i did a fresh install with the latest build (10586) from a USB stick. i have fastboot disabled because it was making my screen flash on and off during boot (probably do to me updating the IMEI firmware), disabled fast start up and driver updates. it has been 3 weeks with no major issues that i was seeing before.

 

What about the black log on screen you got some times? This was fixed with TH2?

 

It's pretty much gone. I haven't seen it for the last few weeks, scratch that, actually i haven't seen it at all. The 359.00 drivers are fine.

Not in Windows 10 first Build 10240 either?

 

I had issues with TPs and early RTM builds like 10240 and early nvidia driver....but that's with a 60hz panel - not with a 120hz panel. So i don't know for sure if build 10586 would work with a 60hz panel, because i don't have one (IIRC I cleared it to t456 to do their testing for EDID corruption), and really it doesn't matter now because neither of us have 60hz panels.

so either the drivers got better OR the OS got more stable OR the panel change tripped something....i don't know it could be any of those things. i am just glad it is working.

i think you should give it a try: take a backup and install 10 but don't redeem your key yet....test it and see if it is stable for at least a week or more.

 

I had the black login screen issues with early RTM build 10240 <medium August> although I used 120hz screen. Are happy with Win7 Ult

 

you won't know for sure if you don't take the risk, who knows you may be lucky and it all works out. you have apps like O&O Shutup 10 to stop driver updates and windows updates. so give it a try because me telling you it works isn't enough and it's more rewarding for you when it does.

 

Don't forget that I previously used Win 8.1. Don't like colored tiles. Only in the bathroom / hallway . No one knows what problems come later when you know M$ is involved. Best to wait.

I really hate when games have a capped framerate. Doing it yourself if you need to is fine, but not having any choice in the matter always sucks.

 

Yeah, the game has an fps lock option but the graphics settings don't seem to stick for me for some reason. The game ain't capped cos it was going up to 120 because of my panel.

I capped ROTTR because it can't hold 60 even on a mix of medium and high settings so I just capped it and maxed it out to the very high preset and the game is smooth. 60 would be nice but knowing how powerful the laptop is I am ok with 30 for both games.

guys has the issue with alienware laptops been fixed where the lcd panel would be busted coz of windows 10 and some drivers

Not if you use EVGA Precision X.... still happens on Alienware and Clevo notebooks with LVDS displays.

 

i don't have precision x or AB installed and it's been working for a good 2 months so far.

@thegh0sts the gamer. When I ordered my Kunshan P870 Killer Edition I got a game code for the game "Rise of the Tomb Raider" free. Is this an ok game? Have not read anything about new games for a long time. Have you tried this?

I like games like Max Payne. Don't quite know what it is called. But do you have any suggestions on games around this style? Have not been an accomplished gamer. More on and off.

 

max payne is a 3rd person shooter. quantum break is pretty much max payne but cranked to 11 and the dial ripped off!

Its a 2 or 3 year old PC game by now but by the same creators as Max Payne. The game is called Alan Wake and is pretty great! Third person as well but less focus on shooting and more on story.

Yeah even a destop 980 has trouble keeping it at 60fps at high settings. Its a pretty heavy game and only a 980TI or Fury X can run it at a stable 60fps at fullHD.

Notes:

1. Game's graphics settings default to the 'Ultra' preset.
2. In-game 30fps cap enabled. Nvidia adaptive vsync (half refresh rate) enabled at the driver level to act as an enforcer if the in-game cap decides to not play nice.
3. FPS overlay is from Dxtory. Other overlays like RTSS will not work with UWP at the moment until MS does their may update which should include the ability to use RTSS.
4. Captured with MS game DVR.

 

Gave Halo Online (the eldorito version) a spin. I'll update this post with the video if I can.

The first update for the game uncludes a new rendering mode simply called upscaling. disable it lets you render at full native resolution but you'll get a big performance hit. with it on you get better performance. with upscaling on i could do 1080p30 on ultra but with it off i can do 1080p30 on a modified medium preset. I don't really notice a huge difference between the two.

 

Overwatch beta runs fine with the 362.00 drivers: practically stable 60fps with max settings.

EDIT: looks like Ultra is not the highest but the second highest with the highest being epic.

 

I haven't posted anything in this thread for ages. Here's one. I love Doom and the latest is definitely awesome. Ran the game and then edit/encoded the video with the 6700K running 4.7GHz the entire time and the max core temp throughout all of that was 76°C. The delid and Liquid Ultra was highly effective.

i only just noticed that the fps counter i was using in RTSS was not polling fast enough and looked in the files to see that it was set to poll at 500ms intervals. so i just set it to 0 and now it goes like crazy.

your fps is all over the place.

 

Yeah, I always disable G-STINK and V-STINK. I haven't taken time to find and kill the game engine FPS limiter yet. Had to do that with the last two Wolfenstien as well. Game is still very smooth and awesome to play as is.

900p is find has the best fps to screen quality for this game. 17-inch displays there's not much of a difference.
