I wish the make m15x slimer lighter (under 7.5lbs) & with dual hard drives
& a even better screen would be a Plus
that would be awsome![]()
-

Thinner design - you sacrifice cooling
Dual HDD - heavier
better Screen is always possible
or Alienware can do all this and just blow our minds and prove me wrong -
They could make it thinner by doing all that but they'd have to sacrifice build quality in the process by using an all plastic design. Would anyone really welcome that? It would become a glorified Asus at that point. -
Not necessary, they can use Kevlar, carbon enclosure...
This way, the case would be very strong without taking much space. They would be able to improve cooling with this space.
Of course you can add 1000 bucks for the config...but it would be amazing.
Can't wait for the CES to start! Hope we won't be disappointed... -
SB will require a new motherboard/chipset. But that's not to say it couldn't be fit into the same chassis.

Any news on the M11x?
-
Hey guys got a question, if I buy a alienware M17X, and the upgrades comme out, can I upgrade it by sending it to AW? And if so can I have discounts in the new parts by replacing it with the old parts?
-
Upgades if available can be bought and installed by Dell.
Many upgrades can be done by the user as well and maintain the warranty.
If you buy dell parts (upgrades) they will be covered under the laptop warranty.
Dell does not typically give discounts on upgrade parts, you can sell your old parts. -
-
if you even think you will be able to upgrade the GPU
even if they say it will happen, just forget about it
when its time for it to happen they will make excuse
part is out of stock
why cos the people who are buying new laptops then will get
1st choice, cos the ones who already bought it
are already suckerd in -
I'll explain better so I can have more choices of purchase of the M17X. I live in Portugal and alienware it's been selling for the first time in my country not by Dell directly, but by Fnac, it's a good shop and now it's giving a good discount with 10% discount from a M17X with 2500 euros as a price, the specs are these:
Intel® Core i7-740QM Quad-Core
6 GB DDR3-1333
1 TB HDD
LED UXGA 1920x1200
Dual ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5870 Crossfire
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
They offer now a vodafone pen with no charge(with the tarifary as our choice) and a discount of 349 euros in the laptop, so what do you think? What should I do ? This is becoming a hard choice. -
-
hopefully they will follow with a 435gt or 445gt
-
Maybe I should of waited till Christmas time to order.
-
-
hopefully with the new processors that they are going to fix the hinge problem!
-
i should have waited as well but you know what by the time we get ready to buy again a new all together m11x might be out not just a change in cpu.
-
If that's the case then it's 'nice' but no biggie.
One really needs to see this complemented with a GPU upgrade too.
There's other things too like USB 3.0 and SPID but guessing that's not an optional upgrade on an existing motherboard like a CPU increment.
Anyway, I do like a bit of raffia work around the edges to keeps things relevant. [Upgrade approved by mum]
Compare Intel® i7-640UM with i7-680UM -
It a very small upgrade, is like going from the current i5 to the current i7, but is a good option, faster (even a smaller boost) is always welcome...
-
the CPU and 'NVIDIA GT 440M 1GB' from the new 17" XPS would be nice
-
from what I've heard ( I heard alot of things lately
) is that the GPU's in the new XPS lines are DDR3 or GDDR3 not GDDR5, so wouldnt that be a downgrade?
some people have said to have for example: 2GB or 3GB GPU it can onlymean that its DDR3 so it might be a downgrade from what most of have -

I want my R3, with the 460 or 470 GPUs and USB 3 now!!!
Been waiting for a year now lol
Sandy Bridge would be nice as well -
m15x needs RGB Leds screen with 1200p res.
m17x needs 460 or higher SLI. 6xxx would work too. -
-
-
AMD bah, I want NVIDIA GPUs lol
-
-
I just took the plunge and got an OEM 920xm.
I'll wait til this time next year before I upgrade to SB. -
Nah, it was a wise decision. With the OC'ing capabilities of the current platform, I doubt he will regret the purchase any time soon.
-
When is buying a 920XM a bad idea?
-
The 920 XM is great, there is no reason to not get it. Also, it's very important to not over estimate the performance of SB. Though it may turn out to be an amazing platform, it has not been proven so yet and even if it is. The current platform is amazing and will still be for quite some time after SB.
-
As it should be. Just wanted to make sure people didn't assume that my stand on buying a non-SB was a bad idea... 920XM's are awesome even though they aren't SB's.

spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
So any way, if R3 is in development, when can wee expect it to hit market?

im getting one -
Eat your heart out lol
Dell Alienware SX17 mobile phone -
is that real !!!!!! do want !
-
I highly doubt it, after it said wrote moves instead of movies.
I call shinanigans!
Nice try. -
-
I noticed the same thing lol. Plus it would be pointless to market an AW phone since AW itself is a niche brand. Unless Dell just rebadged their existing Dell Venue phone. -
Now that's a cool idea for a cellephone

Got some interesting news from theinquirer.net:
It seems that Acer and Gateway is already producing some limited Sandy Bridge laptop and that AMD has finally released their first 6000M series.
This might be good news as it might mean that AW will be able to produce Sandy Bridge with AMD 6000M series laptops before CES in January.
