The presentation was most unprofessional. My dear students release much better presentations with (also) much better social interacting with the audience and with the presented products. Where is the 'emotional inteligence' of this guy? Very unprepared. Bad selling...

If it helps, the machine runs fine and I haven't had any hang-ups running games with the 460m. Who knows, maybe someone will perfect a 485m upgrade, but until then, you won't be disappointed in the performance, especially if you are using this laptop on the go.

That whole thing was nearly pointless, no real questions were answered and the only new information was that it's set for a "Sometime in May" release.

They said it can support 3D in external monitors, does that go for Blueray movies too or just gaming? I've seen some machines specifically note 3D Blueray when selecting a drive. Does anyone know if the Blueray drives need to be specified?

Will the 485s be available in SLI and how will they be powered? The Clevos need 2 AC adapters, but they're also running the desktop processors.

    And When in May?

It's DEFINATELY time for some M14x and M18x subforums now... MODERATORS, PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Virtually the whole of the main Alienware forum is absolutely overrun with threads on these two new machines and whilst I'm as interested as everyone else, it's just getting silly.

Quit holding out on everyone and give us some new subforums!!!!

    Those wondering about the weight...

16 pounds is most likely including the INfamous A/C adapter, 330W, most likely 3 ~ 5 pounds by itself, so that would explain the 11 pounds stated in the manual...

    Just a thought...

We're probably not getting subforums until the first user comes here with pictorial evidence of an m14x. It's available to order, but until someone actually owns one, it's still speculation.

Since the gallery shows images of an m11x, perhaps the m14x is just a conspiracy and those trying to order the "m14x" are really just signing up to be abducted by Alienware double agents (or actual aliens). Think MK Ultra, they're going to be test subjects for the m18x, whether they like it or not.

There was plenty of unexpected (pre)views of the M18X, in UK, in Canada, in Australia, like if the guys at Dell were trying to see how it will look when online...

Then, they kinda got caught in the act posting those pages... ...which have then been right away removed from our spying eyes...

And 3 would make no sense; you wanna go with pairs, as mem is dual channel capable...

2 underneath and two below the keyboard I'd say...

With the m18x, Alienware needs to rely on their competitive advantage: case design and build quality.

You can buy laptops with desktop processors and dual 485m's. AW is not the most powerful laptop in the universe, despite the marketing. Perhaps the 11 and 14 inch models more credibly hold that title, but definitely not their big boys.

There's also definitely some reason Dell is shying away from the 485m; I'm assuming it's a business thing and not a technical thing, which is typical of greedy Dell. They're probably not happy with the deal Nvidia would give them for supply.

Since Dell bought them out, AW has really been behind on the technology curve, but always offered substantially higher quality product than the competition. That's the advantage they have to keep, and it looks like the m18x will do just that.

I mean come on, would you rather have a Clevo fugbox or the sexy aluminum AW?

That may have been a pre-production model, they didn't actually measure the temperature of the components (just the case), someone's already stated that the wrist area (where the heating was) is over the HDD in which case there's little that can be done, and a loud fan is to be expected seeming as it has to cool both a full power processor and a 555M in a small space.

Indeed. Anyone who thinks Toshiba laptops look anything better than a pile of plastic needs to be slapped. The whole concept of 'to each their own' can be completely ignored here; Toshiba's are some of the ugliest devices in existence, full stop.

Well to measure anything beside an Alienware would make that laptop look ugly lol..

The reason why I think sager laptops are to simple was because I kept reading stuff about really high-speced Sager laptops so I started thinking "What is this Sager and why does it seem like a really bad- machine?!" since I've never heard of it before..So i googled it, and alas, thinking it would look as awesome or at least nearly as awesome as an Alienware, I got disappointed when I saw the square laptop that has absolutely nothing unique in its exterior..At least Toshiba and MSI "tried" to look cool! I get they failed at it badly but at least they tried! lol

Well yeah..I guess..I was just expecting to look..well..different I guess..I guess I was just expecting it to look different cause I was kinda thinking "Hey, this Sager seems like an Alienware rival, looking at the specs"..But then when I saw it, I guess it's meant to attract a different market maybe? For people who don't wanna look as "flashy" but have awesome specs..I was just expecting something different.. :)

I agree on this..and the G53SW is it? Well it's the 15" version of the G73..Those look pretty cool, though I don't think they have backlights? Or if they did, it most certainly isn't customizable..

i dun think so sager is that ugly :) and i dun think so we need to carry heavy and bulky machines (Desktop Replacement) outside and showoff to people around us to c how cool is that ! i think i would be the performance which will highlight how cool is your laptop .... i am using a m15x myself and i am having a sager np7280 and i dun have any problem with bulky and heavy case of it becuz it really satisfy me with it performance...i am getting average of 55 frame something at crysis 2 and 1 at very high settings with 1080 res...and thats important...it costed me around 3500 dollar ! and finally Y should i order a overpriced m17x or m15x only becuz of its beauty, not the performance that giving me....m17x is too slow !!! with single GPU and a non desktop-CPU and now they pretend agian they gave the most powerful laptop on the surface !!! I AM NOT AGAINST to it, but its kind of greedy DELL advertisement to sell their alienware machines....but the fact is of course my own sager with core i7 970 - 6970m crossfire and 2x500gb with 4gb ssd at RAID-0 and bluray plus Bigfoot wireless killer is times and times more faster than m17x !
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BTW did they say what CPU AND GPU they would use in m18X??? i just readu up 2 4ghz? but is it desktop cpu or 2nd gen sandy bridge 2920xm ??? how about GPU?? ANY OPTION FOR 485 SLI or 6970m Cross??? i guess in this case they would need a higher power consumption for the use of adapter.

It has nothing to do with being flashy. It's about design language. Clevo's apparently is "fugbox" and Toshiba's apparently is "craptasticplastic."

Apple laptops are the furthest thing from flashy (minimalist, industrial design) yet they are an engineering masterpiece.

The point is, I'll consider other manufacturers when other manufactureres understand the importance of design and aesthetics.

Also, a black AW with the lights off isn't as gaudy as people make it out to be.

First of all, please use paragraphs, it makes your posts much more legible. As for your Sager being, "many times faster" than an M17x, you're of course very wrong. The M17x-R3 in particular is a single GPU system with a 6970M graphics card which would give it approximately 50-65% of your systems performance. But that is apples to oranges really.

Given your particular configuration, an M18x with 6970M Xfire + 2920xm will beat your system in performance, features, design and build quality while costing less and using a mobile processor. How's that feel?

That would be great if the price difference is great..But I checked out Sager's 15.6" notebooks and they cost $2000+ with best processor and graphics..Compared to say M14x at $1720..(I know not exactly the same but if we're to consider performance, which is almost the same, and screen size, which is barely different) The prices don't fall far from each other..M14 being cheaper actually..regardless of the slightly better GPU of the sager..

P.S. I have nothing against Sager, I love their notebooks, I mean the specs are monstrous! But the looks just don't cut it for me..I mean it doesn't scream "Use me to play Crysis at 50FPS!!" You know what I mean..lol :p

Wow you must be an artist or u just do your research or something..Talk about detail lol..Well I just wanna say Alienware with lights off are definitely not that flashy..It's the lighting that makes it flashy (and cool IMO)..But the Dell/Alienware graphics, I mean the pictures in the website, totally make the laptop look better than it actually is..I mean the laptop looks great, but not as great as it looks in the pictures! lol, it's like a girl in a magazine, she looks perfect but when you see her in person she looks totally different.. :)
