My concern with the 15.4 inch m15x is going to be the thermal constraints.... how on earth are they going to cool that monster? We all know that the Core2Duo runs slightly warm, and those graphics cards are (as a guess) not cool when it comes to heat.... how are these laptops going to be cooled?

Maybe because they are using the new technology (I forgot what it was) for the graphic card, and as you can see the differences of the chassis (which means differences/enhanced heat management compared to m9750 (previous nappa platform).

If you asked me, what u need to be concerned with is just your deep pocket, rather than worrying about the laptop. Coz they don't simply built it, they tested it run it thoroughly to assure it made all the way to us, customers.

I don't think that Alienware is going to get in the predicament they got into when using the Clevo chassis for the m5550 and m7700. These were heat machines and I don't believe Alienware is even using anything based on the Clevo chassis anymore. They've learned their lesson.

yeah i would hope derred is right on this one....Alienware could have easily launched this thing earlier, but I'm hoping the extra wait is just for that fine tuning and making sure that it's going to blow our minds away....without my lap. lol!

and i saw that optimus maximus keyboard yesterday - it was AWESOME.....although the $460 price tag is what makes me question how much I really want it...

haha lordvader if you have the budget for a $5,000 laptop, then I envy you!

But I just saw the link the user "Alienwarez" posted in the forum about the m15x being open only to subscribers...I saw the CNET video and the only thing the Alienware Rep said was that they will be launching the m15x "this friday through their subscriber database." I think that is almost exactly what he said.

He said nothing about it launching with a single pre-configured system or having limited availability...

Don't they always send out messages to all their subscribers when they have new product launches? I assume it would be the same thing this time around as well - the newsletter is their way of publicizing, and the launch htis friday will be a full launch to everybody.

I would be very shocked if their home page doesn't display the m15x this Friday.

Holy ****! I just asked a customer rep the dimensions of the m15x and they are:
    Height: 1.30”
    Width: 14.55”
    Depth: 10.73”
    Weight: 7 lbs

Wow, that's much better than most people thought they'd be!

Alright, man. A lot of people said the m15x would be too bulky and thick so I made this thread just so they know how incredibly thin it is (same thickness, less than some) other 15" notebooks.

Not bad at all. I was just viewing the m15x site and I was especially suspicious because nowhere do they mention the physical dimensions or weight; it made me think that they weren't mentioning them because they wouldn't be flattering.

I really do wonder then why they aren't touting this; the thickness and weight are excellent (pretty remarkable for a machine that can have an 8800M GT and Core 2 Extreme. You'd think they would be at least including it somewhere on the site (unless I'm missing it).

But this seems very good....... although with Asus showing off the Penryn G1Sn update with a GeForce 9500M, I'm curious when Alienware will offer the 9xxx series mobile GPUs in this.

I'm sure they will in the future. There won't be a faster card than the 8800M GTX for atleast a year when the 9800 cards come out. The 9500M won't be faster than the 8800M GTX for sure.

No, the m15x uses MXM so you can replace the video card in it to something faster.

but i just saw at the acer forum that the 9500m GS is almost equivalent to the 8600m GS. It just runs a bit cooler. so still the 8800m GT should out perform the 9500, althout the 9800m GT should be worth a look whenever it comes out for lappies
