I wouldn't be so cynical, right now (in Australia at least) there's a huge gap in product as they have removed the m15x from available systems. Sure, we may just be getting the m11x r3 (not a bad thing in itself imo) but I think there's still a fair chance the m14x and m18x will be released, or at the very least announced with a definite date.

I hope the M14x and M18x are released, and the R3 either released or soon after.

Ya, I really hope all 3 are launched but I just cant convince myself that its going to happen on the same day. Like you said, we will probably get set release dates on the 2 newcomers and most likely a m11x r-3 launch. I really just wish they would start taking orders for the 18" and 14".

I have interest to know the quality of the stock screen as well. My speculated stock configuration starting price should be 999 or 1099.

There's online coupons if you Google it.

All Alienware laptops get -50$ off at the moment (over 999$) so I'm sure the new models will be included under the coupon umbrella :)

    --

On a side note, I just picked up extra shifts and a holiday in order to get all the M14X upgrades I wanted :) So glad the announcement is next week! These pictures I've been seeing online are so gorgeous.

I never realized how important the look/design of a laptop is until I replaced my Asus G73 with a Sager. I used to get excited everytime I opened up the G73 (due to the stealth bomber look), but with the Sager ...it's just so plain/boring I never felt any excitement at all ...this feeling will soon change once the M14X is in my hands :D

My assumption for the Canadian pricing is:
    M14X = 999-1099$ (prob 1099$ since they add +100$ to Canadians)
    Upgrade from i5-2nd gen to i7-2gen = 150$
    Upgrade from 1366 resolution to 1600 resolution = 150$

Can't wait. This thread has been VERY good with a wealth of information :)

The speculative release date of April 21st is now April 19th thanks to that website link a few pages back. Get your wallets ready, guys! lol

    M14x battery life---
What do you suppose this means?

Optimus ™ is prepared with everything: Alienware M14X is equipped with NVIDIA ® Optimus by Dynamic Graphics Technology ™, 1 XX hours maximum charging time of 7 total attacks can be lasting.

Ahhhh, I'm wanting an m14x sooo bad right now but I've promised myself I won't buy a new computer until at least the next financial year so I can claim part of it back as student expenses :/ Plus my R1 is only about six months old...

How does the M14x have a subwoofer, and the R3 doesn't. I'm banging my head in utter amazement at the moment. Not that a tiny subwoofer matters on a notebook, but just the fact that Dell skimps out on these little features when people are already paying $2000+ for the M17xR3. And the R3 was released less than 2 months ago.

    Absolutely ridiculous.

I got this link for you guys off of the JP "Japan" Alien site

It says 7 in that sentence.. and in the sentence above it where it talks about the laptops weight being under 7lbs it says a number 6 in the same fashion which is the weight of the laptop (6.4lbs) so it could possibly be 7 hours of battery life which would make me totally forget about any other laptop out there.

I was thinking the same thing (M14X having a 7 hour battery life).

If that's the case, then the M14X will be a gift from the gods! :)

It's too bad AW doesn't offer an option to pay 50$~ in order to get production/processing time chopped in half or something in that sense (prioritized orders) :p

According to 2 regular workers, and the manager himself, they've been testing the M18X so they can get familiar with specs. If its only the M11X being released next week, why try the M18X now? That doesn't make any sense.

Huh, I think I must have just assumed it was the China one because that's what has been posted to before... EMBARRASSING!!

Also, seven hours? That's pretty impressive, I'd be happy with six from that thing! If this is the case, definitely DEFINITELY going to be tempted to get it sooner rather than later...

I am really likeing the look the front of the M14x has. It looks a million times better than my M11x I had

I like some of these google translate sentences. Funny.

So, the Japanese website already had pages for M14x and M18x. It's written to ask Dell Rep about these 2 new models.
There is a Dell-Alienware shop not far from my office here in Tokyo. I will show them these pages and ask what they think.
I remember that we had the M17x R1 as a show-case only a day or 2 after paper release.

I think google translator goofed up the sentence a little on the english translation.

    Optimus™で準備は万端: Alienware M14xが搭載するNVIDIA® Optimus™のダイナミックなグラフィックステクノロジーによって、1回の充電で最大XX時間 7 におよぶ総攻撃を仕掛けることが可能です。

They are using some "gamer wording" marketing sentence.
Basically it says that thank to the Optimus dynamic technology, with only one charge you can achieve a maximum of 7 hours utilization.

What is strange is this part: XX時間 7
7時間means 7 hours but XX時間 means it's not finalized maybe...
But there is the number 7 after so I assume it's seven.

I used to work in marketing for cosmetic, often you put a claim and then the scientist (ingeniors in the case for AW I guess) are reducing your claim (competitor and consumer group are watching)...
So I think it will be 7 but they might be a bit more reasonable...anyway should last pretty long :D!

Hmm. Depending on the price, I might just go for the M14x then. 7 hours battery would be awesome.

I just wish it had HDMI in...although I suppose the screen resolutions wouldn't play nice with consoles.

The Alienware page on the Dell site has definitely been revamped since I visited it earlier in the day. Looking very slick, obviously gearing up for something.

I must say that I am extremely content with my M11xR2, and my only hope with the R3 is that it has a higher quality screen which is compatible and can be used to replace the R1 and R2 screens whenever our hinges give out.
    One can only hope...

On another note, it's pretty funny that the customer spotlight is the M15x and it isn't even offered anymore ;)

How much space inside do you think the opticle drive takes up ?

i know normal opticle drives are huge but these new slide in ones look tiny

I think i am going to buy m14x after seeing some of those pics !

A lot. Google for an optical drive HDD caddy and you'll see the difference in size. The slot-loading drives still take up the same amount of space internally, they just look a lot cleaner on the outside.

As much as I really want to believe the 7 hour battery life for the M14x, I'm seriously doubting it. The current M11x - with the same battery and a lot less hardware to pull power - only gets around 5.5? on average? I don't think Sandy Bridge is that efficient.

As long as the battery life is around the five hour mark, I'll be picking one up though. This really does look like my perfect laptop.
