It's called Intel Turbo Memory, or codename Robson. No "cache" in the name, or people will get it confused with TurboCache.

I'm sure you're right - just in the UK Alienware website it's called Turbo Cache Memory.

Been reading the boards for a while, first time posting. I just recently got my m15x and I think I saw the question answered here a while back but now cant seem to find it. How do I get rid of this desktop Icon for YouCam?
-
Thanks Travis and again Raz..
Guess I'll have to review how to install RAM and look up the Monetevina processors from Intel
Another little question - I've read a couple of threads and most state that the 1GB Turbo Memory for the m15x is useless or not recommended. Is that the final word on it or will the technology mature with time and hence become a viable option by end '08 ?
) them sayin 802.11n could be out last quarter of 2008.

You might want to utilize the very useful search function...
Have fun with your m15x! -

I searched before I was registered to the forum I guess thats why I couldn't find anything except for links to pages with the m15x. I did a search again now that I'm registered and found a topic where someone mentions it is a cyberlink program that runs at start up but doesn't list what it is, does anyone know the name so I can shut it off through msconfig.

Stupid questions doesnt exists, just stupid answers
I think this is what you searching for:

They're wrong, they don't know what they sell.
Anyway, Turbo Memory is not a replacement for RAM. There is little benefit from it (considering that SP1 will improve it's status), even with systems with 2GB of RAM. -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I thought it was supposed to work better with the Penryn chips?
If SP1 improves how it works, is it worth getting it and testing it after SP1 is installed? matbe it had drive issues with Merom chips?
If you install it, can it be turned off easily, for testing etc?
OB -
No, it had problems with Vista taking advantage of it. SP1 supposedly fixes that.
-
So my memory was fuzzy
Info on wikipedia concerning 802.11n (backed by this link - http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/11/Reports/802.11_Timelines.htm) and some info from PC World say that it will be finalized by Nov '08 but only become mainstream by mid '09.. Sorry for the mix up
And - "...vendors anticipate the final version will not be significantly different from the draft..... Depending on the manufacturer, a firmware update may eventually be able to make current "Draft-N" hardware compatible with the final version."
L8rs -
So, now that Vista SP1 is kinda sorta out, any improvement to be seen from having that super duper 1GB turbo memory or is it all hype ?
-
Now that's a question that I'd like seeing answered cuz I'm looking to pick up the m15x in a few months... With a couple of stats too, if you don't mind
-
-
I cant seem to find vista sp1, can someone please give me a link, I cant find one anywhere. I also looked on the site, I know its prob somewhere on here.

For those of you that got the leaked Vista SP1 - Microsoft acknowledged the error. "Yesterday, a build of SP1 was posted to Windows Update and it was inadvertently made available to a broad group. The build was intended only for our more technically advanced testers, and was meant to only be offered to those with a specific registry key set on their PC," Microsoft said in a statement. It also reiterated plans to make SP1 broadly available in mid-March.
Hope you qualify as one of those "technically advanced testers" -
Hey guys, could an m15x owner with an 8800 do me a favor? One of the games I'm looking forward to is Age of Conan so I am curious as to how the laptop would run it. Would one of you mind running the test here for the game? Thanks!!!

Is anyone else having any problems with dreamscene, I get a rundll32.exe error when ever I try to look at the dreamscene wallpapers through the desktop backround panel. Any advice?
Also thanks for the help getting rid of that YouCam icon, this message board is packed with info. -
Can somebody tell me why in Europe they have 9-cells batteries (standard and smart bay) whereas in North America its only 6-cells. That means they have longer battery life, life it is heavier, right?
And is there a webcam on the m15x?
thx -
All Business Records Notebook Enthusiast
Found a fix for that dreamscene error on alienwares website if anyone needs it
"If the Dreamscene utility shows an RUNDLL32 error whenever you try to select a video to be used as a wallpaper on your system, you require to rename some files found on the Common Files folder.
Look into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter and rename the following files:
- NeVideo.ax -> rename it to NeVideo.ax.old
- NeVideoProc.ax -> rename it to NeVideoProc.ax.old
No reboot is needed for the fix to work." -

EDIT:
"It's in development." What the hell are they doing to 'develope' the same plastic in black? How long does it take that they don't even know whether or when it's going to be available? This is just stupid. I've been waiting for a stupid computer since November last year... -
What kind of motherboard does this thing have, I cant seem to find out.
-
Has anyone had an experience with warranty yet? Well unfortunley I have had a partially bad one so far. After working with technical support last weekend and determining that I have a bad GPU, they said they will be shipping out a new one within the next 5 days. Here is the bad part....they asked me for my credit card number to file for an "authorization only" in the event that I do not return the old card (5) days AFTER I recieve the new GPU. Well, guess what..... I have not received the new GPU yet and Alienware charged my Visa $569 (Not an authorization either..Charged!). After talking to customer support today they claimed that I should not have been charged and that they will credit my visa once they receive the old card. What????!!!!! They haven't even shipped the new one out yet! I asked him well then can I charge Alienware interest? He replied that they would deal with that later if that is the case. What frickin BOLOGNA!!!!!!
-
Stop payment to them then.
-
Thought about that already and I think that they will probaby not send the replacement card out then.
-
im so sick of waiting for black... i just want a new frikkin computer now >.<
ok ive said that about a billion times but seriously does it really take that long to "develop" a different color... -
Lasix... they're probably trying to figure out why so many people are having issues with their notebooks. There's probably 50% of the people who purchased one calling them about returning it for a replacement gpu.... or sending it back to fix the AlienFX lighting.. considering neither seem to work on a lot of people's notebooks.
-
Well, after the really good news gave bay Aria and the really precise comment made by Rebmik I'm really thinking if is worth to wait that long for the black color.... I don't know... maybe I'll place my order today..... What you think Laxis?, are you willing to wait for maybe one or two months more? Or we should just go for the silver one?
-
with the suede peeling on the m9750 i highly doubt the material used on the m15x will be any different. I enjoy this lacquer finish.
-
I'm about to cave. Almost ordered last night. I don't know... I'm flying down to Florida for the weekend. Maybe I'll order when I get back. Maybe I'll get lucky and something new will be released between now and then?
-
-
I was set to order blak when they were first shown off, but the silver has really grown on me. My main dilemma is between the m15x/m17x. I can just buy the 15 and use the rest of my money to build a desktop, so that's not too big of a deal. I'm just tired of waiting. At the same time though, I don't want to order and then see skullcap so something else come out a few days later.
-
-
-
should we wait another month after the the m17x realsed
so to get a much perfect machine
& maybe we will have to cos i too would wantmy m17x in black -
Oodle-Bear Alienware Mug, Testpilot
I agree, assuming that apart from an additional HDD, and SLi graphics, the M17X will be based upon the M15X, it might have the same problems, i'd wait until a few have been released into the wild, and reviewed before purchasing.
I too am waiting for "Glossy Black Skullcap"... eventually lol
Any news of a possible release date?
OB -
im about to cave... grrrrrr... i think i can wait till the end of march and thats it...
-
-
no no no stop talking about colors
how can u possibly wait until the end of march
i need my black skullcap right |\| () \/\/ -
Haha, saying that it comes out at the end of March, hurts a lot.
-
think about the starving kids in Africa..with AIDS...they're the only people that need something.
lol. -
The grass is always greener on the other side. If the black version was out right now and the silver one was the one being delayed..... everyone would be like "I want the silver "Right |\| () \/\/." An m15x is an m15x, if you need it right now get the silver...
-
No no no !! Black Ripley/Skullcap rules !! It's just so much more better looking *Shinyyyy*
@ Sir Travis D & laxis - Don't you dare give in !! You guys have seen what all the Silvers have done to the owners and so would be prepared to give a better review/run through of the Blacky when it comes out.. Hang in there for the good of the people !! -
