That has nothing to do with Allan or his team so I don't really know why you're going off here.

Until then, I still feel it's applicable for those outside the US to obtain a US quote as there are such services as BundleBox which provide a US shipping address to allow forwarding of US purchases to non-US countries. In some cases, that is still massively cheaper than buying from Dell in your own locality, as Prasad can confirm! -

Hahaha - that was bizarre! - good to hear that it's still "work in progress" - thanks for the update Bill.

Whoops, wrong thread.
-
. I understand this stuff takes a bit of time but if it takes them too long to reply I won't have enough time to cancel the Sager and order a new system all over again before school starts.
-
Allan ... it's been 16 days here now... I just emailed you and Juan.

still waiting to hear from allan... my email is ne****@gmail
-
It's "all good". I got my m17x on friday and got a decent discount over the phone. It may just have been bad timing. I waited 10 days for a quote, then quotes were suspended and my old laptop was dying on me. ALIENWARE FOR LIFE NOW, so I'll hit you up for my next system. Sorry if I sounded negative, I just saw others and I wanted to speak out a little.
Thanks for offering this service and I'm still following this to see what the new structure is. -
Shout out to Allan and crew- LOVING the new lappy. Thanks again. Might not need a new laptop again for some time but would do it again.

It has been 23 days since the transaction was posted in my credit account. No credit back up until now.... Emailed Juan No response.. Please help...

I will be checking on the status of all orders today when I get to the office. It shouldn't take so long.
If we have something pending with you, please send me an email to track it better. -

I sent in a quote request just over a week ago. Any chance of a reply in the near future?
Thanks! -
I've been considering purchasing an Alienware in lieu of the Clevo I have ordered due to the 7970M situation. I called and quoted the Mythlogic price for the Clevo I have ordered (~$2070) to the sales reps and told them I need the laptop soon for my research so I am considering Alienware. I asked if they would be nice enough to offer me their best possible pricematch so that I could consider whether I would be able to switch. The Dell sales rep used their online system configurator and quoted me the exact price I could have gotten by ordering online...
Not to be deterred, I emailed the sales rep that Allan referred me to. I explained the situation to him again (penniless PhD student, dead current laptop, etc.) and asked him to please give me an attractive discount to make me consider switching to Alienware. He promptly offered me a configured M17x system that is the "same" as the Clevo (with 32gb mSATA instead of the 128gB solid state drive, with a lower-resolution screen) with a $50 discount. This is not attractive considering I would be spending $2200 for a computer that is not as good and does not include an SSD and would require a $150 screen upgrade. I am also rather insulted by their paltry offered discount as I have heard of people getting 17-25% off of their systems on this forum.
I am now thinking I will just stick with Clevo and wait it out, even though I really need a laptop soon for my work. Does anyone have any advice? -
Allan @ Alienware Company Representative
Hi Allen, please send me an email to check your account. Include the order number. I know Juan has been out for a couple days on vacation maybe that is the reason why you did not get a response. -
-
Always go for there on-call customer service.!
Try to get a quote on phone and haggle with the sales rep and also tell you are a phd student which might qualify you for a student discount! -
I've also been on the fence about getting an AW laptop. I emailed Allan last week and have been simply waiting patiently to hear back from him.
One thing I don't really like about the "recommended" process is that you call in and haggle. Seriously, what am I doing here? Buying a car? If you're trying to sell me something and I have to talk you down to what I feel is a reasonable price, then you've just lost a sale.
That's why I was so intrigued when I first stumbled across this thread. You email Allan, get a quote back, and make your decision. It sounded like there was no pressure. You didn't have to haggle with the guy, or try to get chummy, or appeal to the rep's sympathy, lie about your situation, etc. Just a no-nonsense, "this is the best I can do" price quote.
Now it sounds like all of that is on the way out. Even going by this thread it sounds like the "call up and haggle" discounts are disappearing. Further, since I've started looking at an AW laptop I've had other issues with Dell:
I signed up for the Dell Advantage program but never received my confirmation email. If I try to sign in anyway, it won't let me because I haven't confirmed my account. If I try to re-register then it says I'm already registered. I chatted with a CS rep and (after finally getting her to understand the situation) she claimed that they could re-send the email but it wouldn't be for 1-2 hours. That was a week and a half ago.
I also had some minor issue with DFS. My one account had been terminated due to inactivity, so I re-applied. Well, when everything was said and done, I noticed that it showed my old address, not the address I had entered during the application process.
That's 3 issues (albeit small issues) that almost immediately came up. Then add in the whole haggling thing... To be completely frank, if AW weren't the only vendor I know of offering a dual 7970m config, I'd probably be looking elsewhere. I know it's a massively complex business, but when it seems like the company has stumbled at every step along the (short) way, it makes me a little leery.
(As an aside, your mark-ups for memory upgrades are insane. A $225 fee to upgrade 6GB ram to 16GB. I can buy 4x4GB from Newegg for a paltry $90. You are charging over twice that just to put the ram in, compounded by the fact that I don't even get my 6GB back, so I feel like the "actual" cost is higher than $225. 8GB of 1866 memory is a $200 upgrade... for what would cost me $80 max to install myself. I understand there needs to be a markup so you guys can make a profit, but ~250% is just nuts. Also, Newegg also needs to also make a profit, and I'm pretty sure you guys aren't buying from them so I figure the actual markup must be higher.
As another aside, your site advertises one of the m18x models as having the Killer 1203 model, but it's configured with the 1103. Typo?)
Edit:
-
But if you want to do the way you like, you can always chat with an alienware sales rep.!
But generally the quotes arent the *best* they can do.!
Rest is your wish
And yeah i guess they are 2%!
As far as dell advantage thing goes!
My sales rep told sometimes it takes time for processing of dell advantage benefits.!
Check when(and if) you get the quote from dell sales rep through rep it must have written "dell advantage benefits applied at the bottom most".!
Hope it helps
Cheers -
i too have been waiting paitiently to hear anything from allan but it's turning into a disappointment now. i'm ready to spend $2.5~$3.5k like yesterday but if they focus their business on somebody else, it's their loss.
can i say alienware should market its laptops like Rolex does? Rolex never gives out discount. in fact, often times, you have to beg the retailer to have the honor of buying one from them (at least for some rarer models) but people do not complain because everybody pays the same price so it's fair and square.
alienware, on the other hand, just handed out enormous discounts to the army vets. i also come across jubilant postings of the new owners getting a good deals that's far less than what's advertised in the alienware website. bombarded with this kind of information, i feel like a sucker if i pay the asking price on the website or haggle lightly. i just got an email from the regular channel alienware salesperson and he's offering me about $120 discount for the laptop that came out over $2.6k. again, if that's what everybody pays, i'd be happily paying that amount. but if you give out deep discount to some people just cuz they haggle well or they are special like military person (no disrespect to military intended here), i'm not gonna be a sucker as to pay 30% above those people.
like isorashi said, this has become too much like a car buying experience - something of a kia-level at that. i understand the laptop business is brutal. but since alienware is something of a high end system, i'm hoping they market differently.
after all, $3k buys a lot of things and in the end, i'm happy to be holding onto my cash -
You are right about that.!
But you can try to haggle if you want something and also many people were lucky to have good sales reps.!
You can ask one of them to give you there sales rep's email address.!
People are helpful here -
The M17xR3 and M18xR2 I purchased were both at close to retail online pricing. Aside from the military discounts (good for them
and discounts for outlet purchases, I don't think I've ever heard of any major discounts for Alienwares.
It would be easier in fact if Dell simply didn't discount the Alienwares at all and simply set the price 2% lower for everyone so that customers don't feel like they need to haggle.
Apple doesn't allow haggling... I think Dell Alienware should go this route as well.
I hate what HP has done making it nearly idiotic to buy a system without a coupon code. -
Hi Allan ... I just sent you an email again with this information.
Dave -
Oh, and to be on topic. I've emailed Allan/his team.. twice. Never got a response. -
Well that is why no one buys alienware from reseller

Well I've been waiting for a reply to get a quote for the M18x since the start of this since X-fire wasn't able to be quoted, before he stopped the first time I got a quote for $200 off of the M17x which I'm not even buying. Guess its time to drop $3,700ish for this cause I haven't been able to get any discounts by calling either. I'm not obligated to get one from Allan, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't dissapointed since I waited so long and got my hopes up lol.
