From what I can see of the M18x photos it's going to have a rubber palm rest and the rest will be aluminum--very nice design decision by Dell. The soft touch palm rest feels really good once you try it. I loved it on the M17x-R3 an I'm sure it will be just as good on the M18x. My biggest complaint of the R3 has been addressed with M18x: Aluminum lid + chasis. This combines the best features into one product. Just wish it had IGP support but I'll deal. Hmm I see the following config in my near future:

    Nebula Red Avenger
    2720QM (can't afford 2920xm yet)
4 GB 1333 mhz ram (gonna upgrade to aftermarket 8-16 GB 1600 mhz)
    2 x 500 gb seagate momentus xt
    intel wireless
    Blu ray Rom
    AMD 6970M Crossfire

My first red Alienware, I never tried it before and frankly didn't really like it but I figured I'll try something different this time since all I've purchased in the past is black. Wish they had kept silver.

Wow there's no way that price can be accurate. If it is that really sucks for Australia since the AU dollar is matching the USD.

Wow that Australian price is disgustingly overpriced. Guess Aussies will be using HIDevolution type services to acquire one from the USA.

Given I already ordered the M17 R3 for the 3d if I find it not very good I'm giving it back and getting the M18x I'll get it for the same price which is great.

    I can get
    2720qm
    HD Dual 6970 crossfire
    500gb Hybrid Drive
    Blu Ray
    Intel Ultimate
    2 years warranty including accidental

    for the same price

We discussed this in length already a few pages back. Basically because the chipset needed to for SLi/Xfire + IGP support isn't' available yet.

I just had a rep confirm to me that the M14x base model starts at "$1,199 in the US with i7-2630QM, 4GB RAM, 500GB hard drive and 1.5GB Nvidia card" Which I guess is the same config as the India base model.

Alienware M14x Laptop Details | Dell India

Still talking to the rep. She just said she found a $1,600 config and asked me if i wanted her to put it in my cart. Hold on

Is anyone with a M17x R2 Xfire 5870 RGB screen thinking of trading up to the M18x for the Xfire 6970? Is the lesser quality screen worth the jump in graphics horsepower?

    Why surprised? m17x R3 cost 1499$ with stronger card/bigger screen/etc

Alienware prices are no longer "overpriced" as it used to be "you get what you pay for was a lie imo" i only jumped to alienware as new buyer when m17x R3 was released, my previous alienware was used, couldn't justify the price different with Asus when both were offering same cpu/gpu (it's not the case anymore, asus is lol stuck with GTX 460 when Alienware is offering 6970 and much better setup)

Wow, the M11x R3 seems to be expensive, the base price on Indian website is around 1500$ and usually the AW India pricing is US price+ 50%(as seen in the case of M14x, costs 1800$ for base config, thus 1200$ in US as confirmed by revdiesel). If we were to go by that then that'd mean a base price of 1000$

Yes it does but I am comparing base configs of both, and the base config of the M14x is much better than that of the M11x.
But i guess both are targeted at different users just like the M17x R3 and the M18x.
