did this happen right after you got it? something must've gotten loose during the shipping...not everyone is having the same problems.

Wait. Your laptop was shipped the exact same day and time as mine. You got yours today? What service did you get? What state do you live in?

I did not know that FedEx shipped on Saturdays....

Maybe I will get lucky and see it today?

Then you never watched a BluRay or HD material on your screen. The difference is watching VCD vs DIVX. One will be clear the other will be blury.

OMG I am watching the original Halloween on blu ray,
    IT LOOKS SOO DAMN GOOD.
Even better than my 1080p tv
oh and btw, i never chose the 720 screen.
My vid cam is broke, but I will go buy batteries and snap some shots with my camera, unless anyone knows how to record video with a webcam.

I will be posting a video either late, late tonight or tomorrow morning.
But I need someone to recommend a program which I can use to record with my logitech webcam.
if you want I can post screenshots of some blu ray movies.
and I can not believe how amazing this matte screen looks!!!
the writing is not bad like you thought it would have been in 1200p, and everything just looks so damn crisp.
And does anyone notice that the keys are the Terminator font lol, prety damn cool.

Has anyone else had problems with games dragging???? I have had problems with both Crysis(All at Medium settings) and also with Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. Quite disapointed so far. After using technical support and reinstalling video drivers they are sending me a new graphics card. I can say that AW support was great. I sure hope that I will get beter performance with the replacement card.

What kind of settings are you all using for Crysis? I have the 2.4 and 4G memory. Thanks in advance guys!

if you put your computer to sleep (i.e. put the screen down) that will disable the touch controls until you do a full system shutdown (restart won't cut it)

if, however, the other controls are responding then I dunno

Awesome Absinthe42. I hope you upload it soon. My purchase decision is riding on it ;p hehehe. Thanks for putting the work and research into the video. I'm sure it will be a great vid.

If I may make a request... If you have UT3 and CS:S - Add those into the video. Show us how FPS is in well populated Online servers!

How does the M15x handle the heat of the extreme processors compared to the normal core 2 duo?
Are there any concerns about it?

someone with the C2D Extreme processor and either with normal C2D processors, can please post his notebook's battery life? you don't need to completely discharge your battery!

please check the power consumption with everest, or RMClock: in the "battery section" you can check the instant power consumption (mWh). try the test with max power saver for the processor (multiplier @ minimum), stealth mode (GPU only downclocked), no bluetooth or wireless, screen at minimum step of brightness, so we can compare results! finally we can determine if the extreme processor will have less battery life, even with max power saver ;)

Absinthe, I dont know any good program to recording video with web cam, maybe nobody know a good one.....

For the ones that haven't place and order for the m15x: Do we have to dowload and install all the drivers and patchs files from the alienware support web-page? Or thoose drivers are just for the ones who bought the unit before and are having problems with some features?... I dont know if we buy the unit from today thoose drivesrs will be already installed in our units or we still have to self install them

Hey everyone.. I've read almost this entire thread along with The Official Owners Lounge one and it's been great to hear all the feedback, benchmarks and opinions on the m15x :)

@Absinthe: I really hope everything works out for you.. I've been following you following the first orderers (in a non-stalkerish way!!) and now you finally got it and it's giving probs... Totally sucks... Was looking forward to your boxing video ;)

    One or two questions -
    1) If I purchase the m15x it'll be both my first laptop and my first AW.. Is it common for them to ship for free every holiday season (late Nov - late Dec) ?

    2) I'm coming to the US only by Aug (for college - so gettin the 5% discount & black skullcap case :D !!).. So I was wondering what items could become cheaper by that time - RAM, GPU, Processor...?

    3) Heard from a couple of sites that the full 802.11n format could be released by then (no longer pre-N or draft-N) so would AW pick that up for the m15x ?

Thanx for the help in advance !!

I'd say the gpu and processor for #2
But, order it with the base (2gb) ram!!!
you can get 4gb (corsair great brand) for $100, while upgrading to 4gb from alienware is almost $500 o.o
    It also doesn't void warranty

    2. The cpu and gpu will definitely drop in price a bit by then. Monetevina will come out to replace Penryn (and introduce quad core mobile chips) and the first cards of the mobile 9 series will be out. The 8800gtx will still be king for a while though. Blu-ray will also drop in price if you are interested in that.

    3. I don't see why not.

its a intel gimic ... its the same as having a 512 USB stick stuck into your computer used as readyboost under vista..

under XP it does nothing at all (vista only feature)..

wait till intel release a 4-8gig stick and install it your slef... or get a 2gig usb stick thats empty for cheaper and u will get > performance boot up times and be able to remove it for games where it slows it down.

You guys are confusing Turbocache and Turbomemory.

Turbocache is an nVidia technology that allows GPUs to share system memory. Turbomemory is from Intel, a technology that works similar to Readyboost, which allows caching of frequently used programs and applications for faster boot times.

Neither of which have a strong impact on high-end system performance.

Yes, I was talking about Intel Turbo Cache Memory. Seems like the consensus is that it's not worth it.
