd say. -

Personally I think sli 485m and 2920xm is a bit overkill, I would happily settle for an r3 with 485m and 2820qm (if only)
-
-
If the information is correct, it would be 1.49inches thick
-
i hate talking about the M18X, hence i JUST got my 17X R3 last week
-
-
i would like to see the m14x with a blue colour option !
RRei i cant see the m18x coming any time soon.... it would seem crazy to bring it out now when the m17x r3 has just been released -
yea its pretty big for a 14, I compared it with my 15'4 Hp pavilion and measures the same! also the m14x its thicker than my HP pavilion
it would be a 14 laptop which its big and heavy as a normal 15' laptop
thats it
I stay with the m11x for ultraportability! (also im getting it soon cant wait) -
yeah same, i hope we get some info on a possible m11x r3 soon though !
-
I am going bonkers waiting for the M11xR3, but I have faith we'll see it soon. Hopefully Sandy Bridge, and a more up to date GPU.
-
it seems that no one knows anything about a possible m11x r3... every other alienware laptop has had some kinda leaked info lol
-
I had been waiting for m13x and these rumors popped up, really dissapointed, so I would stick with the m11xR3
-
In the other M14X speculation threads I heard April 21st as the rumoured date.
Like many of you, this is the laptop I've been waiting for. Not too light; not too heavy ...just perfect.
Something I'd love for it to have would be HDMI-In so I could hook my 360 to it, like the M17 R3 has. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Only leak regarding an M11xR3 is that many M11x's show up as that on dell site now when you enter your service tag haha
-
Hope you get your lappy soon. We're all waiting for our R3's still
I hope the 14x comes with a 900p screen, cuz 720p would look soooo crappy -
The laptop wait game is infuriating, but at least the M14 is looking more likely to be released, which makes me happy ^__^ Oh, it does come with a 900p screen option as per the rumour a few pages back. -
Are they going to refresh the m15x as well? The 14" is too small for me despite the decent graphics options.
