Is there any upcoming products by alienware to be displayed/introduce in this upcoming ces 2014? How about refresh to their Laptops? Higher resolution display on m18x maybe?

I'd say maybe peripherals....but no laptops

There was talk of some AW branded routers last year, and the tactx range hasn't been revised, so I'd say prolly we would expect stuff along these lines :)

It's too early for Alienware. They usually release stuff in the summer.

I suppose that will make some folks happy. I hope that doesn't mean we are in for a healthier dose of mediocrity on the hardware side of the house. May I have the extreme performance option, please. ;)

But, if Steam Machine sales are brisk enough to put some major hurt on console sales, count me in as a supporter of the concept.

Lately, a bunch of rumors have been spreading that this year is yet another re-brand year. According to unofficial sources, the 880M has a mere 15% gain over the 780M in terms of performance and has a total of 8GB's of vRAM. However, my speculation provides a reasoning for such a large amount of vRAM - G-SYNC capabilities on Alienware's refresh for this year, with perhaps higher resolution screens on SLI models.

So, if you don't get my point yet, we still don't know anything for certain. Only rumors with supporting evidence from people in China who have supposedly gotten their hands on 880M's. But, for all we know, those could be developer cards of the 880M, and may not even be the actual 880M itself. Sort of like a "concept" vehicle. They rarely end up being the end result.

Yes, I agree. It also wouldn't be a bad thing to see Micro$oft more worried about Linux adoption. It will probably never successfully displace Windows because it has too many limitations, but I'm sure that 30-50% of the 55 million Steam subscribers getting greater exposure or increased frequency to using a Linux OS is enough of a scratch to solicit an ouch. Hopefully, get them to pay attention to what customers want instead of trying to pretend they know what we need.

That's a fair speculation. It makes good sense considering that display resolutions are predicted to climb with 3K and 4K displays becoming more common. It is also possible that it might just be an NVIDIA marketing tactic to get people all excited about excess. There will be bragging rights associated with that whether it is useful or not. The new consoles have 8GB of shared RAM because they need it to function. Not a bad idea when you think about it... having too much of a good thing is usually way better than not enough. Even if you don't need it, you know it's there "just in case" LOL.

Yeah, that's a good point. I think even if Alienware has 1080p screens this year as well, we can still find a use for the 8GB's of vRAM, especially down the road. It may prolong the usefulness of the system, as what we love to call, "future proof." :D I just hope there's more performance to be drawn out of the 880M than what is speculated now... :(

I would love to see them bring the m15x back... they have nothing to complete in the most common laptop space. Probably why their products aren't doing as well as the past. Also should bring back dual gpu m17x. These are the most common sizes, the 18 is a bit too big and the 14 is weak.

I actually wish the 18 was larger. There is just something about having a huge leviathan beast that adds greatness to the experience. And, 17" is too ordinary. The 18" contributes to its uniqueness in a world filled with average and dominated by meh-ness. It would be a bad design to try to have all the necessary hardware crammed into a 17" chassis. That would mean more compromise somewhere... smaller heat sinks or fewer drive bays... something would have to give. That would suck.

Not the case all the time. The m17x r2 has a cult following.same with the 15x They made the 18 larger and took away stuff anyway. I think they can make an amazing if they wanted but they are in penny pinch land right now

I still have an M17xR2 and it's a great machine. But stuff is really packed into the chassis tightly. While they did not take full advantage of it, the bulk of the 18 gives them room to do more if they decide to. It has some usable space that could be leveraged, but not so much with the smaller machines that are already packed to the gills.

I would love to see something like that!

Give me a 15" portable unit and a 17" unit with dual cards and 120hz display, due to their odd decisions they miss out on some key combinations IMO.

I think the 14 in terms of power is as good or better than equivalent obtains from other vendors. Runs ever game out there very well, my 14 has spent MANY hours on the battlefield (3 and 4) without ever thinking twice and runs them exceptionally well. The cool think is the 14 "IMO" looks better than any other smaller form factor out. The real and true Alienware experience all around.

God no, MXM and high end.

What I want from alienware is a mini beast steam box option.

Dual fan, one sitting on the top of the unit cooling a 4800mq, bottom cooling a 100W MXM card that's upgradable and even 2 memory slots would do with a single internal mSATA slot. Optimus as a switchable option or if maxwell uses the new arm core properly, a non intel IGP optimus.

Have it without a card or heatsink and a dual core i5 option for those who want streaming and offer an upgrade kit.

    EDIT: Like this:

I just hope you guys can bring back the option of 1200P display or 2k display and maybe a thiner version of m14, m17 & m18 ;-) should be enough. By the way sir can we expect a refresh of alienaware laptops this year?

Only downsides I have with the 14 is that it's still a pretty bulky/heavy machine and clevo/sager has a 15 with 780m instead...I'd take that 780m and 1 inch over the 14 anyday I think...

780M? Oh, me too... easy choice . I'm guessing the Clevo also has a real GPU and not a BGA chip permanently attached to the motherboard. The bulk and weight I don't really care about, but 14" screen is also just too small for my personal preference. But, so is 15" screen. For my personal preference at least 17" display is the price of admission.

The screen size and type doesn't matter too much because even 18 is too small. I always game on an external monitor of 27inch+ . A laptop screen is just too small. So it really doesn't matter how good they make it for me

Agreed. I'd probably be willing to go up to 20-21" and I think that's as big as I can handle.

I use 2x 24inch screens now with the 18" on the laptop now. I'm tempted to get another 24", but the wife would kill me. Having the 18 vs. a 14 or 15 is very nice when you get old since my eyes are starting to fail. Was also traveling over the holidays and having as big of a screen as you can get is very nice on the road...Just plop the machine at your destination and you're ok. I'd assume it'd be even harder to go from 27" to 15 or 14".

Or at least the had them in at least one of there CES demo models. If you look the right side of the pic it clearly says it has an R9 m290x :)

So for the AMD fan base out there looks like Alienware has not abandoned after all.

    http://i.imgur.com/G2E9A1n.jpg

A pic that someone has posted on Reddit shows the 17 running with an R9 m290x

    http://i.imgur.com/G2E9A1n.jpg

Although it still says it performs at a lower level then the 780m from what I have found so meh. Would be good for those of us who prefer AMD I guess.

Give me a 15 inch, removable MXM GPU with GTX 780m/880m + Intel Iris Pro. Throw in either the 3k display we've seen on the MSI GT60 or a 2k/1440p G-Sync display if possible, although I'd settle for a 144Hz 1080p. Aluminium body and bring back the media keys. Dual msata, no optical or hdd (more battery space). 2x HDMI 2.0 + DisplayPort/Thunderbolt. Keyboard with CherryMX switches (wishful thinking I know) no numpad but macro keys on both sides of the keyboard. Really nice and big (optional) touch screen touchpad - the only way that win8 will be usable: modern ui on touchpad, desktop on...desktop.

Design wise, the AW Steambox looks nice with a certain reserved feel. if Alienware can carry that into the 15 incher. with perhaps that small corner cutout on both sides of the laptop for speakers. That would be cool. Sort of like the Voodoo machines of old. Sleek, with a few lights, backlit keyboard etc.

Yes, I really want them to bring back the 15. If they did I would buy it. I love my 18x r2 but I want something a little more portable. The alien ware 14 is cap really. It's thick and chunky with mediocre performance and low upgrade potiential. If much rather have a 15 with a full real gpu

Yeah a 14-15 with MXM GPU would be something special. Right now AW14 are fairly priced but a non upgradable GPU is simply a deal breaker.

yep, a portable, upgradable, well styled and built machine. I cant believe they dont have one. I think since they have gone with a "weird linup" of 14, 17, and 18 instead of 11, 15, and 17 SLI their sales and quality hasnt been the same since. Pretty sure those machine sold much much better then these new line ups.

14 (MXM GPU), 17 (single/dual GPU Optional), 19-21 Dual GPU Desktop CPU. Then I would entertain the idea of parting with my R2.
Tho I would seriously love to see a 14 with MXM GPU and a new flagship AW that makes my jaw drop.
