But it's shinyI'm really disappointed! I wish it was stealth black like m9750. When I look at some of the pictures, I feel like the shiny surface makes it look a bit cheap. I fear that Dell is forcing them to make their laptops ugly and bulky like XPS lol...
However, ultimately it's what's inside that counts and I am going to wait to get my hands on the m17x:
1. In addition to being a lot more powerful, the Extreme processors now have a 800MHz front bus which means they will be able to take advantage of 800MHz memory.
2. Give me a brick with two 8800M GTX monsters in it and I'll buy it!
P.S. Not so sure about the source of this chart, it was sent to me by someone and they said it's from NVIDIA.
-
I like it shiny
Bling Bling yo lol
PS im not black
-
the shiny black does not make it look cheap.
-
I do love the lid but I don't like the shiny area around the keyboard; it's gonna look dirty all the time and full of fingerprints, plus it looks like cheap plastic where as m9750's chasis is made of magnesium alloy and is fingerprint resistant, but there we go...
-
roor, please confirm your source on this, as I would like to ***** slap them.
IMO, the stealth looks MUCH better than this shiny crap. Also, can you say, fingerprint magnet? How about a m15x, in a, I don't know, 15 inch case. I could fit another screen in the area around the damn screen. -
I saw on ur siggy, u have 1920x1200 on 15.4incher, I would like to know how it works on u and specially on the eyes.
Is it too "small" like we always assume? Thanks in advance because I am considering this on the becoming m15x. About the color option, I did make a thread discussing if we could do anything at this point, but many replies it won't change since it's already pass the production phase and it is going to be released soon. But at least I tried u know.. -

and i believe the reason they're not offering it in stealth black is because they'll still be selling the 9750. so why have another 17" that 'looks' the same? its very nice though, i like the square edges better. just keep one of those cleaning cloths with you to wipe away fingerprints, takes like a minute to clean the whole notebook
-
I have had both. The M5550 was a shiny silver paint, and the M9750 is a matte black paint. I would have to go for the matte black. I have shown both of the notebooks to most of my friends and they like the M9750 paint MUCH better.
I hate the amount of fingerprints that the shiny paint gets. Honestly, they should offer this notebook in a matte color. -
That was his point. If they offer matte on m15x/m17x, no ones will buy the current m9750 like u.
But I believe they might offer MATTE paint later in the future, say like 6 months after it will be released? -
your guess is as good as mine.
but they're both very nice looking notebooks in person. -
@ roor, what do you think, is the grey one not as sensitive as the black one for fingerprints?
-
yea because black is more reflective and fingerprints show up more visible than silver
-
I'm guessing that AW has overstock of the M9750 then, because if they didn't they would just get rid of it and only sell the M17X, because I believe they are both pretty similar in terms of size/weight.
-
@ roor,
yeah I was thinking of waiting for the "matte" finish, but that will be just my personal raw guess, plus I believe u when u say it looks good, cause I had m9700 in glossy silver. It was as sexy as ever.
I might be regretting my decision to get m15x once it is available, surely because of the color of choice, while other features are just perfect for me.
On the other perspective, I heard there was lots of "peel" or "chips" paints from the matte color, which definitely is much worse issue compared to "fingerprints" in my opinion. Plus, my workstation has Alienware P2 Predator casing which comes in glossy black, so I would rather have a matching workstation, than having the only "matte" on my workstation. I guess that will spoil the mood and theme of it.
But that doesn't mean I like the glossy paint better, IMO if I were to use it alone without my glossy black desktop near it, I would definitely prefer it to be in "matte" paint.
And of coz hoping there won't be any peels or chip paint comes off from it. -
If yes, then my theory would be true (on page 1). -
-
ok so you work with AW roor? Well that crack about wanting a source, that was just a cheap shot at you, for making a statement like "they dont look cheap" as an argumanet. When others are stating opinions, you come and say, no you are wrong it looks good, when "good" and "cheap" are completely subjective. I just don't like when people offer up opinion as fact, which happens a lot here. You are right, I have not seen them in person, but I was like most people here, very excited about their launch. But that died down for me when I saw them. I do like the rippely silver, as it would be the "cleanest" and "stealthiest"("under the radar") of the bunch.
Also, I am just curious, what do you do at AW roor? -
The matte finish on the 9750 does not scratch or chip off on its own. The scratches and chips are a result of carrying the laptop around in a bag without a suitable protective liner. I have used my 9750 for 4 months now at home( I don't carry it around) and the finish is in perfect shape-just like new.
-
I hope u don't take my reply as an offense. I even made a thread specifically discussing on how to make it (matte paint option) happen.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=190539 -
However, that goes differently with m9750s. I saw couple of complain on that specific matter and that was one of the reasons I hold my breath till now. -
I had a paint job on my M5550 which was like the M9700, and my friend has it on his M5500.
I hate the paint job. It wears down pretty quickly, which is very annoying. From carrying it around in my laptop bag, the paint on the alien head wore down all the way which looked bad. Also, the paint on the palm rests also wore down a lot.
I guess its all personal opinion. -

All im worried about is
Alienware doesnt move the Q1 to Q22008
m9750 was a big delay -
http://www.alienware.com/Ad_Landing_Pages/CES_Landing.aspx
doesn't that mean the m15x is coming out on January 7th? pardon me if I'm wrong -
Sorry, but that doesn't mean that the m15x is coming out on January 7th. Alienware has already shown off versions of their notebooks already, they just haven't released them yet.
There are many companies that show a product at an event like CES, except the product is not released until maybe 6 months later dependning on the company. -
they didn't mention the m17x at all, which give a raw hint that KidProdigy could be right. Maybe it will launch somewhere around that date.
-
Usually companies don't ever release things during an expo. If anything Alienware may announce then when the release date is, maybe in late January.
-
oh boo then =[ guess I need to keep waiting.. I really do hope they'll lower the prices though since they're somewhat overpriced in my opinion.. well at least when I compare to like XoticPC.com or something
-
The m15x starts at 1,399 $, and if you configure it with GTX and 2.0 GHz C2D 4MB, the price would peak at 2,000 $. Personally I think that's a great deal.
source http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=187764&page=6
Just scroll down and you will see it. -
In fact, I would bet that when Alienware finally does put the configuration pages, the base price for either or both the m17x and m15x will be higher than what was posted on the "work in progress" cache pages and there will be an outcry here about it, especially from those who will say that they were depending on those prices in putting off their laptop purchase. Just watch. Its gonna happen. -
new here
anyways... correct me if im wrong... but as far as im concerned the m17x is a repackage of clevo m570U
there are ppl such as killer notebooks who are offering m570u in penryn processor configuration, while the m17x isnt
and if m17x is m570U, then wat would m15x really be?
Im particularly concerned because of my interest in the m15x,
what if i buy the m15x in conroe when others can actually put penryns in it? what if i can buy the same computer cheaper from other distributors?
any knowledge or comments pertaining this subject would be much appreciated...thx -
The rest of your message is a little confusing. You mention an interest in the m15x but talk about the m570u, which is a 17 inch laptop. As far as I am aware, the m15x will be the only 15 inch laptop with an 8800m GPU.
I should disclose that I've had what is best described as a serious disagreement with KillerNotebooks/Mark related to a prior purchase that has since been returned. With that said, its interesting that KillerNotebooks is taking orders for its Executioner model with Penryn (T9500) CPUs. I believe Intel is releasing th mobile Penryn CPU's on January 6, 2008 with the expectation that it will take at least a few weeks before laptop resellers can incorporate and offer them in their systems. I'm yet to see Xoticpc, Power Notebooks or RJ Tech offer Penryn CPUs in their systems or even mention when they might be available. Maybe KillerNotebooks has an inside source that none of the other Sager/Clevo resellers have. Mark would have to answer that question.
In terms of the overall cost, its likely that initially the m17x and m15x are going to be more expensive than the most similar Clevo/Sager models. Alienware typically runs on the high end, especially when they launch new systems. I would not expect that to change considering that if they deliver as promised the m15x may be the only 15 inch laptop with the 8800m GPU and the m17x may be lighter than the Sager/Clevo model and the only 17 inch laptop with 8800m SLI and mobile CPU's, not to mention that SLI in the Sager/Clevo D901C has now been delayed into at least February 2008. -
yea, i dont believe that because those are pictures of the old 15" model, and the new ones dont look ANYTHING like that. -
ah i the next alienware m15x should have an option for the color blue like older models. well i hope they dont delay this notebook cuz i really need one for college and second semester starts in a week. If this doesnt come out within a week or two i think i might just go with a sager with the 8800m GTX
-
I hate the keyboard on the 15x/17x
Also I was hoping they could make the design like the m5790 or something (silver and black). That's the reason I want an Alienware laptop-I love that design! But now it's gone -
Does anyone know how thick or heavy the 15x will be?
-
I hope that the M15x costs 3.5K with an 8800GTX so that you guys have to pay more than use M9750 users
Heh... I'm guessing it will cost about 2.5 - 3K with the 8800GTX -
-
a good machine? the base will be a good machine...
-
Is anyone willing to give $4000 so I can buy one?
-
I think 2.5k - 3k will get you good performance.
-
I'm hoping they won't be more than 2.5 cause I'm going to get the wife one
-
what does your wife do that requires an alienware?
-
-
She could be a 1337 H4X0R
-
true... I mean my parents are both h4xz0rs. I mean really who isn't these days...
-
Wake up in the middle of the night to play Crysis when the husband and kids are sleeping peacefully, would be my guess. Especially after realizing the immense power of the 8800GTX. What kind of woman wouldn't?
-
and all the good convo is over the day i read any thread...
