Dell Japan got option for both GT 555M 1.5GB DDR3 and GT 555M 3.0GB DDR3. We need to pay 16,485 yen (about 200 USD) if we want the extra graphic card memory

Even GT 555M cannot maximize the 1.5GB VRAM, you need 3.0GB? LOL!!

Am I right in saying that the M18X won't have a 3D screen as an option? Suppose it makes sense. They need to differentiate the 17 from the 18.

Sadly, that seems to be the case,

By the way is the new M14/M11 similar build as M18x?

Have a look at the X-540 speakers, if you're thinking of Logitech. The Z506s are meant to replace them, but the 540s actually have a couple of features the 506s don't. They sound excellent with a good soundcard too.

It's the same with the GT540M for the M11xR3. Has option of 1 GB or 2 GB. What is the point? Storing more textures? I guess the 2 GB card is not faster in any way.

Even 2630QMA slaughter i7 860 let alone faster mobile CPU.
Sandy bridge is just much faster than last gen i7. my video editing is much smoother/faster for me with 2630 than i7 870 overclocked to 3.4 Ghz (faster version of i7 860)

    I just ordered here in Austria the Mx11R3, With i7/2GB Memory/250GB Hard-disk/WLan 6210 2x2/ BT / WWAN Vodaphone / 1Year accidental Damage
I got 10% discount on that and waiting-list for over a Month.

The Upgrade to 8GB Memory's would cost about 450€+, i ordered 2x4Gb 1333 DDr3 SORAMS for 70€ from another retailer. Thats the way you can save money here. :)

    Alienware WirelessHD method revealed
Built in wireless HD card will cost 59$ and alienware says it will require this too (200$) Amazon.com: VIZIO XWH200 Universal Wireless HD Video and Audio Kit (Black): Electronics

This exact receiver was listed on the m14x page

Not sure if i want Wireless HD anymore..... it cost 260$ + 10ms latency, might as well just plug long hdmi cable when playing on the big screen

i know that there are other wirelessHD receivers with 1ms lag only but not sure if they work with alienware wireless HD because they only listed Vizio XWH200 as an option

just a warning for everyone wireless HD sucks for gaming (it's being advertised as fast 10ms only ! lol....) , there is confirmed 10ms Lag with any receiver at minimum, signal drops when you move a little away from the receiver range , some even perform worse than the one recommended by dell. if you want similar device but that actually work for gaming (lag free less than 1ms tested) here you go

Cost 130$ in amazon (USB charged no need for power adapter) works with any hdmi device (consoles/pc/ipad) no software/setup required

it also pass walls cross the rooms unlike wireless HD so it should really be good stable connection if it's that strong.
"The transmitter can be USB-powered when using with PC/Laptop. It also comes with a power adaptor for using with other HD devices like Blu-ray players. Plug & Play; the transmitter and receiver automatically detects and connects to each other"

Alienware changed the prices for the wireless HD option now, sorry but 10ms wireless lag + HDTV ms lag (Usually HDTVs are much slower than computer Monitors) = unplayable games to me

WirelessHD allows gaming & media play back with uncompressed, Full HD resolutions, latency under 10ms, and the same frame rate & picture quality as a wired connection.

    Internal WirelessHD Transmitter
Internal 60GHz WirelessHD Transmitter [Add $99.00 or $3.00/month1]
    WirelessHD Experience Bundle

Internal 60GHz WirelessHD Transmitter and VIZIO XWH200 Universal Wireless HD Video and Audio Kit
    [Add $288.99
    or $8.00/month1]
Convert your entire A/V setup with WirelessHD technology!

It's only good for watching movies/media not gaming due the 10ms lag imo, i'll get the other option i listed in my previous comment i think.

The only difference would be seen at very high resolutions or with insane AA applied. Neither of which these laptops would be doing.....so the only REAL difference is they hose you for additional $$

M14x GTX 460m... Umm ok? I just went to Alienware M14x Laptop Details | Dell

Started building my M14x and clicked the help me choose and it has 555m vs GTX 460m. Either they might release an option for the GTX 460 at launch or mabye later like what they always do after ppl like me buy the computer and have it for a month or 2.

I clicked link Rev. No 460 available. Remember this is not a MXM machine. So you can't change out the video card once received.

I am still confused as to 1.5 vs 3.0 gb ram.

It is simply them using bigger numbers to make you think it is better so you will pay them more money. You will be extremely hard pressed to find a scenario in which the difference in the amount of vram will make any measurable difference in performance. Until proven otherwise I am advising anyone who asks me to get the 1.5 GB of vram and use the money somewhere else

Under the GPU section of your configuring there is blue txt at the top " help me choose" click it. Under compare there is 1.5gb/3.0gb 555m vs 1.5gb/3.0gb GTX 460m.

What I'm saying is if the option isn't added at launch for the GTX 460m which I doubt they will, these a$$#*?es will make it an option down the road after it's too late to return your M14x. Don't believe Alienware would do that? Look at their track record for that kind of crap.

Edit: here is a link to it. Click the compare section of the page. Note that this is for the M14x on it's configure page.

Guys, to see the GT 555m and GTX 460m on the M14x:
    - go to configure a system
    - go to the graphics card selection part
    - click on "help me choose". You'll get a new window/tab
    - In that new window/tab, click on "compare side-by-side"
    - There you see a 555m compared to a 460m

WHY DID DELL PUT THAT THERE?!?!?! A 460m option in the future?!

For those that will probably say.. "Dell just put the 460m there as a comparison for you" Dell doesn't do that if the gpu isn't an option for the system. Look at the xps 17"(also has the 555m gpu) do the same steps in the configure page and click the help me choose under video options. It only lists the gpu's available for the xps 15" and 17".

The GTX 460 is coming in the M14x soon or sometime before 2012 I would bet.

I very much doubt you'll see the 460m in the m14x. Would be nice, but I just don't think it's going to happen.

If they were going to give the option of a 460m, the current card wouldn't be a 555m.

Its all about marketing ploy. It extends product life cycle through upgrading and intends to expand customer base and help to clear inventory for new gen gpu. Either they release a 460m m14x or jumping ship to m17x r4. Dell, i am waiting patiently

No, what they are trying to do is get you to decide, do I need a 460m? If so then instead of the 1199 m14x you need the m17x...

That's exactly what they are doing.

So it seems like on the US website, you can only get the m11x R1 or the m11x R3. The R2 got pulled, eh? Everybody was expecting the R1 to get pulled.
I guess they figured that nobody would want the 1st gen i-Core procs and preferred to give customer the option to pick between a REALLY cheap option (C2D in the R1) or the newest, more pricy option (R3).

make sure you refresh your page, they are updating as people are checking it out, I got alot of links to the m15x when looking at the 14x and after a few minutes and a refresh, the links and info was fixed.
