The 8800m SLI is not up yet on Dell's website but Nvidia's website has it as a banner at the top of their homepage at www.nvidia.com. Clicking on that link then takes you to http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_sli_notebooks.html -- which then says, "Dell XPSM1730 featuring dual GeForce 8800M GTX and dual GeForce 8700M GT." Nothing up yet on the m17x.

Hey Michaels the Nvidia next GEN GPU's have been seriously delayed. You may want to look around on NVnews.net and see when an expected delivery date is coming.
-
You can configure a Dell 1730 with 8800m GTX SLI now, I guess we won't have to wait much longer for the m17x.
-
As always, it's only the US that can add the new options..
-
But i can see they are slowly adding options atm caus 5 min ago you couldn't configure with only 1 8700. Also, they added the 2.6GHz processor.
-
Cant decide which to get
Xps m1730 or Alienware m17x ? -
Got same problem!!
-
I've been lurking for almost 2 months now, waiting for this stupid thing. I will hold out, as it just looks better than Dell. I hope you can get it with just 1 8800 when first released.
-
THE WAIT IS KILLING ME! I'm refreshing this goddamn forum every 10 min in hopes of seing a post with "It's AVAILIBLE NOW!"..
Argh! -
-
And that newsletter is a joke, got that last bit-o info, 2 days after this forum had it. -
No, no, no! I must have patience! Think black, think m17x, think Skullcap -
This 1730 SLI announcement better push Alienware to announce the m17x!
They are saying 2/19 ship date for the 1730 with SLI 8800m so maybe Alienware could ship the M17x then =D -
can't hold out much longer, must keep waiting on alienware, dell have... NO alienware, i am going mad just waiting for the m17x.
-
At least if they released some info and updated the teaser page the wait wouldn't be so bad. We'd know it was still coming soon and would have an idea as to how long we have left. But not saying anything at all is what makes this wait miserable
The damn thing could have been pushed back to Q2 for all we know.
-
No kidding. My luck...or our luck, we'll have to wait until summer for scullcap, and by then I'll be enjoying outdoorsy stuff..
-
you know how long its gonna take to build and ship when they first go on sale? I remember my first 9750 took a month and that was way after they went on sale. I myself am holding out to see the release. Good luck on everyones patience. Some announcement would be nice.

Hey lordvader, keep up. (ha ha just kidding).
the 3rd and FINAL 9750 had the same issue as the other ones and it was returned for a refund (alienware did this with no problems).
Im currently trying to figure out what computer I want.
My dad made an interesting comment yesterday when I said that I still was considering alienware computers.
He said, "you know, if I bought a car from a brand I havent bought from before, and the first car had problems, then I got a second, and a THIRD, and those cars had the same problem, I would SERIOUSLY question buying from that company again cause even though its only one model, the fact that by the time I received a 3rd unit and they still didnt make sure the problem was worked out, thats a serious flaw in quality control.
Now mind you my dad just retired from working for about 40 years for Unisys (used to be Burroughs Computers). They were a computer company mostly dealing in business computers for large companies. They made some PCS for home use in the 80s till they merged with Sperry and became Unisys. He handled accounts around the world selling and maintaining machines and making customers happy. So he knows the computer business. He thinks me getting 3 units of a laptop all with the same problem is rediculous to consider buying from them again. Telling how little a customer of his wouldnt have stood for that at all.
Also, Alienware HAS agnowledged that the issue wasnt anything I had done to the laptop. So it wasnt software related or Norton specifically related. -
all this said, Alienware has been taking good care of me as far as not giving me any problems with the 9750s. Things were slow communication wise for a while but that problem has been remedyd and really feel I can give their customer service a good rating so far.

OK Daddys boy
thxs lol -

I was on the phone inquiring about my company discount with AW over Dell, and the female I was talking too told me 2nd quarter for the 17. So I did the chat thing to maybe verify this, and the other female was useless. I need a notebook, and Dell is so ugly, but at least they are ready....

Bo@LynboTech Company Representative
actually wc2810 I can see dell making alienware wait to release their flagship model to sell more of their own product
they wont want to satturate the market with new releases, if they drip feed it all they will probably get more sales
although I dont pretend to completely understand marketing strategies
this happens a lot
just look at pc releases of top games, often a year later than the console
even when they are developed on a pc in the first place -
If the Penryns come to the m1730 soon as expected and Dell keeps its current special on its best m1730 configuration, its going to get harder and harder to hold off. -
I've still got my fingers crossed for next week. If it doesn't come out though I'll buy the m15x and put the rest of my money toward a desktop in the future.
-
I banking on neither one of those chicks knew what they were talking about. I might get a AW 15 before the Dell 17.
-
I might just get a 15. I'll give Alienware until the end of next week and then I'll order my m15x. I could have it first week of March if I order then.

I'll hold out a little longer.... -
Haha, his post is the only reason I'm waiting.
-
Why are you waiting due to his post? I'm curious, do you think he is some sort of undercore alienware employee? If that is the case search for all the threads he posted in.
-
Other info posted pointed to either this week or next for the release date. Other companies that are offering SLi have started taking orders with shipments planned for the end of Februaru or beginning of March. If Alienware puts up the configuration page between now and next week it will fall into everyone elses timeline. It's possible he might know something, and I hope he does, but next Friday will definitely be the limit of my patience.
I need a computer now! -
Im not sure if this is a real crack or a joke.
But I was just trying to say that I have been pretty patient with this whole ordeal and someone else that works for another computer company for years having to deal with customers, thinks that Alienwares issue that I have dealt with is rediculous. That other companies wouldnt let stuff like that go like AW has. Soemthing to think about, thats all. -
-
euh, my guess would be 8800gtx in SLI? It could be the first true desktop replacement laptop. People buy 17" laptops for some mobility but not the kind that you take to class/work everyday(for that m15x is the obvious choice).
-
I want one for the ability to have SLi, and also to have a second internal hdd (or three if you utilize the smart bay for storage), the bigger screen real estate, and the extra inputs (such as surround sound jacks for my Razer headphones and esata).
-
I would Love a 13in laptop which would give me 8800 card
Anyone knows where i can get onelol
-
-
Quick Vader! Buy an Eee pc and retrofit it with an 8800. Haha.
-
i think his strange feeling is wrong -
Roor, what have YOU heard?
Everyone is toying with my emotions...
-
So with the portability issue not being that big for me, I prefer the 17 inch screen over the 15 inch screen. The m17x and Dell's m1730 are also the only 2 notebooks that have mobile CPUs and the capability to have 8800 GTX SLI, which if good drivers are released eventually should help futureproof it as well. Also, not sure if I'll take advantage of the m17x's multiple hard drive possibilities but its nice to have the option.
With all that said, its getting harder and harder to wait. I had to return my prior Sager/Clevo laptop for repair under warranty back on July 31. That turned into a huge mess with the reseller that was not ultimately resolved until late October. With my refund in hand, I was ready to order a new notebook but then decided it was worth waiting until 11/19 to see what Alienware was going to release. Of course, they didn't release anything at that time. I've gone back and forth between Alienware, Dell and Sager/Clevo so many times I've lost count. With the 8800m's now available in Dell's m1730 (and possibly Penryn CPU's in the near future), its tempting to pull the trigger on one except for (1) I really like the Smart Bay feature on the m17x; and (2) the m1730 has some minor issues that kind of bug me (like that I have to pay for the m1730 has the Physics card that 99% of the time, there appear to be some grainy screen problems, etc.).
By my count, since the 11/19 when we all originally thought the m15x and m17x were going to be released, its been 81 long days of waiting counting today. Ultimately, I just want the m17x to be released so I can compare its features/costs with the other options out there and then make a fully informed and final decision. -
-
lol the eeepc with an 8800 would just be a case and an 8800 lol no mobo no hd no ram just an 8800 lol
-
-
Yeah.. yep.. that's what I'm going with..
Edit: Eh.. I'm gonna order mine tomorrow. Just have to decide on which screen I want to get with it. I'll buy a desktop later on down the road. -
-
Is there any other Gaming Laptop which
is lighter than the m17x ? -
-
