Yeah, I know... but it's very nice that the NVENC H.264 plug-in finally works correctly. It works much better for both of the capturing methods, so it's a win for everyone.

should install the new drivers soon
-
I haven't tested any extreme overclocked benchmarks yet to determine if it is actually a better driver, but I haven't seen any reason not to so far. It seems to be decent for gaming and the video capture is clearly better.
-
Grabbed it on a Steam Weekend Sale for $5.00 the other day. Keyboard control is a bit wonky, but this looks fantastic. I know it is best suited for a gamepad controller, but I'm not, LOL.

looks like it performs the same as injustice.
updated to the new drivers so i am good to go -
I just witnessed some nice improvements recording with Shadowplay. Lots of good post for Mr Fox and Octiceps here. I'll probably stick with Shadowplay for now.
-
installed L4D2 and it still works nicely though i can't really say the same for titanfall...some of the maps are still showing low fps.

Ryse: Son of Rome PC Version Strips Out Xbox One's Microtransactions - GameSpot
So....
1. uncapped fps but can be set to 30fps if desired.
2. 4K resolution support
3. independent settings for both the render and output resolutions (like in BF4).
4. no microtransactions
5. support for xbox one controllers - trigger rumble support maybe?

Ryse: Son of Rome = purchased!
will see what is like for a 780m when it unlocks next week. -
I had totally forgotten how much I love playing this game...

LOL, that's like laptop reviewers that talk out of both sides of their mouths in saying that a machine is powerful and built really well, then turn right around to whine and moan in the next paragraph about it being too heavy. Reviews are generally worthless to me. There are good bits and pieces of technical data to be harvested from them, but their opinions mean absolutely nothing and I think it can often be foolish to pay attention to their opinions. In fact, on many things, including movies and games, what the reviewers hate I almost always think is awesome.

they seem to be more about their inability to think....but i'll be playing it.
same can be said for ryse - people didn't like it but i tried it and i liked it and hence me getting it for pc cos it's fun and i want to see how it plays on my laptop.Mr. Fox likes this. -
very short but shows the performance of the Alienware 14 (a little poor performance, but ok!)
All the stats in the upper left corner

the stats are a bit hard to read thanks to the artefacting and youtube compression....urgh! i think stats should be displayed as...
- raster so you can set the font to anything other than the default system font.
- put an outline around the font.
- pick a more visible color - purple seems to blur right in so white or yellow will do.
- most importantly: increase the font size because it is hard to read.
this can be done if you're using RTSS with AB or precision X.Mr. Fox and Nhirlathothep like this. -
Yeah, YouTube does a jamb-up job of dramatically reducing video quality and introducing "special effects" that you just can't get anywhere else.

yeah, i wasn't taking the at people though i think it should be a standard thing because the purpose of the videos is to display the performance and playability of a game on our laptops and those stats should be visible enough to read. I also think that you should always show your settings before going into gameplay to give context to the framerates and performance being displayed....or at least have a post listing the settings used.

i wonder if AB will ever allow voltage control on the mobile GPUs like precision x?
-
Precision can't adjust voltage on the vast majority of mobile GPU's either.
-
-
-
With the right vBIOS tweaks, you can control 680M voltage with Precision X as well as 780M, but not with MSI Afterburner. Not sure what MSI did to cripple the voltage control, or why. It is unfortunate that its capabilities are incomplete. It would nice to be able to use it for everything, but the only use I really have for it is video capture.
Speaking of how sucky YouTube compression is, here's a great example I just uploaded. The original is a 1440p m2ts video, with awesome definition, super-smooth 60 FPS and looks fantastic. After YouTube is done chewing on it, it's 'muddy' and choppy.

Probably Precision happens to support the voltage regulators of certain mobile cards while Afterburner doesn't.
-
Does Afterburner support voltage control on any NVIDIA mobile GPUs? I thought perhaps some kook in a position of authority made some kind of nutty executive decision to leave it out on purpose or disable it for mobile GPUs.
-
Not that I know of. It also doesn't support voltage control (or is limited) on some non-reference design desktop cards from other brands, which makes sense since MSI doesn't design cards for Gigabyte, ASUS, etc. But ofc every brand has its own GPU OC utility which guarantees maximum functionality and compatibility.
Not everything is a conspiracy, Mr. Fox.Mr. Fox likes this. -
More than I ever have before, I'm starting to think there is conspiracy in mobile gaming. But, most likely by edict from NVIDIA and AMD. I have tried the other GPU OC utilities, too. MSI Afterburner is not alone in being crippled. NVIDIA Inspector and Precision X are the only ones I know of that offer mobile GPU voltage control. Maybe they have just chosen to disobey orders and do the right thing for the people that want full use of their GPUs, LOL.
-
Like I said, Precision doesn't work on the vast majority of mobile cards either, unlocked vBIOS or otherwise, and flat-out doesn't support AMD GPU's. Only Inspector has the best support. Whether this is down to the voltage regulator designs on various laptop GPU's or how different programs access the NVAPI, I don't know.

I'm not disagreeing or arguing with your comments about the "vast majority" because it is what it is. Supporting overclocking and voltage control on lower-performance mobile GPUs probably isn't something they care to burn a lot of calories on. All I am saying is if Precision X can support voltage control on 680M and 780M and 880M, their is no reason the other GPU OC utilities cannot unless they don't care, or they are honoring requests of NVIDIA to keep it locked on mobile GPUs. EVGA doesn't, to my knowlege, manufacture any MXM cards, so it is interesting that Precision X offers better overclocking support for MXM cards. MSI sells laptops, so maybe they have crippled Afterburner intentionally because they do not want MSI laptop owners adjusting the GPU voltage. Conspiracy or not, I think it is by design rather than a coincidence that Afterburner doesn't offer MXM voltage control for 680M, 780M or 880M.
EVGA has never been a visible supporter of AMD video cards. As far as I know, they only manufacture NVIDIA-powered products so it makes total sense that there is no support for AMD GPUs in Precision X. -
I'd be curious to know what similarities the 680M, 780M, and 880M have on the hardware level that is different from other GTX-level mobile GPU's which don't have software voltage control in OC apps besides Inspector.
-
It might be limited through firmware rather than hardware. I am not competent at hex editing, so I wouldn't be able to recognize the difference even if I were staring directly at the code that needs to be tweaked to unlock it.
-
When I asked Prema about it, it sounded more like a software rather than a hardware/BIOS issue, so who knows.
-
IIRC the 780M and 880M are both downclocked versions of the GTX 680 by spec comparision with both the main clock and the memory clock both slowed. so....
1. GTX 680
2. GTX 880M
3. GTX 780M
the only anomaly is that the 880M has 8gb of VRAM.
EDIT: with the new 344.11 driver I hope that shadowplay doesn't crash the GPU cos I do want to record some sweet Alien: Isolation footage. -
I am using 344.11 drivers and ShadowPlay works better than it ever has before with the new NVENC plug-in now included. I haven't experiencing any crashing from ShadowPlay with current or previous drivers. Are you having problems with ShadowPlay?
Unfortunately, the 880M doesn't behave like a GTX 680 or 780M... the benefit of having 8GB of vRAM is lost due to performance deficit issues that the 880M suffers from, but 680 and 780M do not have. -
i had issues with shadowplay on the previous drivers so hoping that it won't be the case when tuesday rocks by.
-
Steam says that alien: isolation is now available to play.
edit: i recorded a few minutes of the first few minutes of Alien: Isolation with shadowplay I am running on default settings but with vsync off and using adaptive vsync instead. I am seeing temps going up to 75C. I might drop it down to high and see what it is like.
i am still having issues with HWInfo64 showing the extra stats other than the FPS.

kinda annoyed that Ryse: Son of Rome is pre-loaded and i can't play it till Oct 10
-
Here's what I've been waiting for. Not here yet...but soon... soon
Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
kinda bummed that The Evil Within....
a) requires 4gb of VRAM just to play at 1080p
b) by default locked to 30fps
makes me scratch my head since it is using the id tech 5 engine which should see 60fps easily.
it also makes me wonder if a 780m is enough as well if i chose to buy this at release and so far i am not seeing the benefit of doing so. -
-
if anyone gets this game, let us know if it works.
unpacking ryse so should get some footage up soon.
EDIT: the fps isn't a consistent 60fps...boo! even bumping it to 900p on normal settings it still hits between 40-60fps but never is a stable 60fps.
<iframe width='1280' height="720" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/GqW9AQ4iN7U?vq=hd720" frameborder='0' allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
cutscenes are pre-rendered also.
EDIT 2: using the in-game fps cap does not cap the cutscenes - using the adaptive vsync (half refresh rate) does. it seems quite playable at 1080p 30fps on mostly default settings with the adaptive vsync half-refresh rate on.
I think it is reasonable to play this at 30fps, probably cos i have played it on the XBONE, and while 60fps is preferable it's just not consistent enough on a single GPU solution..maybe an Alienware 18 with a beefy CPU and 780M in SLI might get closer but there are no profiles for it yet.
Gameplay capped at 30 with adaptive vsync at half-refresh rate.

The graphics look really good on that, Brother thegh0sts. Although, it seems like the barbarian characters are all cloned.
