I just find out this link http://www.alienware.com/AlienNetwork/pc-gaming-channel.aspx
Is this another preview of the M17x or it could be the release date?? any idea guys?
-
I never got why everyone is so excited about the m17x. I understand that the m15x is special because it's the first 15 incher with an 8800, but there's a multitude of cheap, ultra-powerful 17 inchers on the market already.
With an Alienware, you know it's not going to beat the Sagers and Clevos in price, and there's nothing newer that Alienware can put in it that isn't in any other computer currently on the market, so why all the hype? -
it's a preview, showing off how good the m17x will be. and i agree, there's no point in buying the m17x when you can get other 17-inchers with the 8800gtx. unless of course you are willing to pay the premium for flashy lights and the smartbay
-
But you're definitely right, the m17x will be entering a much more crowded market. -
-
Well sure, but Smart Bay isn't necessarily only for portable people (DTR people will still find benefit in an extra HDD, though I think the m17x already has dual drives)
Anyway, you're right about BinaryGFX. I'm just trying to point out what's different between the m17x and the others out there (along with looks). -
-
Two more days! I hope its black skullcap for m15x!
-
nah, i don't think so. just a video showing off why you must buy the m15x or m17x
-
I really REALLY want the black m15x with skullcap to come out
-
-
My original choice was black ripley, but only two days after the silver ripley m15x went on sale in North America I caved and ordered it instead
In the end, I think it was probably the better decision as I have my alienfx all in white anyway (that wouldn't look as good with all-black), plus I've now had it for 2.5 months -
-
Yeah, if you're a guy who wants all blue or all red, that'll look sick in black
-
-
Well, I think for some it would, but as I say, I'm not that all-red or all-blue guy so the silver's perfect
-
I think the 29 is the release date of the m17x.
I've never seen Alienware doing something for nothing.
They want to make a buzz.
Although I don't think the black skullcap will be released in the same time.
Will it be released one day ? -

I really doubt that, REALLY...
Montevina isn't out yet (if you assume that they've been holding out for it)
The only other manufacturer offering it (that I've seen) only has a pre-order option - cause they ain't got it yet.
If they weren't waiting for montevina and instead releasing using the soon to be last gen, pm965 chipset -then why take so long to relase?
As was stated earlier in this thread, lots of other manufacturers are currently selling 17 inch -dual 8800m gtx / intel X9000, bluray laptops, some have three internal hdd's so as regards smartbay hdd - not much appeal, 17 inch is a dtr so smartbay batt - not much appeal,
Hence if the m17x is released tomorrow - the only benefits could be (binary gfx and a name) not much of an incentive given the price tag and slating their cs has gotten over the m15x,
Hence why not release it back when m15x was released - would have had some cred for being very powerful and would have had a good run of sales.
I would imagine it'd be a daft idea (from a marketing point of view) to start selling when the markets already flooded with the same spec systems and newer nextgen systems are about to come out.
Hence I think tomorrow will only be a slideshow of what the system will be - no release date info or sudden announcements of its release, and that at best it'l be another month, if not two/three. -
Possible reasons:
- Problems with SLI (no drivers issues with AW..),
- Problems with providers (not enough 8800..),
- Problems with some part (where is the black skullcap ?)
- Problems with heat (8800 SLI is too hot !)
I think AW has a difference with others manufacturers.
It's seems like AW notebooks are more expensive for the same specs..
So why should you buy an AW ?
To have the last CPU one month before everybody ?
Just think at that ^^..
Moreover in France we have less choice (in manufacturers) than you in the US to buy a such notebook. -

This is what I want to say.

Anyone know what 3.00pm est is compared to gmt??
Just been vaguely looking at us gov's time site - est = utc - 5
means its only 8:57 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH....
totally bummed thought it was same as gmt (yeah daft, but hey... gotta hope)
- Currently 5 mins to 3 here..
Won't be on for another 6 hours, grrr... -
No it's 10 right now (i.e. it was 9:57 not 8:57 -- don't forget Daylight savings)
-

Sorry.
Won't be on for another 5 hours, grrr... -
Yeah, it's alright, just wanted to make sure you know so you don't miss it (but it seems like that's unavoidable anyway)
-
What time would it be central time?
-
Central's only an hour off ain't it? so 2
-
For a few people here I hope this helps.
Bangkok = April 30th 03:00
Hong Kong = April 30th 04:00
Seoul = April 30th 05:00
Tokyo = April 30th 05:00
Sydney = April 30th 06:00
London = 20:00
Moscow = 00:00
Paris = 22:00
Warsaw = 22:00 -
under the hood at april 29th? i believe this thing was "supposed" to be released a WHILE ago.
-
-
It's worked to 15:00 EST as far as i'm aware those are the showing times in those cities
-
M17x better have monetineva or it's going to be a seriously stupid product release. A 17" with 8800M GTX is nothing to boast about. Not even worthy of a 'launch' tbh.

I'd like everyone to know that Engadget is set to announce a new product from AW at 3:00PM Est as well.
http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/29/alienware-set-to-debut-aliennetwork-with-special-product-announ/
did somebody say m17x?? -
Those guys at engadget make a good point -- they could very well be announcing the release of that special curved monitor as well.
-
Could be. But, knowing AW, they will probably release both at once. To increase sales...
-
I think the screen could come out today but not the m17x. Look for a release date on the m17x only
-
Let's just wait and see
AW is known for it's surprises.
-
yay!!!! this is gonna be pretty cool i think...
-
But yeah, I'll be watchinGonna go play some COD4 with my m15x beforehand though
-
I dont think its just gonna be them talking. I bet they will atleast show us somethings from the m17x if they dont officially say a release date.

curved monitor, i doubt it. that was a protoype years ahead of its time. that would never be accepted by consumers. its cant be produced cheaply. plus alienware says its "going under the hood on the mx's" however its would be funny if they do annoouce the monitor. place your bets!
-
Didn't they mention at CES that the monitor would be out later this year? Or am I mistaken?
-
Ya pretty sure ur right
-
On the alienware network channel page, notice the curvature on the purple screens in the background and the black curve on the bottom of the video cast that pops up? Interesting...
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Yeah that monitor did look pretty cool but you'd have to keep it kinda hidden wouldn't you? Its only meant for 1st person shooters so you couldn't use "its a fancy t.v" as a explanation - think if i said I was buying one of those my gf would say she's buying me a coffin...
-
Hahha.. I'm feelin' man.
-
Also, it's not *that* technically advanced -- it's just three regular screens sandwiched together. Anyway, all will be answered in 5 minutes. -
so 3 minutes to go.
i wonder how many people are tuning in.
lets hope it doesnt crash their servers
2 minutes now. shall i keep writing. no, ok, ill shut up now.
i bet i wont get through to support now as they will all be watching.
30 seconds. -
Lethal Lottery Notebook Betrayer
there not gonna show the monitor!
