    Definitely worth every penny.

I had a targus messenger bag and that was KILLING me with my M15x. This backpack evens the spread to both my shoulders so the strain isn't as bad or painful. Definitely glad i bit the bullet on this and bought the bag.

Does any one know of a backpack that can fit the m17x in it plus much more than the orion can? I have been really pushing the limits of this bag and need something that is bigger and can hold more.

slappa's koa mask. it has a huge main compartment (which kind of killed it for me - i have lots of small things in my bag) and lots of pockets and pouches.

there's one for sale in the classifieds... :D

The Orion that is most often referred to/sold on various sites is the big one that can unzip fully for checkpoints at airports. Can anyone confirm that the one on newegg has either the wrong picture or if there's actually 2 types in the wild: Newegg.com - Suggested Products

I'd prefer the one on newegg, since it looks to be smaller/thinner/slimmer so it doesn't look like I'm hiking.

Oh. Do you think it is really a alienware backpack? Cause in dell's site. The only one displayed there is the one with the three compartments.

They're both made by Mobile Edge. One has 2 compartments (newegg), everywhere else has 3 (dell, amazon, ebags, etc). I'd like the 2compartment one if it really exists in the wild, cuz it's slimmer profile for my small torso :)

Wait. The one you bought had the 2compartment picture, or 3? The one I see on newegg has 2 compartments, which is what I might be interested in.

Hm, so you got tricked. I'd rather have the slimmer looking one though.

Could you comment on the padding at the base (bottom) of the backpack? Also, whats the gap between the bottom of the laptop compartment and the base of the backpack? Like, how much buffer would the backpack have if the backpack fell down vertically with the lappy inside?

Padding is ok in the backpack except the bottom has no padding. I added padding to the bottom of mine. And the gap between the bottom of the laptop compartment and the bad is about 3/4 in.

No padding at the bottom? Lame. 70 bucks and they still couldn't figure it out? No thank you.

Off to do some more shopping then...

It depends on which xps backpack. The one that came with the M1730 was awesome and does fit the M17x.

I sold mine to a coworker like a fool to buy the 2 compartment mobile edge orion. The orion wore holes in the bottom within a couple months and my M17x keeps getting the corners nicked because of the lack of padding. The XPS backpack was much sturdier, too bad it says xps everywhere and not alienware.
I was thinking about the 3 compartment mobile edge since its a slightly different build. Anyone have experience with the 3 compartment that can comment on the wear on the bottom after a few months?

I have the 3 compartment one. The strap is tearing along the seam. I have no holes in the bottom but thats because I stuck a piece of fairly thick padding there. Its ok but I would rather something that doesnt need me to add padding and that has a little more room for books.

    edit:
It is a good backpack that is higher quality than most you can buy at walmart and other stores, but it is lacking in padding under the laptop compartment. I would give it 3.5/5 stars rating.

Well I just got my dell xps backpack. It has about 3 inches of padding under the laptop compartment. If you want something that is big this is a good case. I like it better than my orion so far.

That's true. That's why everyone should get North Face or OGIO or Dakine, cuz they look like regular college student backpacks. Too bad none of them have adequate padding.

So this Alienware logo that scratches easily... Can ya pop it off easily? When you remove it, what kind of mark remains? If I can remove the main logo without it leaving some unsightly indentation, I'll likely buy the backpack.

Just out of curiosity, if yours doesn't leave the desk why did you get a laptop?

I personally switched from desktop (where it truly didn't leave the desk :p) to laptop because I need it in two places at two desks, LOL.

Also I'm in a time crunch here and can't look through the 24 pages of posts (I will later tonight)

Can anyone suggest a GOOD, PADDED messenger bag or laptop bag that'll fit the m17x r3, charger, mouse, and maybe some papers?

Brenthaven, my man(or woman, but that sounds weird to say "my woman" lolz). Any of their bags or backpacks is great. I have the Metrolite Titanium backpack behind me, so don't order that one cuz it's too small for anything over 15inches, even though it says "Fits up to 17inches." All their bags are heavily padded. This one isn't AS padded as their other products, but thats simply cuz it's slimmer (and like a 4th of the price of Brenthaven's other stuff). I also had the Metrolite II bag/messenger, which has like 1.5-2" of thick+durable(aka high density?) padding on all 6 sides. I donated it to my local thrift store though, cuz it was too big and rectangle for my flavor. PM me for more details. I swear, Brenthaven should sponsor me for all this "marketing" I've basically been doing for their brand lolz.

I just got my old XPS bag back and it is so much better than my Orion backpack. The insert that holds the cd's and pens are missing since I got it back, but the build quality and cushion is way better.

    Guys,

Try the Beklin Evo 17 model ($29 bucks when on sale). Perfect fit for m17x. Padding is 1 inch thick all around. Before this I had the Swiss Gear IBex, did not fit, forced it and got a paint chip. Then I bought the Alienware Orion, padding was poor and quality was very subpar compare to the IBex. After a few days, more paint chip from the bottom of the bag. The bag was big for my requirements, I just wanted a bag for carrying the m17x nothing else.

Then came the Belkin Evo, tons of padding, almost like a custom fit just for the m17x. Quality is on par with the Orion.

They already have quite a few 18 inchers listed on Newegg.

For my M17x I personally wanted a Swissgear/Wenger as they're affordable and I REALLY like their quality... I got

    Newegg.com - Wenger Black/Gray 17" LEGACY Computer Case Model WA-7497-14F00

For $56 shipped.. Looked around a few places.. Its small enough and "Plain" enough to not scream expensive laptop inside but its lined with loads of padding and can expand horizontally to hold LOTS of things.

Still looks like there's a laptop in there lolz.

I think I'm gonna end up buying a regular backpack (one that fits the lappy) and get a computer case/bag from Tucano or something. Maybe even the one that Brenthaven has, cuz they have lots of padding.

People are obviously going to know there is a laptop in there; What people won't know is if its a $600 HP or a $3100 Alienware :) ... I'd like to keep it that way LOL.

The only "gaming" case I'd want would be this one (or something similar) but in an obnoxious neon orange / blue / green / pink "spray paint" design or something.

If you can still find this for sale somewhere, it's great. I'd give it 10 stars out of 5. Yes, it's that damn good. I had it and then donated it. It's got 1.5"-2" thick padding, durable padding for sure, all around on all six sides. I bought it for $20 on newegg in 2007, so see if you can find it for that much. It's more like a brief case than those tacky clamshell bags. http://www.jetplanejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/brenthaven13-300x216.jpg, http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQo74RQj6X1wPFqPkzfjaiAGaEGHQtq84hjRB8HmQQXWvcxnxdgJA&t=1, http://site.unbeatablesale.com/img2007/sy2158062.jpg.

You get the idea. It's a bomba$s bag for sure mang. But once again, it's obvious there's a laptop in there heheheh.
