It's a really hard decision to get one of these now. Something is telling me, "no". It's not like this forum is full of biased people and only people who have bad things happen. We've seen people who are new to this forum post excitedly about receiving their first M15x, only to then post about the same kind of failures that previous owners have experienced. It's not looking good, is it? Why should I even take the risk?

I agree with you and I completely share your fears. We have heard it all before... Oh, it's people that come here and complain and blah blah blah...
But no, it's not... As Cat says, it's people that are over the moon and back, excited for finally getting that AW (the laptop that is promised to be the best in all of the universe), sharing their excitement here with all of us... just to post that, after a couple of days the lights, the speakers, the touchpad, the keyboard or (worst) the GPU doesn't work.
Can people please open their eyes? -
Why can't AW do something, is what I want to know. Milcs, I'm now considering you my last hope. If your new laptop turns out to be a complete sham (again), I'm scratching the M15x off my "to buy" list, and either going with something else, or holding out for the next AW model (or improved M15x) that should (hopefully) be problem free.
Is it just that a 15.4" can't handle the same power/components that are probably more comfortably handled by a 17"? Is the M15x too small a scale for too big a plan? -
Ahahaha...
For their own sake... I hope they will give me a perfect functional M15x!
Otherwise... if you guys think I'm a pain... just wait!
Well Cat... wait a bit and see. You are waiting for some money anyways (if I'm not wrong) and while you are at it, wait to hear from the Clevo and how this will turn out to be. If I was you, I would make my decision in about one month from now. Right now, it's still too risky and the new people receiving it with problems are a proof of that. -
Is the Clevo going to be 15.4"? I was really after a 15.4", as I found a 17" loses it's novelty after a while when you are always having to find somewhere to perch it and shield it from doors and walls, etc.
Also, my Rock was a Clevo chassis. As much as I loved the Rock, I was after something a bit different, and I'm a sucker for lights and the design of the M15x. -
Even if AW bring out a matt black version of the M15x, the problems most likely won't be fixed... and I don't think the black looks as slick anyway.
-
I agree... The Clevo won't look half as nice as the M15x. But hey... looks can be deceiving. You have to look beyond the exterior to see people's true soul. The same applies to laptops (or everything else really).
Nowadays, people live obcessed with image, with superficiallity, with the flashy package that wraps what really matters.
Anyway... apart from that... the Clevo will be a 15.4'' and it will not be very pretty. But it will be another alternative and maybe it will make AW change something on their M15x. -
I believe i'm in a similar boat to cat, very nervous about going for the m15x, but won over by the looks etc... So ye i'll be waiting the month before i order, partly due to my holiday and partly due to worries about the laptop and not wanting to decide to quickly. Be interesting to see what yours is like milcs, if they have any sense of preservation of life they'll give u a bloody good one.

Working on alienware not charging me the 15% so i can return it. I think if it broke that easy, then something else will break again in the future, and it will not be worth all the times returning it. Anyone want to point me in the direction of a new laptop around 3k or less with similar specs on my AW(dont feel like spending so much after all with alienware)?

Dude... get a dell!!! www.dell.com
Check out the M1730... otherwise, the M1530 is pretty good. Espcially if you're only playing Team Fortress 2, the M1530 should stomp it. -
If you can wait, then there is the new 15" sager coming out soon. Or just get a Dell.
-
see if alienware-james can help you out with the restocking fee.
-
yeah im leaning towards a dell, or the hp hdx, i really like that one.

Just a suggestion to anybody in the UK who is worried about the restocking fee for something they regard as unsatisfactory... here in the UK, we are covered by the Sales of Goods Act and other legislation covering faulty goods. http://www.berr.gov.uk/consumers/fact-sheets/page38311.html
We shouldn't just sit back and accept that we are liable to pay a fee just because somebody has provided us with unsatisfactory goods. This act entitles us to take action and say "no, you didn't fulfill your part of the bargain in the first place". This is how companies sneakily make money out of us, by charging us for the inconvenience it causes them to have the unsatisfactory goods restocked. Why should we accept this when we have done nothing wrong? Just to make you all aware of this act (and other legislation) so that you can fight back with the law. (You can also get a solicitor to advise you, and support you in how to write what's called a "Letter Before Action").
P.S. This is a Civil matter, (not something to report to the police). -

The funny thing is. The restocking fee is probly how much it cost to build the laptop actually, then they just give it to a lucky employee. hahaha
Almost a AW owner, just ordered.:D
