NOT an exciting announcement. They're finally launching a product they unveiled in November. And its not even going to start shipping for a few weeks. Clevo have had a 17" with 8800 OUT since Novemeber, and Dell have had the Sli M1730 out since February.

Knowing how slow the M15x took to get shipping in Europe, im sure the M17x will be the same.

Do they even KNOW how fast the computer industry moves?

Sure, it's the late kid on the block but at least it's here. Lots of people who have been waiting a long time will finally be able to get it.

Wait a min, if it has Montevina ("won't be shipping for a few weeks") - Pre order!!
Then its the 1st 17inch with monte.. announced (though they prob would have said if it had..)

 

Yeah, its here, if someone has been waiting for one, its great news. My point is that they really need to get their act together if they want to stay competitive. The Clevo gaming notebooks with the Montineva platform will start shipping in a couple of months, and I wouldn't be surprised if thats how long it takes European customers to get the M17x. And Dell won't be far behind. The M17x will look like 'old tech' within a couple of months of release. You just can't do that in the computer world, you've got to move quickly

 

Yeah, I don't disagree with you v_c, I'm just saying it's hard to argue about things in the past now. I mean, we can't go back and make them release it sooner. It's out now, so that's just how it is.

Well that 15.4 inch montevina one (on these forums somewhere bout 2 weeks back) had montevina and a release date in about a month, so why couldn't the m17x have monte.. (as he said they won't be shipping for a few weeks)
If it did it wouldn't be the last one in with the old tech, it'd be the first 17 inch lappie to come out advertising montevina (Open to correction!) and the graphics cards are as good as you're gonna get anytime soon.

So it'd be a pretty impressive system

 

Yeah, don't get me wrong, im not trying to be overly negative...More competition is always good, so another 8800M laptop can't be a bad thing.

It's just that they've taken so long to get it to market - it's launching in May, and notebooks with Montineva platform will start shipping in June. Just a missed opportunity

 

They've launched it, But how do you it's not a pre-order, 4 weeks is june and they did say it'd start shipping in acouple of weeks (not like next tuesday or something) Granted this is just speculation, I really hope though that they do release it with montevina granted we'll see in an hour..

yep, the exact opposite of what I said would happen happened. The m17x came out today, and the special screen was only given a release date (I said the other way around).

I don't think I have much of a career in technology analysis

 

it's not the new platform trust me, if it is- I'll pay for you smartbay addon

because it's still a brick and montevina is 40% less mobo wise, and the new gen laptops: you should go for LED LCD, SSD disk (64G-128G), need more get a wireless disk, tivo whatever. 9X gfx- lager battery- all this adds up to a slimmer laptop, less heat ( quite a bit) speed improvements upto 20%, 4-6 hours battery time, with switching to intel gfx, which can be done with a command, rather than a reboot like with AW now

I'd say you'd wan't to be a pretty extreme gamer to buy that sceen,
I don't remember see-ing a price anywhere but it'l prob cost a lot and its solely a gaming screen. Would be pretty cool but I think I'l buy flat screen instead - watching blu-rays and so on.

 

should it not really say EDT.. and not EST....? and when AW says it will ship in a couple of weeks, that's cause it takes them 4 weeks to assemble...

hmmmm. no skull cap. matte. maybe i should not care that much. i like the shiny coating on my m15x. if this is just goona look like a boring old black laptop with lights count me out.

I wasn't aware 9 series were coming out soonish. The only current one I can see worth getting is the 9800gx2, which isn't going in a lappie anytime soon.

 

you have to watch like 20 minutes of "pc gaming is god" for like 20 minutes before you get to the good stuff

 

You don't have to watch *anything*, just skip ahead to the ends of the videos and then within 30 seconds it will move onto the next one. That's how I had the m17x info within 5 minutes of the videos being released

 

As regards standing out - if someone sees you've an alienware and they're into nicking lappies, if you're gonna get robbed, you're gonna get robbed - get insurance, Don't think I've a choice in where I'm living - lots of students and service people wandering in and out - Not worth risking.

 

The computer I'm on doesn't like to play videos sometimes, and it got stuck halfway through this one. I'm guessing they didn't say anything about the black m15x?
