Up to this point SATA has been backwards compatible.
It's never "once tech hits the market"...there's always a huge delay between when new tech comes out and when a product is available to take advantage of that tech.
SATA III will be great when SSDs are fast enough and cheap enough to make use of the 6Gbits/sec transfer.
That's a ways off too.
-
ohhhh...ha xD
-
they dont even use the Sata II 3.o gb/s
lol
usb 3.0
-
ATI cards are looking like they're out of the question with the Nvidia 9400M chipset. ;(
I'm part bummed about it and part okay because it makes for good switchable graphics. -
its the only reason im buying it lol
-
I have to say..I'm pretty psyched about the aluminum case..Ferrari's/Lamborghini's/and such exotics are the only cars that use aluminum
has that been done before on laptops? -
Mac Book unibody
-
ehhh...mac
-
That is he biggest question raised today for me. My info still tells me that Crossfire will be possible... I wouldnt discount it until it is proven technically impossible, if it is. Surely, some people will find out eventually.
-
..hopefully me ......
gimme some funding guys so i can keep both laptops for now and ill put 3870's in there
-
Nvidia has talked about getting Ion to support AMD Neo but I'm skeptical they'd let their chipset support CrossfireX.
Would be lol though....would it provide CUDA and PhysX support for ATI cards.
-
I think you should purchase a base M17 and slap that blue lid on it and sell it at auction for a nice premium or on this forum... but hey, thats just me
-
who me ?
i would love to
but i sold the blue lid its on a friends m9750 now
the support for the hinge snapped off and he needed a new lid -
So sata 3 and a new gen. CPU are more than a year away Im guessing...No need to mention USB 3.0
The only reason I mention these ..usually unimportant things is because I'm making a transition from desktop to notebook, a first for me...but I am SO damn tired of desktops that this will be a wonderful change. I'm just not experienced with notebooks as much as I'd like to be, or as much as I will be
I'm just trying to future-proof the notebook(which is impossible for technology I understand, but to a certain extent...) 3-4 years, while changing in and out GPU's/etc..
So I'm basically trying to buy one when a combination of very good/new technology is available.
Random (stupid) question that Ive always wanted to ask: performance-wise...what would be the difference between a 280 and 280M. 2 times the difference? -
lol a 280 and a mobile 280?
a world of difference -
Actually, that was what I was trying to say in a roundabout way. There's lots of goodies in the pipeline, but nothing in the short term to make me want to wait to buy my next laptop. It will be some time before all of the next generation tech hits market in the same product. It sounds like SATA III my come out in netboooks first, as it allows SATA for 1.8" drives.

Has the countdown changed? I live in the UK and I worked it out in my head that it'd be released at 8am on Tuesday, but now the timer indeicates a 3pm release on Tuesday. Maybe I just calculated wrong, but can anyone confirm?
Countdown showing: 3 days, 23 hours and 55 minutes at time of posting (3:04pm on Friday). -
I figured for 10:00 AM EST on June, 2.
U.K. is what 5 hours ahead of East Coast, U.S.? -
Yeah 5 hours. But is that the same time you'd worked out a week ago? Or even 3 weeks ago?
-
Yup.
10 char -
Now that I think about it, it may be possible for such a chipset to support Crossfire. HP was able to get licensing to have CrossfireX on an nForce motherboard in their Blackbird rig. Also, I was able to get two ATi 3870s to work in an Alienware M9750, which also used an nVidia based chipset (though a hybrid with Intel dubbed the nForce 200). It didn't scale well though, but that's probably due to the fact that I used a T5500 processor too.
But for some reason, I think this would be unlikely for this new system. -
i still say it will offer both eventually
-
Do you guys think the keypad is placed too far inwards?
M1730 has a gaming LCD, so the keypad is near the middle, but this... -
Inwards which way? Back towards the screen?
I think the larger palmrest and the shorter touch button control panel between the screen and keyboard are it's better redesigns. The old M17x had too much space above the keyboard.
Also makes for a much larger touchpad compared to the XPS M1730. -
Pretty pictures:

I hope so.
What's got me looking around for info is the G1 at the end of nVidia GeForce 9400M G1 . I don't recall ever seeing that on any of the other 9400M chipset spec sheets. -
Its just a hunch that the keypad is too close to the screen. I dont like long palmrest, cos they pass the heat right up; thats just me.
...
-
perrrrrtyyyyyyyyyyy
...why would it NOT have a thumbprint scanner :C -
wish there was no palmrest at all and the keyboard was right next to the front edge of the laptop!
BTW, on my M17 there is zero heat transmitted up to the palmrest and in fact, it stays cool to the touch even during heavy gaming. -
i second what Rob said
-
I hope skullcap is available too like it was for the M17
!
-
Can't say I'm impressed with the exterior design. I find the point at the top of the lid horrendous looking when it's open. Spec-wise, though, holy **** (though I'm still a little sad AW didn't use dual GDDR5 4870's).
-
im not sure it will....
-
Skullcap better be available when it comes out.....
-
look at the lid design
-
I see the lid design, im just saying skullcap is really cool so im really hoping it comes out with it
!
-
I think im the only one that prefers ripley xD
-
i like ripley on this notebook only this one
-
I guess we will have to wait and see what designs are available for purchase when it comes on on June 2nd.
-
I agree with you, on this one the Ripley looks good.
I still prefer the Skullcap though. -
skullcap would be fugly on this laptop - it totally wouldn't fit the rest of the styling. ripley ftw.
-
I've been a fan of the skullcap even though I've never owned one. After looking at these pics I believe the ripley fits better also.
-
i have always said "whats AW with out skull cap "
i would love to see skullcap on this but i just dont know how it will turn out.
AW always markets their laptop with skull cap and they did not do this in the pictures. So it seems this may not have skullcap. -
Im still hoping it will have skullcap
!
-
i do to
-
Wow, just caught up from yesterday.
Awesome, I can't wait to order one of these next week!!!!
(unless a SLI 280m config is $4000, then Sager looks better.) -
