What's amusing is that 14" notebook weighs around the same as my 17.3" one.

You've got a very lightweight 17.3" notebook then.

Remember that the M14x is packing a LOT more power than every other notebook in its class. Very few notebooks with these specs are lighter; most of them will be 'professional' high grade, and probably more expensive, laptops that aren't geared towards gaming.

CPU wise, it should be enough, but the GT 555M is a pretty big step down from what current gen desktop GPUs do, so I have my doubts. The GT335M on the M11x struggled with 1366x768 on BF:BC2, a GT555M at 1600x900 will have issues here and there

I would like to know this too. It seems PS3 only supports 24 players + smaller maps and the PC version supports 64 players + bigger maps!

all of the BF3 vids out there were done on a GTX580 video card, and the game isn't even done yet...

I highly doubt any laptop out now will be able to play it in anything more than min. settings...

Unless Battlefield 3 has significantly higher minimum GPU requirements than Crysis 2 has ( very doubtful, Crysis 2 requires a minimum of a desktop 8800GT and above for goodness sake) then the M14x should perform just fine in Battlefield 3.

Just one of my two GPUs will run Crysis 2 at 1366x768 in High, and the 555M is significantly more powerful than that. Battlefield 3 will have to have some absolutely absurd GPU requirements to not run well on the M14x. (Granted, Crysis 2 is currently DX9 only, and BF3 is DX10/11 only.)

I'm pondering 2820QM vs 2920XM for the M18X. Is the 2920XM really going to have OC benefits? It looks to be a pretty steep increase in price if I opt for the 2920 when looking at the UK config.

To you guys worried about the 555m at 1600x900 res:

Look at my Envy 14. 5650m. 1600x900 Radiance (the res I game at). This little card can push medium settings easy on most of the games I play @ around 30FPS.

Playing Rift, I get about 20-40FPS with a good mix of low, medium, and even high settings. The 555m should be more than capable of good framerates at medium-high settings @ native (16x9).

Unless you use some very CPU intensive programs, you won't see much of a real benefit from a 2920XM. You probably won't see much benefit from anything above a 2720QM.

Virtually every game out there will never be bottlenecked by a 2.2GHz quad core Sandy Bridge i7.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong there; I haven't yet seen a game that will be bottlenecked by these processors.)

I got this laptop extremely fast from the time I purchased it. There isn't another 14" laptop around that can compete with it. Plays all current games on high @ 1080p with ease. Thanks Alienware!!

That's why I just opted for the 2630QM on my m17x R3. Sandy Bridge is so powerful as it is, I doubt I'd really ever utilize one of the stronger processors. I mean, look at the passmark scores for the 2630QM. It places it above most of the desktop i7 processors of the last gen. That's crazy.

Woah, nobody mentioned Alienware's Tweet today yet. The official @Alienware Twitter tweeted "You've heard the rumors. Discover the truth. Sign up today! fb.me/VLGLIJGB" today, obviously referring to the new systems.

It was a tiny joke. Just got bored with all these double posts on " breaking news ". Back on track, do you guys think there is a chance we might be able to order before 20 hours? If someone finds the config page. Also does Alienware still give out $100 off coupons for new systems for joining the Alienware arena site?

lol @ calling m17x r3 portable at 9bs. 8lbs to 12 lb to me don't make a difference and it is the same, unless of course u go below 5lbs then that is light and portable.

To me portability = size+power not weight (unless it's like super heavy)

m17x R3 is as big as many normal 15.6 laptops (even smaller than asus G53 in size)

Moving heavy Desktop+LCD+Keyboard+Ton of wires = not portable

I usually move from room to room (big house 5 floors) or drop it in the car to visit a friend then it would sit on a table and that's it.

I surely do not have ideas to take it to college or walking with it, getting a netbook is much better (less than 1 KG)

Wonder if Dell could've gotten dual-GPU to work with HM67 by putting them both on a single PCB....or soldering them onto the MB.

Possible switchable graphics but no more GPU upgrading and no real overclocking. Wasn't there a slide that mentioned the M18x would be factory overclocked...what Dell might really be saying there is that they'll OC the CPU in the factory because users won't be able to do it at home.

I don't believe so, reason being Salesman are not in the joke and all of them have confirmed the existence of the m18x.

If Alienware was gonna pull a joke like this it would probably ended up costing them all it's customers and also the information about the m18x didn't come on the 1st.

Never underestimate how easily the average person gets trolled on the internet.

Anyway, I want the m14x. I really do, but the 16x9 is going to have to be at least somewhat close to the Radiance in terms of quality or I probably won't be able to let go of my Envy14.

I already took a hit with going from the RGB of my R2 to the WLED of the R3. I do appreciate the fact that it's a high quality WLED, but it's nowhere near the RGB.

M14x page got a lot more added to it.

Alienware M14x Laptop Details | Dell

    It also mentions:
"End result—up to 6 hours[1] of battery life on a single charge."

Now, they haven't added in the fine print, so we don't know what the [1] is referring to (I assume just a "depends on system configuration" type thing), so even allowing for the most-probably unlikely circumstances in which Dell tested that, 5 hours battery isn't half bad!

Also says the it will have WirelessHD.

Crysis 2 maxed out. I tried that on my R3 and the max fps was about 30 so dual 6970M's should give 50-60+.
