Believe me, I never wanted a glossy screen and was worried after I realized that the 1440 would come with it. Now that I have it, I love it. No reflection issues and the screen quality itself far and away exceeds my old matte screen. If you're not a fan of glossy screens, this is the glossy screen for you![]()
-
I'll take some pics and upload them shortly.
This is my first experience with matte, and I have fallen in love. Zero glare where my glossy monitor shone like a booty. The high-res is beautiful, too. I was worried i'd strain my eyes with the small type, but after bumping up the windows icon & font DPI settings, it's only high-res glory.
Anything specific you want on the screen in the picture to give you an idea of what it's like? -
Just maybe an MSN window and Photoshop open... or something. No wait... I'd like to see how you have your font now on Windows. I'd like to see the Start menu open to check text size.
-
Crricha, I've just seen the pics of the new scullcap that you've put up now on your first post here. It looks like it's dieted too much and is now showing its ribs. I feel like I want to feed it. *waves a Snicker at it*
-
Erm....i have the pictures taken and all, but i'm now clueless how to post them
Sorry guys! Can anywone guide me to a how-to?
-

Nice picture of Cat!
Can you please take a picture from the side with the case closed and the computer on (I want to see the light pipe).
Cheers Meow. Quite cool laptop. -
Thanks for the pictures, I hope you really enjoy the laptop. Would you be able to take a picture of the bottom of the system if it's not too much trouble?
-
The bottom Pic
Light pipe, in light
Light pipe, in dark.
From what I can see, they've toned down the light pipe. It's not the unholy jedi-beam that runs across the lid like in the AlienFx images, but there is NO leakage or seeping of color. While sitting at it, you can see the line of light across the top of the lid, but a side view show things more and better. It only really "lights" the little seam where the black inside screen plastic meets the outer silver chassis. I would have love the uber-pipe, but if this solves the problems that created, whatev panda bears.
Edit: ZOMG entered link wrong, pictures ate screen. fixing! -
You rock Le_Meow!
You may want to resize that image though, it's making the thread wonky. -
Meow, have a look at the pictures I posted on the following thread:

Look at the Lid bleeding photos. Really seems yours is fine. -
Yeah, that light pipe is more a less a failure at what I expected, shown in red on this picture (yes, a random link)
http://www.cheaplaptopcomputersonline.com/wp-content/uploads/image/alienware.jpg
I'm satisfied with mine, but the light saber one in the pic above would have been wicked -
wow you pretty much don't have a light pipe take a look at some of my pics from last FEB. lights off and lights on (ignore the desktop)
-
Cool light bleeding there Taco!
-
well thats what it was suppose to look like. It was suppose to bleed through the plastic.
-
In my opinion, when I noticed the light bleeding through the plastic, I just thought "This looks like a cheap chinese plastic toy". To help, the "bleeding" was not uniform and there were areas of thicker paint that did not let light through. So, I think the bleeding was never their intention... but that's just my opinion. -
Yeah, that's closer to what I was looking forward to.
Ignore the desktop? Sure, since it's lovely blue lights just imprinted my retinasNice man

One can only hope. -
You are right, they did look like that on those photos.
Well... In my opinion, I think it does contribute to the cheap look though. I would rather prefer to have a thin light running around the black/gray plastic transition than light bleeding through the plastic. And it gives it a much more sober/solid/distinct look. I could bet that has something to do with them canceling the pipe lighting initially. -
-
From comparing the pictures from real M15x original light pipes to the "supposed to be" Pre-release pictures, they attempted that uber-pipe, but the bleed through resulted.
Oh well. -
right now im running wow with meh 30% settings on, just because its how i am used to. and my max temp has been 46 C. is that sound good, ok, bad?
-
Check your CPU temps. It's a mainly CPU game.
P.S. I think it's supposed to bleed, however they did do a bad job of it so they realized that and fixed it. I like mine with the thick bleeding pipe because if it's gonna be this thin and tiny little strip that emits so little light that you can only see it in the dark, it may as well not be there. -
You get some right weird people at these events though. This guy is taking pictures of peoples trousers!
http://www.engadget.com/photos/hands-on-with-alienwares-area-51-m15x-and-m17x-laptops-2/498302/
On a more serious note... I would hate uneven bleed-through. If you really wanted a light bar that looks awesome, you could always pick some of this stuff up and do it yourself easily... http://www.glowire.com/
(I was going to run a line of the UV one under the shelves in my room once). -
Maybe he just wants ideas for a new pair of pants? Anyways, I prefer the thin line as opposed to the bleed. I'm going to have to agree with those who say the thin line was probably what was planned to happen in the beginning.

Also, it won't attract flies as much.

UPDATE: Beast laptop, i love it, finally tried just some quick games i had laying around on it and one was Team Fortress 2 which ran gloriously. But saturday playing it for maybe an hour, my computer just shutdown. Sunday i called AW, and I go through taking it apart with a technician, and its the graphics card, must be fried or something. So now a week without games on my brand new 4300$$ laptop
. I think im going to try it one more time and if it gives me a problem before my 30 days is up, its return time i believe. And then i would get a HP HDX.
-
Is it ok to game on the m15x for a whole day with a laptop cooler without it overheating?
-
Oh men............................. how many so far? From people that just received it last week?
If people want facts... here they are. Crricha and Syth and someone else who I've forgotten. Quite good prospects... -
hey crricha how about some pics of the skull cap!
-
first page taco!! first post!
-
sorry missed it! Nice pics how do you like it so far?
-
NO way Crricha!!!! That's just bloody awful! Why oh why are these M15x's so fragile???!!!!
-
post #183.
-
Have you tried it again? Any luck?
-
tried what again?
-
Gaming on it again. Thought you said you were going to give it another try.
-
i havent yet, because i only am using a integrated graphics card which comes with it, because i had to take mine out to check if that was the problem, and the technician said to leave it out to send it back so they can send me a new one. but now im thinking about returning. if i had a problem already in 2 days. im sure theres more to come.
-
i just ordered one of these too due to arrive in 10 days
-
wow crricha, the same thing happened to me. i was playing tf2 one day and then the comp just off on me and the video card stopped working. im guessing it was faulty from the start since i did get a couple bsods relating to it before i changed the video card.
one thing i notice for tf2 is that after the patch the 8800 can only run around 30 something fps when there is alot of action going on. the fps doesnt change even if i put it on the lowest resolution with lowest graphics. still waiting for valve for fix this if they are even planning to.
i doubt theres anything wrong with my graphic card since all the other games i play run normal and i still get a normal score in 3dmark 06 -
Did you guys follow the temps while playing TF2? Maybe that's the reason why...
-
i get 74 - 80. once it hits 80 it cools back to 74 and then it jumps back to 80 in cycles. i did a bit of research and found out that desktops with 8800 GTS are also having this problem. since the 8800 GTS and 8800M GTX are pretty similiar im guessing thats the root of the problem
-
Ok, I see...
Regarding the defective GPUs, I was interested in knowing whether that might be due to overheating failure. How do 3 8800GTX from 3 different new users fail on the 1st week of use? -
yeah this is ****ty. and i wanna return so bad, but i dont wanna pay the restocking fee....such bull****.
Almost a AW owner, just ordered.:D
