Ok all.. Stupid question... The M14x will run DDR3 1333 right? I can't imagine why it won't, but it ain't an option.

So, is there WirelessHD for the m11x R3? That would be an awfully nice feature considering the screen size. I'm leaning towards the m11x (10 hours of battery?!), but the m14x is still a consideration as I'm not sure how long I'll be able to look at an 11" screen.

I have 3 sets of the Bose and love em, but I'm old (too close to 40) and don't care that much about the sub...

So i ordered a top spec M11x R2 (I7 640um,335gt,8mb ram, 500gig hd) for $999 US. The new near min spec R3 (i5 2537, 6gb ram, 350 gig hd and 540m nvidia) for $1079. I can still cancel my order. Is the R3 much of an upgrade? Should I cancel and get the R3?

Normally I would ask if this was a serious question, but seeing as you are new I will directly answer you question. Yes you should cancel it. The Video card in the new M11x is much better as well as the battery life. Up to 10hours is what I have been seeing from posts. You can get coupons etc to get the price down.

If you wanted to wait till I get my M14x I could sell you my M11x R2 I7 for 850. Very good condition lightly used. Just if you're interested :)

Well since the new i7 all support 1600Mhz memory I dont see why dell would sell you 1333Mhz ram!
But yes it will work just fine.
Damn with the price of the m14x Im tempted to sell my M15x and grab an actually portable Alienware notebook!

Did I see someone with a coupon that gave them $350 dollars off?!?! If so, care to share? If that's for real, I'm putting an order in today (and my bank account will suffer the consequences...).

Yep, I just found that too. The code (FHRRHN2JSKLHDL) is $350 off $1459+ and it works, so I hope to get myself a sweet, top-spec m11x R3.

WOW! The Canadian price is excellent!

Screen upgrade is dirt cheap too. I love the fact that it already comes as i7-2nd gen/500gb/4g ram! 1249$ for it with the screen upgrade included is a good price for me.

I was expecting them to jack up the screen price to 150$ and keep 2gb ram/250gb HD in it to milk our money. Glad they've finally changed that dirty business tactic with the M14X.

Speakers would be best if they translated SPDIF input, since the M18x has SPDIF output.

    Logitech Z906 to get that.

If a rep gives me 5% plus 3% for the credit plan it's a done deal but we'll see if they can live with that. Sadly I'm betting the 485M sli may be a bit later than the day of release. We'll see.

That's odd. Both the 3 and 4 year warranty extensions are the same price @ 294$. If you're considering upgrading, get it before they change it lol (for the M14X).

Anyone have a working coupon for the M14X? I just toyed around with an order which came to 1500$+ and the coupon didn't work, sadly :( I take it that's an M11X coupon only then?

Canadians can now order immediately (if you go through the link I quoted not far back) and the shipping date is decent (May 9th). I don't know why some R3 users are getting 1 month+ wait ...ouch.

The price in singapore is damn expensive for both m11x and m14x. I think I will give up to buy a m11x in singapore.

I'm in the US...note also that it ONLY works on the m11x.

Edit: I just looked at it again and it only gave me $310 off on the m11x R2 (you can get to it by modifying the link); it probably was that way a while ago and I just might not have noticed it. I would suspect this is because Dell claims there's already $40 instant savings when you buy one. Also, the system itself has to be $1459 for the coupon to work, not the system plus accessories. We'll just have to see what that coupon does for the R3...

if the m18x offers gpu switching for the 6970 cf, i'll probably be selling my brand new sager (literally maybe a week old lol) and jumping ship to this 18" beast with a possible m11x as well (for portability/ battery life.. this or an ipad)

    Hey Guys ---

I'm @ the customization page for the M14X in Canada, however I need assistance in several aspects of the customization (buying a week from now).

    ---

    Wireless Card:
    - Intel® Ultimate N WiFi Link 1000 a/g/n 1x2 (Stock)
    or
    - Intel® Ultimate N WiFi Link 6205 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO Technology (+30.00)

*Will this upgrade affect my download/speed speeds or just the signal strength?

    ---
    Wireless HDMI:
    - Internal WirelessHD Technology - FullHD Video Transmitter (+59.00)

*I'll need a transmitter/receive for the TV, correct? Are they generally pricey?

    ---

    Sound:
Internal High-Definition 5.1 Surround Sound Audio (Stock)
    or
    Soundblaster® X-Fi™ Hi Def Audio - Software Enabled ($20.00)

*Is the sound difference noticeably better? Worth it or just a "cash grab"?

...thanks :) I'm sure this will help many other potential buyers too.

In reality the performance difference would be small for most games, likely less than five frames per seconds on average. Same as with most VRAM doubling on the same card. Newer, more-demanding (particularly DX11) games may leas to a slightly bigger difference, but the $100 upgrade is far from necessary.

On the config page for the m11x r3 -
    16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
    Add $360.00

What could one possibly do on this machine requiring so much ram?

Going to stick with 8; (I think that's more than enough) and max out the other options. And definitely going to wait on an SSD as well. The price is not bad I think; maybe $150 more than my r2 I bought a few weeks ago!

I would have gotten only 4 GB for the m11x R3 as well, but since that coupon requires the price to be high enough, you might as well get the 8 GB. :) (If you're in the US, that is, since the coupon seems to work only there)

Since we all know what Dell's announcement is tomorrow, I think what they're really going to announce is:

"m14x now with OLED 99% color gamut 1080p screen technology and GTX 560m." :D

Hey, a boy can dream, can't he?

    Hey,
I have desktop with an i7 860, Radeon 5870, 4GB DDR3, and 1TB HDD and an M11x R2 with the i5, 4GB RAM etc. and I'm just wondering if it's worth it to sell either - or both - of those for cash to put towards an M18x with the i7 2720QM and 6970M Crossfire.
I'm wondering if the 2720QM will be faster than the 860 and the 6970Ms faster than the 5870?

    Thanks :D

All the m18x links got pulled it looks like - they're either saving this one for a simultaneous announcement, or they're releasing the m18x separately from the m11x/m14x

In games that can recognize CF, I would think the laptop would be comparable, although I'm not sure how much faster. Also keep in mind that even with the glory that is Sandy Bridge, your 860 will be quite a bit faster. Also, not all games support/use CrossFire, in which case the second card will be useless.

I'm giving my M15x to the girlfriend and ordering a new system this fall. I really hope AW has a system with a 480/485m in it, so I can stick with them. I love my M15x, but I'd love a 485m even more for longevity/performance reasons.
