if it has mxm it will any notebook with mxm can as long as the bios supports it
-
-
MXM is not MXM. there are different specs/versions.
-
Well, I was going to order an m17, but looks like I am holding off now. Hopefully I can get a decent laptop with 3gb ddr, with a 64GB HDD, and possibly two ATI's in CrossFire for under $2500
-
you mean mxm 1 mxm 2 mxm 3 and mxm 4 ?
i know i was just speaking in general terms, the m17 has a werid mxmwe can have SLI
one hybrid other non hybrid
-
-
lol we can all dream cant we ?
-
This is my wishlist for said laptop:
1. i7 965 Quad CPU
2. 12 GB Trip DDR3 RAM
3. Liquid Cooling
4. Nvidia 280 SLI
5. AlienFX Lighting System
6. Thumbprint Scanner
7. OLED Screen
8. Non-Bulky Chasis
I doubt 3 & 7 would happen, but if they did...
...no questions asked, bought -

What he can get the M17... aka Ocz Whitebook from www.Xoticpc.com with what he wants for around that price, right?
Oh F's besides the SSD costing about 400 bucks a piece, I don't understand why people would get SSD -
-
The new Sager laptop came out with that very same CPU.
Linky
I think its a very good possibility
EDIT: Also...itd be foolish not to include a thumbprint scanner -
no it's not... take a look at what it takes to cool the i7. the R&D necessary to fit a premium desktop CPU into a mobile chassis is ridiculous. AW won't go through that (unless we're looking at a d900f-rebadge) with mobile Nehalem coming up fast. the QX9300 will probably be the fastest available processor for now (Intel is working on faster Penryn C2D models though).
EDIT: linky... http://www.xoticpcforums.com/showthread.php?t=4033&highlight=np9280 -
I'll tell you why: This laptop was designed to have been released in March or April of this year not in June, but sluggish sales pushed Dellienware to delay the launch and to be more aggressive on the pricing of their remaining stock.
For EMEA customers, this Alienware laptop will be the first one not manufactured / depot-serviced in Ireland, but instead in Dell's Polish facilities. -
The i7 draws too much power and limits that Sager to one GPU which means it's not the gaming machine it once was.
2xGPUs+mobile CPU > 1xGPU+desktop CPU
But if it makes you feel better there's an outline of what looks like a thumbprint reader in the wallpaper released. -
I never knew the power consumption of the i7 was so high...
..Im still satisfied with their mobile quad core to tell you the truth (just out of curiousity, what would be the performance difference?)
anddd, yes, that makes me super happy -
Ok I went back and looked at the wallpaper again, and yeah there's a tiny thing for the fingerprint reader it seems... my pic lacks resolution unfortunately so I couldn't tell from it. So I'll change my post above to "likely" for the thumb-reader.
Edit: After further examination, the opening is present on the left side too. So I think it's inconclusive, I'll change my post (again) to "unsure". -

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
He means between the I7 and the Mobile quads
-
Yup, i7 and mobile quad
-
desktop i7 and mobile quad? light years...
-
If the difference is that vast...
then how could the following be true?
2xGPUs+mobile CPU > 1xGPU+desktop CPU -
GPU is much more important for gaming than the CPU.
-
Hmm..okay I guess Im narrowing down the question xD
What advantage would the Sager have over the alienware 2 GPU mobile quad? as the alienware would have the gaming advantage
Im sorry for the bombardment of questions, just trying to learn -
well, the Clevo (Sager just slaps a badge on the barebone) would be faster in general, non-gaming usage. also, the Clevo will be faster at anything CPU-dependent, such as rendering (providing CUDA isn't an alternative - here, the AW might have the advantage if it does indeed feature two GTX 280M).
-
-
May not be done off PCMark benchmarking but it's the most complete chart I've seen and should give you a clearer picture of the processing difference:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7+965+@+3.20GHz
What it comes down to is you got to figure out for yourself what kind of processing (CPU or GPU) the applications you're going to run require and choose based on that.
But don't ignore that includes how much processing power....just because an app uses the CPU more doesn't mean it needs an i7's power.
You don't need a bucket of water to put out a candle. ;þ -
-
I assume you can do the same thing with the ATI card as well?
Thanks again for the answers man, I really appreciate it -
only waiting.... hope suprised!!
-
They just launched this new video in Alien Network. Not much to see though
http://www.alienware.com/aliennetwork/pc-gaming-channel.aspx#abovePlayer -
Missing release dates is standard fare for Alienware. -
The only thing I got out of that vid is that the new AW may be a Transformer.
Probably a Decepticon. -
-
-
Curious, what are the changes of it having a OLED screen? I doubt it myself, but hypothetically
the contrast ratios for those are ridiculous compared to any LCD, it would be a nice touch.. -
Currently way too expensive. Look at the price of the Sony XEL-1..$2500 or something for an 11" screen. And only 960x540.
OLED screens will eventually make their way into laptops, but not for a few years yet. -
I don't need a sentient computer/robot that's going to judge me when I use it to look at on the internet. ;þ -
Added a couple more to my list xD
1. i7 965 Quad CPU
2. 12 GB Trip DDR3 RAM
3. Liquid Cooling
4. Nvidia 280 SLI
5. AlienFX Lighting System
6. Thumbprint Scanner
7. OLED Screen
8. Non-Bulky Chasis
9. Vista 7 Future-Upgrade Option
10. Touchscreen (HIGHLY doubt it, but it IS a wish list..I just love the techy luxury of it)
-
i dont get the big deal with the Thumbprint Scanner?i couldn't care less, the facial recognition is so much better.
-
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
yea but you can easily BS a facial recognition on laptops, it doesn't recognize 3d just 2d imagery, so you can print out a persons face... It is just for kicks and giggles
-
i hated where they placed it on the m17. looked so out of place, it annoyed me everytime i looked at it >.>
-
Kinda agree, never understood why they dont just combine the touchpad with scanner tech
-
I just found out that Alienware is going to be at E3 to show off the "Allpowerful" laptop. This is awesome cuz im going to E3 this year
! First thing I will do is check it out, get a few pictures. Post them up here when im back
-
-
I've always wanted to go to E3, but never could find access
I live right there too xD -
Well I was going to pull the trigger on a nicely loaded m17 for around 2850 but I'll have to wait and see what 3 grand will get me on this new all powerful laptop.
-
You wont be getting the notebook the next day sooo you can consider the pictures and comments as a taste of things to come, to claim you down while you wait for (what will probably feel like a life time lol) it to arrive to you.
Edit : oh you didnt say you were getting it >.> oh well. It still stands for anyone who will! -
