Hi guys. It is actually quite easy. I removed that stupid plexy glass from my Clevo yesterday. At least for me, all I had to do was remove the front bezel, heat the borders of the plexy glass with a hair dryer and gently remove the glass with a thin blade. Remove it as you go along with the hair dryer and it actually didn't take more than 5 minutes. It was glued to the bezel with double sided tape. Once you heat it, if becomes soft and easy to remove. I removed the remainder glue residues from the bezel with sintetic thinner.

Probably, but not necessarily. Don't forget that the Samsung is RGB LED and the Chi Mei is WLED.

Does the Samsung have 2 connectors on the screen? If so, it is the end of the cable that connects to the mobo that needs rewiring.

The pinouts GalaxySII posted don't seem to match the wiring, but I might be wrong. I don't know if it will work, maybe the mobo only sends signals if the cable is attached to the screen, but if not, turn the computer on, grab a multimeter and check the voltages. That would at least allow you to identify which wires have "juice" and it would be a good start.

Just find out what is difference

    WLED = white LED backlight

RGBLED = a three color LED backlight (red, green, blue)

Yes there are two connectors .. you didn't check the pictures?
Needs rewiring but which pin to where ..

    EDIT
I am not gonna remove plastic glass until I get the samsung screen working 100%

Yeah once u will get the screen and cable you will understand..

Of course they dont match cos i just made pictures of 40 pin of connector of my acer and split to 30 and 10
and compare how we could customize and merge these two samsung cables to acer mobo connector..

@ Galaxy to much talking and no action I am getting impatient here if you have everything to make this happen what you waiting for ? :D

is obvious what is ground and what is power for the backlit just looking at the 30 pin connector if you connect those the screen may work without the PWM i believe it may work at full brightness :)

Ok, recap (I'm getting lost here).

How many wires does the Samsung screen have in total, including both connectors? I know pins are 20+30=50 but not all of them are connected. However, if there are more than 40 wires, fitting them into a 40 pin connector might be difficult, since we would have to "throw away" some wires.

Remember that we want the screen, not only to work but be 100% functional in terms of brightness, contrast and colour rendition. For screens we crappy colour and contrast we already have the Chi Meis, thank you.

That is THE big question! That is all we need now to know, once and for all, it the bloody thing will work. I was thinking: are there any manufacturers who make compatible panels with the AW series? Maybe it would be easier to try and get the pinouts from them. Maybe are beloved Chi Mei has a compatible screen with the LTN184HT02. :D LTN only means it was manufactured by Samsung. Our adored Chi Mei  , for example, is N. Here's the full list:

    Acer - L
    AU Optronics - B
    Chi Me - N
    Chunghwa - CLAA
    HannStar - HSD
    Hitachi - TX
IBM ( IDTech) - IT or IA
    LG Philips - LP
    LG Display - LP
    Matsua - ED
    Mitsubishi - AA
    NEC - NL
    Quanta - QD
    Samsung - LT or LTN
    Sharp - LQ or LM
Sanyo / Torisan - TM or LMJK
    Toshiba - LTM or LTD
    Unipac - UB

The problem is that for screen sellers everything is compatible as long as you have the cash and they have the stock.

    Yeah exactly
I have that link of web they have list of compatibility
Pantallas de Portátiles 18,4" LED 2 Conectores
unfortunately is only sony laptops .. specialy made for AWs
There MIGHT be chance I we find specification data sheet of motherboards and their connectors ..both

    EDIT

GUYS THIS IS IT a BIG step forward !
I have found THE BEST website in the world !!! ---->>> http://lqv77.com/
You can find all schematics pinouts diagrams OMG everything !!!

Here is pinout of both connectors (MOTHERBOARD)

    http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6779/pinout.jpg

here is switching between EAGLES 1,2,3 so pannels.. Eagle 1 is one lamp Eagle 2 is dual lamp Eagle 3 LED
    Mine is EAGLE 3
This switching is if Vaio AW user wants to replace between LCD panels

You're a freaking genious! :notworthy: How on earth did you manage to find those guys? Still, no word on voltages, or did you find that information somewhere else?

    Edit:
I just saw the word "INV" spread around the schematics. Please don't tell me that it's short for "INVerter", because that would mean those are the schematics for the CCFL version.

    I have sent email
Someone who understands deeply with schematis diagrams can say but there is 3.3 volts uses in every panels I bet

No that schematics is for all those 3 displays so with inverter and without
That is why there is switching btw screens
This is Vaio AW series motherboard schema you know

This is (LED) motherboard connector 30pin from cable and active pins matches check

But there are few pins that I don't know where should be and those odds and evens number 3 negative and positive .. There is nowhere pin to rewire to !

Yep, the odds and even no. 3 have nowhere to go. There is also the issue of the control signal pins, which doesn't seem to exist on the Sony mobo and those 4 ground pins on the 40 pin connector.

well ignoring that and testing is your only option if the screen doesn't work properly at least you not going to kill your mobo because we got the right pinouts ;)

I agree with Speedy. If you ignore them, the worst it can happen is that the screen won't work or will not work properly. Voltages will be no problem either, since it is the mobo that is supplying the voltage to the screen and not the other way round. I believe this is as far as we can go, unless you know some electronics geek who comes up with a better solution.

Now if only Dell would pay a bit more attention, and think about offering this screen as an option. Actually, has anyone tried asking Bill or any of the other Dell employees around these parts if they could put this into the loop?

yeah the problem is that the tech is old already that screen is from a 2006 Sony model when they was using 30pin connectors and I believe Samsung develop that screen only for Sony now if we put it this way we are still using old tech on the actual screens something really depressing if you ask me

lately the laptop manufacturers care more about things not to important as the screen and that is sad too

Bill is just another employee I doubt he's voice can be heard on something that delicate I am sure there is a group of people deciding what they are going to put on the machines but that has to be more private :)

And + pin 35 pwm control signal of LED converter and 36 Enable control signal of LED converter ..

    I see three possibilities:

    - The same cable was designed to be used with CCFL and LED (which doesn't seem logical)
    - You've got the wrong schematics
    - I could be totally wrong in which case I have no idea whatsoever why on earth that pin exists.

No, there are 3 different cables which goes to same conns. depend of model
So that's why the wire layout is different . i checked cable for one lamp with this rgb one they are different pin layout
schema is ok cos i checked connectors model number and matches..
But what MORE worries me again that there are another few more pins on 30 pin conn :D
aah am getting crazy about this..
therw are 38 pins .. aaaa dearr me .. if u check ON THE connector
31-32 earth 33-34 earth too then 35 36 (one upper and one lower ) and then 37-38 upper llower..

dells engineering department should give you guys a shout IMO..
So I was checking into some of the case mods from way back when, as I'm planning to (eventually/hopefully) mill out a few parts in aluminum on my CNC and then have them plated in something nice.. black chromium maybe,, definitely interested in making an aluminum bezel and palmrest at the very least.
Anyways if I end up taking off the plexi to install a custom bezel, why not take a crack at installing a better quality screen, so my question is when you Gods of DIY get the those samsung panels working, do you think it will be fairly similar to do the same but with a 1920x1200 RGBLED like the ones on this website?

Asus X93S 18.4" WUXGA (Glossy) (LED backlight) LCD Screens, (New) most screens $345 to $455

I'll look into it more myself tomorrow (gotta sleep, work in 5 hours) but just knowing if this would be a fruitless attempt or not would help a lot :D

Last thing; that panel is just for reference, using the search tool on that site for 1920 x 1200 brings to bring up a list of panels and then searching that page for 18.4" ones.. would any one be easier to retrofit into an m18xR2 than the others? Sorry for the long posts I have been/will be posting.. Huge tech noob, thank goodness for forums like this

If any of these ideas are just stupid, no need to try to explain to me why :D
just say so and I'll try to research more before posting.
(btw this project is at least a four months away.. I'll want to enjoy my first Alienware before potentially destroying it :p also I'll want to play with different concepts for the )

actually there is no better 18" screen than the one one the Sony Vaio is RGB backlit and 112% color gamut all the other screens are rated at 72% color gamut and low brightness so the chance to get a better 18" screen is only one

is not like the M18X screen is bad because I love it when I had mine but it could be better

is funny you mention working with aluminum I order 2 panels for the M18X from parts people to mod them maybe anodized maybe powder coat but is going to be a nice project I also want to remove the glass and build a bezel with aluminum and possibly engrave some alien letters to it ;)

Thanks for clarifying about the screen speedy! That was everything I needed to hear :D and for the case mods inscribing alien letters and such, that's pretty much exactly what I had in mind ;) unfortunately my homemade CNC only has accuracy up to about within .05-.1 of an inch so I'm waiting until September before I start milling,, (I'll have a nice real CNC then for making guitar bodies)
But I will be creating the CADs within a week of receiving the laptop ^.^
    Thanks again!

Nice!. Did you put the glass back in ? or is it removed for good ? Id like to be able to wrap the carbon along the top but wasn't sure if I could tuck behind without removing glass. Can you tell me how you got it out ?

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

The glass is removed and that custom bezel put in place.

    A few questions:

Once the glass is removed can you put it back in ?
How did you paint the vent outlets ? are those not plastic ?
Did you cure the coat in a oven ? or thermal light ? how long did you cure it for ?

    Thanks!

To powder coat it you just have to remove the top and bottom panel which will be separate from the glass/palmrest/motherboard etc etc.

The glass is attached to the screen and generally breaks when you remove it as there is so much glue holding it on that it will snap in the process.

The difference in reflection between glass and no glass is so dramatic that if your tired of the mirror effect then it is well worth it .

    Thanks!.

So I can remove the casing without removing the glass. Did you paint the vents with a different type of paint ?
